Nothing like skidding on snow! Great tip with the chain. Like your area most all our ash tree's are dying or dead in WI. Our oak wilt is doing a number on the red oak as well. So many trees to drop, buck and split and so little time. Stay safe! TCT
Thanks Tony. I could spend each day working like this, and eventually would be able to cut it all before it turns to crap..... but I have a stinking regular job😡 Skidding in winter is the best
New to your channel. Lots if nice wood in your lot. I run an old International 444 with a 450 Norse on it. Wish i had a loader. I do my own saw logs for my bandsaw. Great fun. That little tractor if your does some good work for its size!
watching from Prince Edward Island .. Canada ... love your logging setup .. we dont have many ash trees here on the island but we do have some .. i have cut ash before and had it milled into lobster trap lumber ,, its really great for that and turns nice and dark once its in the water for sometime and lobsters like dark places ... our local Mic Mac bands here on the island have used ash for 1000's of years to make there baskets because the ash is stringy and easy to bend ..
@@robbiemoore7128 PEI is beautiful! We steam Ash to make bows for wooden hay-rakes...(future video teaser) The color is beautiful. Thanks so much Robbie
Great video! Makes me want to go logging! I’ll be out there in a few days. I have a few ash trees not sure if the EAB is in them now I know what to look for I’ll check. Great logging skills, I do things in the woods very similar. 👍👍
Derik , most log buyer’s will take a nice log down to 12” on the small end. 8.6 -9.6-10.6 on up to 16.6 on length . All saw logs need to have 6” of trim . You have some nice ash timber there might as well get all you can out of it. I started out with a kubota tractor and same type winch 27 years ago . Just keep plugging along you can put up a pile of wood. 👍🏻
@ don’t remember the numbers but was 45hp fwd and a Norse winch I bought at a farm auction for $800 bucks . Logged two winters with that setup. Second winter snow just got to deep for the tractor bought a ( well used) JD 440 skidder that next summer.
That's great Pete. I had an old Franklin skidder, but didn't use it enough. A tjack or deere is in my future... my lot is pretty big. If you have any pics of your old setup, send me a couple. dereksstuff24@gmail.com
I hate the EAB! I do love the Ash firewood windfalls,,,, but would like for Ash to not go extinct! You get more work done with that little Ford tractor than most guys I know who have much larger machines! (Myself included 😅)
Thanks Matt! Who knows if it'll go extinct, but most likely. Hopefully the new little trees can hold out long enough for the EAB to just move on or die off. BTW, you certainly do fine! 👍🏻
Beautiful ash trees! Love that winch 👍👍
Thank you Jeremiah!

Thanks Russ! Your outfit is slick! Looking forward to some of your footage! 👍🏻👍🏻
Ash is cash! Get em while they are still good.
That's it Russ! Wish I had more time, it's really a lot of fun. 👍🏻

@peteshields1448 Thanks so much Pete! Of course now I have to ask.... what Kubota and what winch?

I've noticed 'blonding' but I didn't know it was an indication of EAB, thanks!
@southernadirondackoutdoors That's it, Paul. Little bastards... Email me so I can send you and Andy a sticker!
