- I revisit the Worcestershire town of Droitwich Spa - this time to walk the entire length of the Droitwich Barge Canal, from the town centre to where it joins the River Severn.
Here is the link to the video where I visit where the Droitwich Junction Canal meets the Worcester & Birmingham canal at Hanbury:

Thank you! You too!
Nice vlog, amazing footage, the scenery is beautiful! Have a wonderful day
Was definitely worth the wait Paul 💕💓💖 Such great views in Worcestershire. 🥰 The canal was amazing. You are so knowledgeable and such a wonderful tour guide. 🤩Amazing that Salt and Coal brought all that about. Just amazing. So educational and enjoyable. Thank you so much for sharing 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you Don! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, this canal is a gem, and, maybe I shouldn't say this, but, I feel, it is much better than more well known and popular canals. Thanka again, and thank you for supporting my channel. God Bless, Paul.
Salwarpe was beautiful, great canal information & a lovely walk. Thank you.
Thank you faith. Yes, I had seen Salwarpe from other TH-camrs, including Roy's (below). I was certainly not dissapointed - and that huge brick canal bridge! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul.
Yet another fantastic vlog l realy enjoyed your take on the history of the canals creators 😎😎😎
Thank you John! Yes, I think that this was my sort of canal - beautiful countryside, and a quiet towpath, which made filming and photography a joy. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul.
Hello Paul - greetings from Poland
Fantastic! What a wonderful walk along the Barge Canal to the River Severn. Your camera work, excellent commentary and still photographs made the walk even better.
Very interesting historical facts about the Barge and Junction Canals. Fascinating information about the Wych Barges too.
I liked Vines Park - it's quite big and the semaphore signals brought smile to my face. Love them.
What a beautiful village Salwarfe is. The walk from here down to the Severn was magnificent. Very green, peaceful and quiet.
All in all, a wonderful experience, brilliant video, great music and you of course. Westcountry Wanderings at its very best!
Thank you so much Michael! That's a lovely comment - you are too kind! Yes, I really enjoyed this one - my sort of canal, I feel. Beautiful countryside, and quiet towpaths. Yes, Vines Park is a delight - there is another lovely park (The Lido) in Droitwich which you may remember from my previous video. Thanks again, have a brilliant weekend, take care, Paul.
Thank you for putting in so much effort in this! Really appreciate it! Enjoyed it 100%
That's very kind of you! Thank you so much 🙂 Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul 👍
Loved this video Paul! Excellent information and photography and it brings back many happy memories of family canal boat and narrow boat holidays on the Mon and Brec canal and the Shropshire Union canal. I did not really appreciate canals so much as a teenager but they are wonderfully relaxing and calm places with so much history!
Oh, wow! I have never been on a narrow boat. I have heard great things about the Shropshire Union and Mon and Brec canals too. Like you, although I lived close to a canal, when I was younger I didn't take much notice of it. It is only as I have gotten older that I now appreciate the quiet, the peace, the beauty and nature. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🙂 Cheers Paul
Paul you work so hard on research for your productions, your filming is first class, you deserve success. Nearly a thousand subscribers, another landmark, well done. Ron
Thank you so much Ron! That's a lovely comment 🙂👍 Thank you for your support too in getting to where I am now. Take care, Paul
Great tour of the canal Paul! I enjoyed seeing the locks and that graffiti was pretty amazing! So neat seeing the narrowboats traveling through the canals. 😊
Thank you Donna! Glad you enjoyed the canal walk. Yes, as I said in the video I am not generally a fan of graffiti but this showed great talent. It is a really picturesque area. Thanks for watching. Take care, Paul 👍🙂
Thank you Paul. I learned new facts, as usual. Salty Droitwich. Pretty Salwarpe. I liked the peaceful canal walking and bird song. Great photos. I also liked the guitar music plus video and tripod shots from the bridge (about 24 minutes in) :)
Thank you Cathy! Glad you enjoyed the video and the music. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul 👍🙂
Thank you Paul. I lived in Worcester for a few years and missed all this practically on my doorstep, you have inspired me to go and visit. I look forward to you Kennet and Avon video as I live very close to Bradford on Avon and the Cane Hill flight is not far either. I enjoy walking along the canals. Take care and stay safe. 😊😊😊
Thank you for a lovely comment! I will be passing through Worcester soon (ish) because as well as doing canal videos, I am also walking the entire length of the River Severn (the Severn Way). I started on Mt. Plymlimon in Wales a couple of months ago, and I have now made it to Shrewsbury. I love Bradford on Avon (but not the traffic!) - I have been a few times, but not for Westcountry Wanderings yet - hopefully soon. I will be coming on the train - an easy train ride from where I live in Gloucestershire. I also hope to cover the famous Caen Hill flight in a seperate video too. Thanks again, take care, Paul.
