A song is a story told with music. If singers really understood that, they would be much more clear in their speech. The trend has been to loose clarity for technique. Technique is great but should never replace the clarity of the words, otherwise why having words in the first place? These days no one have a clue what singers are saying. The words got mashed with the music and, true enough, it sells. But the top singers are absolutely crystal clear. They convey that story or that poem and they do so with a beautiful voice and great technique. One of the reasons singers have no idea what they are singing is because often the lyrics are someone else's. They should spend some time studying the meaning of the lyrics not just singing them.
