@@clickghost2151 Well jjk did it as well but spy x family is more the other way around as its a slice of life comedy with a few serious moments sprinkled in.
that’s what i’m saying 😭 fujimoto is truly a mastermind. i believe he wanted to get chainsaw man serialized in shonen jump, so he built up a basic shonen structure of characters, motivation, etc. And then once it was serialized with shonen jump, he just went buck wild with his imagination and let everything hit the fan.
I think one thing Charlie missed is that while the action is absolutely amazing. So is some of the more downtime/chill scenes. Such as the scenes of Aki going through his morning routine. Just characters doing normal everyday shit, but it looks so incredibly smooth and almost real in some scenes. It truly brings forth an atmosphere that I’ve never experienced from a show before.
If anyone thought that Season 1 would be the peak, just wait for the absolute brain explosion that comes with the later plot points. Chainsaw Man has good animation, and good action, and in the beginning it has some good story as well. The later story tho is genuinely so amazing that having to wait for it is probably the biggest blue ball I'll ever experience.
The first season is the set up and the first twist. The set up being showing you the world and all the characters. Spoilers below The twist being, that no one is safe. Anyone can die, to the point that when a devil says that aki will die you believe it. With that first twist and the foundations all being there, the series goes buck fucking wild. It has a similar progression to attack on titan, it starts out simple and you think its just gonna be a silly goofy action series where everyone dies, but nothing serious happens. Then you get half way through and suddenly shit gets fucking real and fast.
I agree with everything but I'd also like to give some love to the unique ending songs and animation for each episode. It got funky and experimental 10/10.
Their attack on titan animation has been really bad, but I'm assuming that's because of a super tight deadline. It seems like the studio has plenty of talent to do better, if given a realistic timeline
Not sure if you purposefully exclude mentioning OP and ED's but I think it's a really cool point that each episode has a unique ending song and animation.
Yep it's unique, the only other time I remember that happening was with HOTD, and it was a long time ago... super cool to see that... the OP was good, but I wouldn't say it's one of the best I've seen...
Eh, i actually thought that the eds were detrimental, the budget spent there could probably have been used elsewhere, and with each ED being unique, it didn't really give us much time to warm up to each of them, its interesting what they tried to do but i feel that too much of a good thing is bad. Would've definitely prefered that there be only about 4 eds and maybe two ops
The hype wasn't actually for the anime mostly, it was for the announcement of Part 2 for the manga. The first arc of Chainsaw man is actually really boring compared with later arcs. I suggest you read International assassins arc or Gun devil arc. Its seriously 100x better than what's going on now.
I'm glad you liked it. Everyone would talk about the action scenes, but the laid back and silent moments were my favorite part of CSM, you don't see scenes with such detail in most animes.
@@felixowen2693 we'll. Opinions right? Ghibli was very traditional ish? Csm animation on the other hand, modern as it can possibly be. The silent scenes in question ofc
@@learnandearn4127 I think the scenes are suppose to be boring and refer to typical life in order to made the violent scenes feel more needed and satisfying.
The first season is exactly like Charlie said, an appetizer. Next season is gonna blow everyone away. Better action, better arcs, character development and more. The arc that was teased at the end of the last episode was when I started to see why people love Chainsaw Man so much
If it’s the same CGI still frames, then nope… Understand the better arcs, character developments. Eventhough it has the worst character introduction too lol
this series is pretty hardcore if u know japans super strict censor laws....the fact they have guns is already wtf mom, were used to seeing guns in in the west nothing serious even smoking is normalized here. but in japan..its crazy how they act them in anime (imo im not japanese so its normal for em) i remember a black bar on jotaros face in JOJO part 3 where he was smoking back in the day, so to see Aki pull one out like its nothing in full glory was awesome. This is only the start so I can see why u think its pure whack n goofy (its 100% true ngl) legit right after season 1 ends it turns up imo the next fight will be amazing! and all the sweet character development in a whacky goofy chainsawman way is yet to be animated! I think season 2 will legit turn everyone even none anime fans like aot. im prolly overhyping it who knows but I cant wait to see it animated!
As a manga reader without saying spoiler I can say the manga just keeps getting more nuanced and engaging lore wise, action wise, and from a character development standpoint. Mappa is very busy so if they are planning to be primary animators for Season 2 it's likely going to be a wait of about a year unless they have backlogged future content (animating further into the manga source material but need to fix up/polish). Half year waits to 1 year are standard for seasonal animes like this unless there are production or logistical issues. It could take longer tbh cause the level of attention they pour into the episodes is very demanding on a studio no matter the size.