Hi Paul nice video i've been that way a few times it's a lovely area for a walk 👌
Thank you Roy! Yes, I remember your videos from the area - one of the reasons I chose it to be honest with you, because it looked so delightful and quiet. I wasn't dissapointed! Lovely place. Hope you have a great weekend. Take care, Paul.
Pass the signs to Droitwich on the M5 traveling to Devon and back so many times over the years, but never stopped off to see the Droitwich Barge Canal. So thanks for the insight of your video.
Thank you Ted! So many beautiful, historic and interesting places in Worcestershire. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 Cheers Paul
Hi Paul - Lovely canal video. I liked the pretty village of Salwarpe and the walk along the canal. Take care x
Thank you Debbie! Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, canals are special, relaxing places. Salwarpe village was like going back in time. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍 Cheers Paul 🙂
LOVLY WALK PAUL. THANK YOU, REGARDS R.
Thank you Richard for watching! Thanks for commenting too - much appreciated. Take care, Paul.
What a lovely location, Paul. My only knowledge of droitwich is the location of the long wave BBC transmitter!
Thank you Michael - yes, the transmitter was sited near Droitwich precisely because of the conductive effects of salt on the underlying rock bed. It is a couple of miles north of Droitwich near the village of Wychbold (and its huge garden centre!). The Long Wave one, which still uses valves, could be shut down soon because of lack of spare parts and huge energy running costs, because comparativly few listen on LW nowadays. I would love to have a tour of the transmitter hall there! Droitwich Spa is an often overlooked town, but it is well worth a visit, especially for its parks. Take care, Paul.
Really great video Paul, really interesting and enjoyable to watch. Regards David
Thank you David! Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, this is rapidly becoming a favourite canal of mine. It has so much character, the towpath is quiet, and it passes through some beautiful countryside. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Take care, Paul.
Hi Paul, very enjoyable vlog as usual. I’m surprised it was so quiet. I looked at it as a option for my next weekend hire in the spring. It appealed to me as you can do a mini ring using the river Severn, Droitwich barge canal and the Worcester and Birmingham canal
Hi Paul - yes, this canal is a bit of a conundrum, as there was so much pressure and goodwill to get it reopened (which happened in 2011) yet, the boating community don't like using it. Another commentator on the comments said the reason was tight locks and bends. However, the Stratford Canal has narrower locks, and that is very popular, - so it still seems a bit of a mystery! It looks lovely and quiet to me, which surely must be a good thing! Happy boating. Thanks again, Paul 🙂👍
Great content! Much enjoyed. I think watching the Minimal List TH-cam channel might give you some clues as to why there isn’t much river traffic.
Yes I did see the much missed excellent TH-camrs Jono (Journeys with Jono) and The Narrowboat Experience a while ago when they did a collab on this canal but it seems to have much less reeds than then. I will check out The Minimal List - not aware of that YT channel. Thank you for your kind comments and for watching my little video. Cheers! Paul.
Good video
Thank you Naomi! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul.
Hi Paul, I see someone in another comment pointed to the Minimal List channel in relation to why the canal isn't more popular with boaters, so I guess you have the answer, but essentially there just aren't any services or enough moorings for boaters, so it's more of a thoroughfare to get somewhere else... pity as it looks a beautiful spot!...
Hi Marcel, I didn't know that. I couldn't find Minimal List's video about the Droitwich Barge Canal. It seems a shame that a canal that is so 'new' (reopened - just 11 years ago) has so few mooring points, particularly as there are such excellent marinas in Droitwich. Thanks for the additional information, which is really uesful. Wonder if CRT are aware, and working on a plan to change this. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul.
nice video👍
Thank you!
