    Great episode! Many people don’t realize that much of the poverty and suffering in Central America was caused by American imperialism where the American ruling class has systematically destroyed Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador for over a century, exploiting the natural resources, exploiting the labour of the working class, and backing governments that bankrupted the public treasury. It’s a vicious cycle that needs new solutions and hopefully Bitcoin can provide a new way forward for people. Also the gangs in El Salvador originated in Los Angeles and then spread back to El Salvador.
    Here is another decent perspective on El Salvador - th-cam.com/video/0jxvpoRgv8g/w-d-xo.html

    I speak as someone who has only seen a few dozen videos on this channel and will be staying around. Might it be worth mentioning the date each show was recorded in the notes? Sometimes you talk about "when this show goes out", and I always wonder. Much love.

    • @ggrthemostgodless8713
      @ggrthemostgodless8713 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forget it man... I've said it many times, they never include the date on any of them...
      I can only imagine it must be very difficult to do, because in general these guys do try to please the audience. So if they haven't done it, it must be some harder technical thing, or maybe their intention is to make them "timeless"?? Who knows, but most of the shows are great.

    PLEASE, PLEASE… It’s SO HARD to hear all this and have it ‘register’ when Bitcoin’s price is plummeting. It’s making the ‘sale’ of the idea of Bitcoin as a future salvation an extremely difficult sale. Please address a counter point to this issue - ON EVERY PODCAST. I need help convincing my friends not only to buy BTC, but trying to convince them I’m not crazy for buying BTC myself.

    • @CorwinYoutube
      @CorwinYoutube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "When in doubt, zoom out". Bonds, equities, alt-coins, BTC all plummeting given the macro environment. Learn the fundamentals of MMT (Modern Mentary Theory) , it's history and where it takes us, then learn BTC. Once you know the fundamentals you will understand. Look long term... :-)

    • @adriantrevino7525
      @adriantrevino7525 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price of Bitcoin does not mean anything in the short term and has nothing to do with the ethos behind it. The price is driven by investors and does not reflect the fundamentals of bitcoin.

    • @sandymilne224
      @sandymilne224 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @S Gary That should be fairly evident. I’m telling all my friends to buy Bitcoin and they all say, “Why, it’s dropped from $68k to $30k. Why the hell would I buy it?” It’s not easy to convince them it’s going up anytime soon.

    • @Yetti5521
      @Yetti5521 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sandymilne224 Short term volatility is the price you pay for the long term lessons and financial returns Bitcoin gives you. Maybe your friends aren’t ready to follow you down the Bitcoin rabbit hole yet, but they’ll be interested when the price starts to go up again.

    Exactly... people all over the world have same or very similar hopes and dreams, that is why I hate it when they say "the American dream", I mean, WTF is that all about. Do they really think all other peoples don't want THAT same thing?? It may be that they just repeat what they hear from childhood, like lifting that finger at sporting events saying "America" is number one, and they haven't ever been outside the country!!

    Bitcoin in a way is like “Gort” the humanoid robot in the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.

    Read The Price of Tomorrow and agree with Jeffs thesis about possible outcomes of the current monetary system. To put it briefly the only viable option for the Central Banks / Governments is to monetize the debt since the other choices are unfavourable to administration. Longterm the game theory at play says Bitcoin wins, unless the underlying technology is corrupted (which seems unlikely).

    It's ironic that a Sovereign Individual would be anti abortion. My body my business. Just as an anti vac passport mandate type would be okay with the state deciding whether one begins a family or not. Sounds compassionate couched as Pro Life but the reality is otherwise.

    Good points, but let me ask:
    a) Who is in "the liferaft"? (Who is everyone?) b) What is "the liferaft"? (the economy? human society? the world?)
    Bitcoin is better money, a better tool, but if the liferaft is the world and "the sailors" are all sentient beings, then bitcoin ain't important.
    I do love bitcoin, but a fundamental change in human nature is needed - and that ain't gonna happen until the liferaft becomes unlivable for us. The world itself (the liferaft itself) will still be around, for the next ecological experiment... We humans, including the big hodlers (M. Saylor, etc.), need to adopt "enough is enough" behavior, in many many ways. Is that too much to ask of human nature? Unfortunately, yes.

      Bitcoin is the life raft.

    • @nymzoindian7250
      @nymzoindian7250 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The liferaft to me is the bitcoin consciousness (ie the collective idea of it and the repercussions on human incentives by its existence).
      You have the right view of what is needed and I can say the answer is in bitcoin alone but you have to do the work to reach clarity (imo). Cannot stress enough the importance of understanding all the incentives Bitcoin provides for. Any other idea we may have that is not economic or not based in truth and technology (ie some government/narrative/cooperative scheme) will not work because it’s not incorruptible therefore not sustainable or agreeable to all humans.
      Keep looking at the bitcoin idea man, imagine what it can be and what you/we can do with it. See if you have an alternative, it’s a good exercise. I have hope/bitcoin :)

    • @rwess

      @@gdcolwell Bitcoin is in the liferaft, one of the positive actors.
      Twitter is in the liferaft too. Positive, negative, or inconsequential? (I don't use it, so I don't know...)
      Elon and his deadweight dogecoin is in the raft too...

    The podcast name should've stayed What Bitcoin Did, adding "With Peter McCormack" just unnecessarily lengthens the name and just makes it a lot less exciting. its obviously by you, there is no one else with such a title but by doing this you are opening the door for others to do a "What Bitcoin Did with $Variable $Name" , old name is good, we all know who you are peter, you dont need to add that. infact, copyright that name, scale your show with shorter more catchy stuff not longer. Love the show, great guests, just a note.
