    A lot of people plan to have a negative split in the marathon. But usually the plan falls apart because it's very hard to do. But you actually pulled it off and did it amazingly well. Congratulations!

    What an awesome video, Jane! So many things to congratulate you on👏superb race execution, the 20 sec PR, coaching your friend to such an amazing finish in her first marathon and of course the well deserved 1K subscribers! Well done, Jane, best of luck now with recovery and then the Boston training cycle! Cheers, Scott🤓

      Thank you so much, Scott, the support is always appreciated! Yes, coaching my friend to her first marathon finish and then having her knock her goal out of the park made the day extra special! Going to enjoy this December downtime for sure.

    Loved your detailed recap! Great for me to hear! 2023 at the CIM will be my first marathon! A bucket list for me here at age 60! I'm currently up to 10 miles at 9:39 split & training the distance! My goal really is just to complete the course without cramping (as you mentioned does happen).
    What mile did you take the salt tablet? Thank you so much!

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's amazing, Christine! I loved it so much! I would recommend at least 2 saltstick chews per hour or 1 of the tablets per hour. But honestly everyone is different...aim to get at least 400-500mg of sodium per hour whether that's through gels, sports drink, saltstick, etc.

    Ran it, too. Truths: Fast field. Over 1,000 runners broke 3 hours. That’s 1:7.5 runners. An extraordinarily high ratio. Hills (and people pushing too hard thereon). Yep. Also, though, people over-striding the downhills. A real quad-killer. Force = Mass x Acceleration. Smaller steps going downhill reduces acceleration caused by gravity. Negative split. 0h yeah. This course is prime for a negative split; the hard stuff is in the first half. Picking up the pace later in the race. Yep. Slightly after mile 15 (which has a hill) and then full on after the bridge in mile 21. I had a 3 minute negative split and got a BQ-12. So 2023’s taken care of. Kudos to us. 👍🏻

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on your 12-minute buffer BQ - that is awesome, Mike!! Looks like we're in agreement on pretty much everything. And 1,000+ breaking 3 hours is nuts! You make a great point about the downhills and being careful not to over stride - I train on much larger hills so I pretty used to it personally, but could be tough for people who aren't ready for it. What's your next big race?

      What a perfect day for a race, right?! Was this your first time at CIM? It was certainly hillier than I was expecting and I even spent a lot of time researching the course ahead of time! Always hard to reel it in the first half. Congrats on your marathon finish - every one is one to celebrate no matter what!

    Congratulations!! you did fantastically! I also ran CIM that day but my time was nothing compared to yours, but I'm very happy with my results. Although I keep thinking about why I couldn't go faster after mile 13, my legs were super tired. Anyway, I will keep running and trying to PR.

      I had a marathon like that a couple years ago...saw my husband at the half mark and told him "this already feels hard!"...just felt off that day from the get-go. The hard part about marathons is that you train so hard and then you have that one shot to put it all together and hope it goes according to plan. Each and every one is a learning experience that's for sure. Thanks for watching and happy running!

Thank you for the all suggestions. Few questions, did you able to find the reasonable hotel accommodations at Sacramento? I am looking for recommendations for next year. Do you believe there are enough aid stations where you dont need to carry your own water?

    • @runningwithjane
      @runningwithjane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Chaminda - such kind words, thank you!!
      Aid stations are every 2 miles. With it not being hot, absolutely there was enough water to stay well hydrated throughout the course. I personally like to have my 8.5-ounce water bottle in my pocket as back-up just in case.
      We stayed at the Holiday Inn downtown, which was one of the most reasonably priced accommodations they partnered with that was close to the capitol. Really great restaurants close by. The hotel itself is in need of a fix-up IMO, but it was clean and had everything we needed. I think you can find more affordable accommodations closer to the start, but I never really looked into that. I would stay downtown again in a heartbeat just to be near the finish line and getting on the buses was a snap.
      Hope you get to run it next year...I'll say it again...it.was.awesome!