Agreed. I figured theyd likely end where they did I assumed maybe a movie could cover the next small arc and have a season to finish it up as the manga still isn't done yet but I think a movie and another season seem perfect for how it's heading
One thing he didn’t mention that I loved was how each episode had a different ED. It’s not the first anime to do that (OreImo comes to mind, of all things) but that they were even able to do that in the first place makes me really happy, especially since every single piece of music slaps in its own way. Given my personal tastes, the metal one from episode…3, I think(?) hits the hardest, though the ZUTOMAYO track that came before is also excellent, as they’re one of my favorite artists.
honestly my favourite is frome episode 7, its the most midwest emo-esk, dreampop-esk that was there. but the metal one from episode 3 is really good, (personally dislike metal) i like how it goes from metal to a bit of breakcore to a really chill atmosphere of a song.
The plot has just barely started to unfold, it absolutely is unique, its just a bit of a slow burning narrative at first because of how much action there is and how many new characters are introduced. Once the second cour and the second season releases the narrative starts to drop its pants and everything starts to reveal itself.
Can you tell me what you find unique about the plot? Im kind of bored of these new anime all following same pattern with main protagonist joining with some group with similar skills (this, jujutsu kaisen, demon slayer).
@@majkatrojedjece6585 that’s fair and I feel the beginning is very simple and slow. The interesting parts of the plot are major spoilers for later seasons
@@majkatrojedjece6585 You're literally only watching things from the same genre, and wondering why they're all the same. There's like 20+ new anime that come out every season, and you're picking a handful of them that are all the same genre
The writing is my favorite part from the author of Chainsaw Man, unfortunately the first season only covers the beginning and sets up for the future Before the anime came out people were excited, expecting 24 episodes to cover more of the story but unfortunately we only got 12 episodes. The story just started to pick up, hopefully we'll get a second season sooner.
True, Charlie said that main reason why csm is hyped is action and i understand why some people would think that, especially in this first season, but for me, it was always about story and characters, and it all starts with Reze next season, thats gonna be great.
@@EDUADOELRIKO yeah after the katana man arc its just non stop wtf in the best way! character betrayal character reveals character deaths....all are amazing next season is gonna make people fans cant wait for bomb devil!!!!!
The story only gets better, it’s up to the studio to give it the animation that it deserves. I hope Mappa does Season 2 with the same passion as season 1
@@jackjohn4156 the bland color palette is fine. Fujimoto actually colors his works pretty similarly aside from the cover. It also fits the type of story that it's trying to portray. The CGI had it's good and bad moments. Whenever they'd actually use the camera properly and utilize the CGI in a way that 2D can't it's actually pretty well done. It's when the tempo slows down where they should've swapped back to 2D or rotoscoping cuz some scenes are just jarring.
@@psy_99 My problem with color palette, they always use it. Like it’s as if they don’t have any other. And yes that’s my problem with CGI, still frames of CGI, why? That’s bad insert. They need to understand still frames need to be 2D to look good.
As a non manga reader, I seriously cannot wait. Anyone got an idea of when season two's coming out? *Spoilers below for episode 8 and above* Like, I was so surprised when Makima and half the gang just got killed. And when Makima came back it made me think she was like the Gojo of Chainsaw Man (and yeah I'm aware people ship them a lot) and honestly it was just hype. It was fantastic and I can't wait for season two
Funnily enough, most people wouldn't actually say the main selling point is the action. I'm so happy we did get the god tier action though, just another brilliant part of the show. There's two reasons most people hold the show in high regard. One is the author's storytelling, the way he uses framing, how accurately his panels portray human emotion, his use of irony and symbolism. The other is the plot! It's very Tarantino-esque, not simple at all in my opinion. I'm glad that the first season stuck with people (but imo for different reasons to the manga) because they're in for even more wilder things in the future.
Agreed as well The actions are actually quite brief, and even tension building isn’t as long with lots of intense build up all the time like most shounens, not that they aren’t intense nor meaningful Instead it’s like a seamless rollercoaster ride that goes from going with your every day life, to deaths suddenly close to you And the subtlety and dimension of most of the characters are just top notch
The elephant in the room with CSM is that the vast majority of the content that people are super hyped about comes directly AFTER the point at which this 1st season finishes. You can kinda think of season 1 as 'set-up', and I think the 'pay-off' that comes in the next couple of arcs is what caused the insane hype levels. So bit of a shame we're probably gonna have to wait a year or more for a second season.
