The show he's referencing is called "Just a Minute" where panelists have to attempt to speak for a minute without repetition, hesitation, or deviation. If someone slips up you can buzz in, gain a point, and make your attempt to be speaking when the minute ends. One of the crew members "Rory" probably used it as a simile of what he's supposed to do so they can shoot enough jibberish to fast forward through in the final cut.

The pear bit was probably inspired by the list in the New Adventures Virgin Publishing novel Human Nature that Human Nature & Family of Blood were based on.
