I have an electric bass that I only use for home recording, but I don’t consider myself a bassist. But I’ve admired Mr. Carter for decades and I think just hearing his approach will increase my understanding music in general…after all, he is not only a legend but a master. Nice interview with him by Rick Beato!

Just what can a fan of Ron's say.. other than this is just a wonderful video- the master, and there isn't a day that goes by, where I don't hear Ron playing on some of my favorite recordings... today, at my radiation treatment, I asked the tech to put on the Lee Morgan channel for me. The funny thing, for my first treatment yesterday- the tune was from "The Procrastinator"- "Party Time!"
    Thanks for everything, Ron.

The Steven Spielberg film: The Terminal (starring Tom Hanks) honors the deeply abiding love and unlimited global respect of jazz, which transcends the ordinary human experience. A popular song with the refrain: 'makes... clothes fall off' gives voice to one of the powers of tequila....but this is not unique to tequila because Mr. Ron Carter and his music has similar powers, trust and believe that!!!. Thanks for featuring this masterful and legendary artist.

Ron Carter was my favorite bass player when I started playing electric bass fifty years ago ... but I never got an acoustic upright until just recently. I wish I could take lessons from the master in person, but now, with Mr. Carter's books and these wonderful lessons online, I'm going to see if an old dog can learn new tricks. Thank you, Ron Carter, for being such an inspiration.

@@RonCarterBassist I got my copy of "Building Jazz Bass Lines" about a week ago, and it is great. I am playing every day, and through this book I am learning a lot and really enjoying the experience. Wish I'd done this years ago, but I'm so happy to be able to do it now. The joy of music is that there's always more to learn. And, by the way ... I just got a copy of "Pegleg", and holy smokes, what an incredible album! It's in heavy rotation on my turntable. Thank you, Ron Carter.

Thank you! I am not a sophisticated musician just a r'n'b Bass player, mostly Steely Dan influenced ( Chuck Rainey Rules!) but the first electric guitar I got for $35 at 14 years old I removed the high B & E strings and mimicked a Mingus thing I watched it....on a PBS show back in the day. I liked the first 2 Black Sabbath albums ( they were Electric -Jazz-like to me with Geezer Butler's Bass playing) because I was a rocker but loved Ron Carter, Mingus, and Jamerson's Motown lines. Thank you for your inspiration over the years, Mr.Carter! Thank you.

The Maestro. Part of that great Detroit Cass Tech triumvirate of jazz double bassists, that also included Paul Chambers and Doug Watkins, may they rest in peace.✝️
Together, their collective contributions to music in general and jazz in particular, have helped write the story of the double bass' journey from orchestra pit to New York City night club, and all stops in between. So much music, so much history, so little time... Continued good health, happiness, and productivity my brother. For which, I as one would-be upright bass player, am truly grateful. 💗

My orchestra conductor in college (Luther Henderson Jr) went to Eastman. He talked a lot about seeing you play while he was in Rochester. Any time he tried to get me to really "get it" while we were rehearsing he would always say "gimme that Ron Carter stuff now!"
Thank you for so much great music and sharing these tips with us!

Great basic walking bass lines. I wanna apply that to Fretless.
You can teach Bass yet subtle tone and technique is what makes Ron 1 of the best. Every factor matters in tone whether it’s size of hands , texture of your fingers on string, hand strength ect even effects the way the notes play and sound. Combine that with good taste in music and knowledge of scales plus improv skills.
That’s what’s interesting studying any of the greats. You gotta factor every fine detail of there style and approach.