The best parts about chainsaw man is not the action, but the emotional beats. We got a taste of that this season, with himeno. But there are so many more to come. From the cinema to the snowball fight to everything with reze. While the action is great, what really makes chainsaw man is the story. Nothing has ever quite pulled the rug from under you as hard as chainsaw man does, while both being incredibly obvious in retrospect and yet still almost everyone gets fooled.
Yeah i could kind of tell we havent gotten into the real meat of the story. This season was great but i didnt think it really deserved ALL the hype it's gotten. Definitely reading the manga soon
@@jambott5520 i love how csm fans will always HAVE to deliver the point that the story is the selling point, not the action 😂 i hope it does not disappoint tho
This is sadly what happened to Tower of God as well. Everyone was hyped about what is gonna happen right after the events of season 1, so having to wait for that, while season 1 was more a setup was kinda disappointing.
I always felt action isn't really that important to Chainsaw Man as it is in other shonens. Obviously there are a lot of action but it was always felt like an afterthought to the story and plot progression of the series.
I can absolutley not wait for u to get to the parts where the story very much turns crazy and unique ,the first season is such a tease into this franchise
As a manga reader who finished the first half of the story, the plot is nothing special. Yes, it has its unique moments but from the narrative standpoint, it's nothing out of this world that will blow your mind. I'm not saying it's bad but the manga isn't as good as people hype it up to be. It's like 8.4/10 imo.
As a manga reader, it really isnt. Its good because its goofy and has amazing animation and characters. edit: if people wanna make an hour long analysis on somethiong thats trending as fuck, theyll do so. As I said, the story really isnt anything amazing. "crazy moments like hell" is not a story...
@@LKonstantina915 it's good because it has crazy moments like hell (literally). it's good because it has snowball fights that are more emotionally heavy than other entire manga series. Animation isn't even a thing in manga no idea what you're talking about.
A lot of my favorite moments were the quiet ones where they took topknot mans and just quietly reminisced. I also expected it too be shorter than other animes. Just looking at Power's entrance, as she walks down the hallway, kinda blew my mind with the quality.
Mappa definitely had an Aki bias but I don't mind it at all. He's animated so beautifully, even just his eyes or hands being in frame is nice to watch. The weight and detail they gave to the Aki vs. samurai sword fight made me rewatch that scene probably ~15 times. The movement felt so realistic and tense. Even with the animation aside, I'm glad they focused on the quieter moments like that, especially the finale's ending. Seeing Denji finally find connections and slowly grow into his relationship with Aki and Power is subtle but so lovely.
@@hei7846 they definitely have a type lmao. My favorite has gotta be the way studio Bones draws Reigen from Mob Psycho. He looks like a drowned rat in the manga, so it's such a funny divergence to animate him looking like the male lead of a rom-com in some scenes
There haven't been so many Cosplayers for a character (makina) since Overwatch . This is how horny and popualr some of the characters in this anime is .
I loved so much how they had a different outro for every single episode with great animations on each that differ from the show it self. so happy with it
i think denji is such an interesting main character, being deprived of basic psychological needs his whole life his motivations are really simple, unlike other protagonists which are marched on by high ideals. he very much doesn't understand himself and why he behaves the way he does in response to others, so he chalks it down to wanting to achieve those basic needs as he doesn't understand concepts like empathy.
The way that Power's and ESPECIALLY Aki's backstories were worked in sequentially without feeling like it was pulling you away from the main story too much was so cool. I like the weaving between serious and unserious, i love Denji's blase attitude towards fighting, he never seems to doubt himself which is so fun to watch.
Chainsaw Man’s art style reminds me of the early 2000’s punk rock art. Fujimoto is brilliant when it comes to making content for a specific audience. This is why I love several other series that have a distinctive style that helps it stand out on its own, but also goes for a specific audience. It gives the series a lot of character and identity.
I at first disagreed with critikal as well, but then I realized he didnt read the Manga and so the plot probably is pretty generic from a beginner perspective.
True, things only start getting non-generic after the reveals in the next arc start to make you question things and the reveals in the arc after it make you realize what the actual threat is.
