I'm more of a video gamer and tencent has a reputation for ruining everything they touch via microtransations. It'd be sad to see them get the rights to dnd and ruin any future BG or similar game

I can't think of any company that would take care of the D&D brand other than Paizo TBH which would be a CRAZY thing to happen, and it won't. Still fun to think about.

I'm bad at expressing myself with a tone of voice, so please don't read this as snarky or crappy in any way. That's not what I'm shooting for...
I *think* I agree with Justin, in that I don't care. But specifically because there's been enough D&D stuff put out over the years, that I already have access to what I need to run D&D for the rest of my life. I usually use so many house rules that I'm never really playing a specific edition of theirs but sort of a frankesteinian mashup of ALL D&D at once. So if Company X came along, and bought up D&D, I'd be alright. Even if the new stuff was bad, I'd just keep doing my thing. When 4e came out I tried it, disliked it, and just kept running my frankenbrew 3.75

Well I don’t think Tencent wanted anything more than video games but I don’t think it would be worse than WotC

Since Wizards of the Coast (D&D & Magic: the Gathering) is the only thing bringing money into the Hasbro coffers it is extremely unlikely that Hasbro will sell D&D to anyone. They need the money D&D brings in to keep afloat. It is absurd to think Hasbro would sell one of the two money making IPs they have. Now I could see them licensing content to Tencent to create mobile games. But flat out sell the entire thing? No way. Without it Hasbro will collapse. Not as fast as if they sold Wizards of the Coast as a whole, but Magic: the Gathering won't cut it by itself in my opinion.
So licensing to gaming companies, yes. Selling off one of the only two IPs that makes Hasbro money? No. Not going to happen. Not even Hasbro would be that stupid. This rumor is dumb and not worth speculating over or even treating it as a legit rumor.

Tencent's stock price is well down at the moment, and they just laid off 500 staff at Riot Games. Do they really have the resource to take on IP as broad as D&D.

Sony. They could license games, produce movies/tv shows which could bolster the tabletop team? Roast me
