I'm from America I know for a fact that the UK gets tornadoes. We call them cold-core tornadoes. They are almost like the ones we get off the coast of Oregon or Washington State. They are usually short-lived and relatively weak.
This looks like the "New Years Hurricane" of '92 that slammed the west coast of Norway. It was THE storm that put advanced weather warning systems in place for us for the country, as is remembered by many. 115-140 mph gusts
A few years ago one smashed our neighbours lovely big greenhouse to bits, looked like it had been bombed and I'm still finding shards of glass across a huge area. I'm on the border with Devon.
Had some quite heavy rain in St Ives today. We are used to the storms hitting us head on here on the SW coast of Cornwall. Not venturing out during the next 24 hours, even though we are not expecting it as bad this time.

@@Carolb66 that's why it's important to have your safe room with your supplies in it ready to go into at a moments notice. The wind will pick up hard and fast. Follow the MET directives for your area. It's going to be scary for a bit, but you will survive this storm, without a doubt. You absolutely will be ok. Get your pillows and blankets into your safe room, a mattress if you can manage it but blankets will do. Stay away from chimneys. And don't forget some comfort snacks. Steady on. You've got this, ok?
I'm here on the south west coast of Ireland. Have to dismantle the trampoline. Winds are going to increase significantly in three hours. It's calm now before the monster hits land.
Stay inside, away from chimney areas and windows and during worst part go into bathroom or closets. Cover up with pillows and blankets. No need to panic, just be prepared.
Great advice! I live in the Irish midlands in county Roscommon and bracing myself for this event as I see the storm would rampage through the midlands! Stay safe everyone!

@@biggstavros5876 they say the bad wind will be here during the night. Ah I'm in my nest and listening to the rain pelt off the windows and roof. Said earlier on the news that there will be a risk of a tornado starting from the south of the UK. Please be safe
We live in a van and are in central Scotland at the mo. Very excited to be battered by winds with a 360-degree view of mountains. We're staying away from trees but will embrace the winds with open arms (and be grateful to be off grid cos we make our own electricity) Enjoy X 💨💦🌪️
Yes! I'm in Cork. It's Status Red which is the start of Hurricane status. Get supplies in now. Expect electrical outages. Stay indoors till it is well over.
Certainly not a night to be in the Irish Sea or the North Sea. I hope that all at sea and on land remain safe, ships should run for harbour and batten down the hatches.
When you get where you are going, please stay there for the duration of the storm. Bring your medications and a warm change of clothes, and hardy shoes. It's good to be prepared and not needed than to need and not have. Blessings to you, and thank you for being a carer.
It's unlikely to rival the boxing day storm of 1998 here in the central lowlands of Scotland. Having ran a weather station for 40 years in the area, that one stands out as being the strongest storm by far. However it could rival the second stronges of the last 40 years, from early January 2012. It looks fairly devastating for the west coast of Eire though, if it continues too deepen longer than expected (unlikely). It could funnel it's winds through the central belt - much like the "Glasgow Hurricane" in January 1968 - which was devastating.

@JustinWilson-cn8tz yea! Thanks! The Americans have a different way of categorizing storms. We always hear it as storm force 8, 10,12 etc. they just say 120 miles an hour, Category 2. I think for each Ocean they should standardise it. In fact they should do it with temperature as well, Celsius against Farenheight. It all gets very confusing. Just use one for both, then we are all on the same page. No room for error! Cheers! Stay safe.

What’s it made of? Homes in the UK don’t tend to blow away like they do in the US because they’re built of brick and stone. Think how many of our houses are many hundreds of years old, and how many storms they have lived through. Might lose some roof tiles, or windows broken by stuff flying through the air. Biggest danger is falling trees.
