Hi James, great informative video. We are very lucky to have the most northern flock of Herdwicks in the uk. We love em like yourself and have a flock of 150.
Thanks for the video! I love to hear him talk on all your videos. The input what is costing the farmer money. I’m sure I’m getting talked about too by now. My pastures where my sheep are can be over 5 feet tall with forbes. The pasture where my cattle is up or over 10 feet tall too. It’s amazing how much sheep can trample. My sheep been watching my goat because they are starting to stand on their back feet or put their front feet on each other to get the higher leaves. 😂
Beatrix Potter bought lots of farms with her publishing royalties. She did this to preserve them from development and modernisation. She left them to The National Trust with lots of covenants to keep the Herdwick sheep on the farms.
I read an article yesterday about a bunch of uber uber rich guys buying 10,000 acre+ ranches in Montana and Texas for second , third homes. One guy who sold after a few years when he realized the “Out West” lifestyle was his dream, but not his family’s dream said “It’s very very difficult to make money raising cattle”. I’ve been watching your channel for several years so I just thought “Oh, is it?” Now, he never bought the property to make money, but I suppose he never realized how much you could spend raising livestock if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Good to see that you have come across the " Pond " to the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. Is it just you Greg or has Judy come with you ? I have heard James o the radio and occasionally on TV. Are you going to make it up to Scotland the home of many world famous cattle breeds ? Enjoy your time here.
Mum let me in on an adult conspiracy when I was old enough to question the existence of Santa. She told me that now that I knew the truth my duty was not to share the knowledge with my sister's so that I would not spoil their excitement that they would learn when they were ready. It's one thing to preserve the magic of childhood mysteries like Santa and the tooth fairy so I am glad that you and Mr. Rebanks don't have to keep silent about the benefits of your methods. I just hope that those people who are stuck with the idea that they need to follow expensive protocols learn how to partnership with their animals. It's sad that they won't give up their blinders .makes me wonder if they are flat earthers waiting for Santa to gift them with funds to buy them out of their failure. I hope they learn what mother nature could gift them if they worked with her instead of against her . It makes me wonder why people are in such deep denial about the benefits of sheep and cattle for the regeneration of depleted soil. do those people know the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. I hope you have more episodes with the Rebanks family I have enjoyed watching the ones you have posted so far . 💜🌟💜🍀👍👍👍🍀🖖🖖🖖🍀💜🌟💜 😘💕💞💕🎉👏🥇 🙋🏼♀️

Beatrix Potter [PETER RABBIT books ] is credited with helping to save the Herdwick breed ''back in the day''....lots of heritage there.

Scotland is on our bucket list for places to visit in the future
I love that they kind of moult their wool. This should seriously be pushed as a benefit! (no shear)
Good stuff 👍
Can hear him trying to hold back the dialect, he did let yow (ewe) slip through. @2:37
Hi Greg! Quick question!!! With your method of grazing could it be done with horses?
Yes, you will have the healthiest horses in the county!
also, he's seeding his pasture as well. using the sheep in the cycle of planting those seed through their gut.
Right on
I wish they talked about that old stone wall.. probably built by the vikings 😅
When the sheep are on the mountain, does he just use his cows to manage his pasture growth? Thanks!
Not all the sheep go to the mountain
Greg, is he dealing with a similar drought situation as the rest of the UK, or has the Lake District received more rain?
Plenty of rain!
Just looked at a weather map the lakes appear to have had 85% to 100% of normal rainfall ( average 140in) most of Southern UK about 56% of normal.
We have had good rain all summer
