Nope. They helped so they can extend economic alliance. SEATO is the first group to counter communism mainly in east Asia. But it wasn't for Korea, it was built so that Philippines, U.S, Thailand, Britain, and Pakistan can help Vietnam against communism. This was later disassembled though, Philippines and Thailand decided to make an association for just Southeast Asia and so ASEAN was born. And then U.S, and Britain also made their NATO. Those 2 organisations however, is not focused on communism anymore.@@reihalondres9518

The fact is that the Philippines was once one of the wealthiest countries before the turn of the 20th century. We were richer than South Korea at one point. However, Korea really went into rebuilding their nation while the Philippines was unlucky to have had corrupt officials governing the nation and sent the country into chaos and we didn’t flourish like South Korea did. 😢

@@reynaldobellocillo1911 I would say the power the church holds and the power imbalance it creates within society doesn't help either. The lack of good universal education on a country level is concerning. The fact people live off landfills and some people live in cemeteries is disturbing. On top of all of that gangs kill people, people get kidnapped and murdered and all of that is just status quo. It makes it hard to believe it could ever get better... But you always do wish it were different. Perhaps maybe in our lives we will see a different Philippines, one with more opportunity, a better sense of community and a higher level of thinking that keeps the philippines strong and most importantly safe.

"중상층 필리핀인들 막상 같이 알고 지내면 믿어도 됨" - Is that your own POV that only upper-middle-class Filipinos can be trusted? That's a bit disheartening to read. No offense but you seem to be looking down on other Filipinos below your professed "upper-middle-class". I can somewhat understand that you may probably have only met and became friends with these socially classified countrymen of mine, who can go out with you in different social activities since they have the means BUT I must say and believe that MOST Filipinos, regardless of social standing, can be trusted enough to even become a "bestie" for anyone.

They didn’t like me because they called me a mutt as Filipinos are known to be mixed. I admit I am mixed. I’ve got Spanish on my Mother’s side and Japanese on my Father’s side. But that doesn’t make us less Asian.

Now majority of South Koreans forgot about the sacrifices the Philippines done to help. They look down on them cause they're poor. Well not all of them, but just in general.... The new generation don't even know about these events and only the older generations remember, but they're becoming less and less every year. It's only these videos like these that the younger gens are knowing about it, well unless they still have relatives around. If the Philippines economy didn't go down the drain and remained powerful i wonder if the South Koreans would view them the same way that they do today.

We Filipinos are and have contributed so much to the world but sadly, within our own borders, the corruption is waht plundered us back to nothing. It really is such a shame because as a country, we would be so far ahead just like S. Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan. Im happy though that we can be there for our allies when they need us. This is how international relations work helping a nation will certainly monumental their is a reason why Filipinos didn't hold to much grudge with Japan because before Philippines gained their independent the imperial of japan funded the katipunan during colonial times and out off all the asian nations Philippines was the only nation that manage to have diplomatic talks to Japan before being invaded while still under USA colonial rule also other japanese government officials think that they are freeing Philippines in from US Imperialism at the time sad that their soldiers abused their power at the time . Their is also the case of the Brunei royalty helping the descendants of manguindanao sultanate. In short helping others will give you lots of friends in the international scene .

@miguelgalang6450 It is true that when the invasion started literally hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, which indicates the readiness of US forces and allies, McArthur's command was forced back. It's like comparing this to the blitzkrieg on ill-prepared countries. Also, McArthur didn't surrender; Gen. Wainwright did. After years of Filipino guerrilla warfare and AFTER being better trained and equipped, the US and Filipino troops and Filipino guerrilla groups forced the surrender of the Japanese army of 262,000. When McArthur returned to liberate the Philippines, the Filipino guerrillas had already retaken 36 of the 48 provinces held by the Japanese. "So taken was he by the resilience and strength of the native guerrilla forces against the Japanese. The U.S. officially recognized 277 guerrilla units and 260,715 individual fighters, mostly those associated with the Philippine Commonwealth" (source War History Online). So, maybe laughing at the quote is not deserved.

Samsung Electronics' exports from Vietnam last year amounted to $65 billion. Many FDI companies created jobs in Vietnam and hired Vietnamese people. Also, the corporate tax they pay to the Vietnamese government is a source of national projects for the Vietnamese government. It DID not happen like this, that is why you didn't realize it. This is an incredible amount of propaganda, Joseph Gobbles would be proud! This is so much hype and nonsense, it is as if you just made up the story as there are so many holes in it it's pathetic. In all of the Korean war the stats are this for Philippines:
A total of 7,420 Filipino officers and men served in Korea. They suffered 116 killed in action, 299 wounded and 57 missing (41 repatriated during POW exchanges) for the ENTIRE WAR! The last of the Philippine troops left Korea on 13 May 1955. I'm a US military veteran and a historian, this is REALLY a bunch of propaganda leaving our MANY things. TO even insinuate that 900 took on 40,000 is complete nonsense. You left out Turkey, USA (PH was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division), so many things here, but people will just give praises as they think what you put is as facts for face value. Yes, Philippines helped as did other countries, but this is really like saying I took on 400 men on my own and it's just misrepresents history. There are VERY VERY few battles in history where you have situations where it is 47 to 1, and that is Finland VS Russia invasion in WWII and Greece @ Marathon. Trust me, you clash 900 vs 40,000 with a sounding defeat, and you will have more movies made than you can think of but again, this is missing out a LOT of facts. So, Korea sets up a monument to honor their souls and pays tribute every year, and invites not only veterans and their families but also veterans to Korea to thank them. As Koreans, many Koreans want to express their gratitude to the countries that participated in the Korean War. However, attention seems to be focused only on a few specific countries. This is especially true in the United States and Turkey. The United States gave Korea the most support and sacrifice, and Turkey also shed countless sacrifices for Korea. Korean people even like Turkey, calling it a brother country. However, there doesn't seem to be much appreciation for the Philippines and Thailand. I wish more Koreans knew that we have many brothers who shed their blood for us, not just in Turkey.