I promise you, as long as the animation doesn't start dipping in quality, CSM will be regarded as one of the best animated shows ever. Every single arc is better than the last. Part one, or the Public Safety Saga, has 4 more arcs to it, with the International Assassins Arc probably being my favorite. The last arc in right up there though it's also peak
Chainsawman has so bang for your buck with content. It never drags out stuff, it feels like each idea and plot point has trimmed out all the fat and left just the juicy bits. It really feels cinematic with how unapologetic the show can be in disposing characters from all sides. Truly a banger of a show
As someone who started watching CSM without having read the manga and without much expectation, I got caught from the first episode, the characters, the plot, the music, the direction, the animation is a work of art, as they respect both the moments of fighting and the quiet moments and reflection is beautiful, little by little you start to get attached to the characters and you start to like them more. I loved the realistic style they gave it, I think it's different and innovative, watch it and you won't regret it.
@@calvinripley9093 nah i read the manga after ep11 and after ep12 released I still watch and enjoyed it. I just really can't leave something on a cliffhanger lol. im still looking forward to watch whole s2 of csm
The first season definitely focused more on action and its fun character moments, but after the Katana Man arc the story takes a heavy dip into the plot and becomes far less simple. This anime is going to subvert your expectations a whole lot, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The animation is just top notch, even better than what i expected while reading the manga. I hope mappa doesnt drop the quality until the end. WHO WANNA SEE THAT ENDİNG FİGHT???
ikr, which is funny because some weirdos on Twitter want to re-animate it because 'they don't like 3d' even though half the shots would've been nearly impossible without at least some 3d.
I think the devil concept in this show is one of the coolest concepts ever, the idea that these devils spawn from human fear and take on a concept which will be their power. Like Makima explained to Aki, every devil is based on a concept, and depending on how much that concept is feared, the stronger that devil is. So as an example, people arent very afraid of coffee, so a coffee devil wouldnt be that strong. But what about the Darkness Devil? The Fire Devil? Space Devil? Hell Devil? Horror Devil? Such a cool concept that i think makes this story super unique
Those 2 slice of life episodes in the middle of the season (and the crazy one after it) were my favourite episodes of the year. *chefs kiss* level of direction
You should check out his other manga Fire Punch. It’s every bit insane, if not more, then Chainsaw Man. It also is where a lot of CSM characters get their inspiration from.
This story has one of my favourite mixtures of insanity and goofiness combined with so many great genuine moments. This season really is an appetizer for what's to come but sets up great dynamics especially looking back at it. I really enjoyed that we got a unique ending for every episode, with great styles and music that I loved. They felt like the equivalent of the manga covers of CSM which are so colorful and abstract compared to the grittiness of the rest. It's a story that really grew on me and seeing everyone animated and lively is kinda surreal, which made me appreciate the calm and mellow moments even more. And the sountrack just fits so well and is right up my alley. If anyone is interested in more stories told by the author I cannot recommend Goodbye Eri and Look Back enough, they're short and a wild ride.
my favorite part of this anime is how it can become extremely melancholic and emotionally intense out of nowhere. the amount of effort they put into the animation of the most random and irrelevant scenes, like Aki just lighting up some cigarettes on his balcony, characters walking around the city, or for scenes that are just dialogue and talking but are important to the story and character development, etc. Its surprisingly beautiful given how insane and zany and action packed the rest of it can get. the music too. the “vibe” and the aesthetic is incredible
Chainsawman is very "JoJo"-esque in this regard where Fujimoto knows when to have fun but also constantly reminds readers that the stakes are very much real just like Araki does with JoJo and its character deaths.
Chainsaw man making Charlie laugh is something interesting, i remember watching Totally Not Mark's video about the manga, and he says that he doesn't laugh watching anime at all but with chainsaw man, he laughed tons. I think the "movie-like" approach and natural dialogue helps to give the show a natural humour too, sometimes is over the top but it never feels artificial or done just to make you laugh, is there as part of the story and the development of the characters. For example, Denji's goal to touch boobs is very silly, but it's used as a way to develop his wants, is there for the character to grow and change as consequence of his expectations being subverted. When season 2 comes i think people are gonna be even more surprised and engaged by fujimoto's storytelling, since this is the part where the story really begins to shift. Overall, i agree with the 90% score for the anime, I'm so happy mappa didn't disappoint.
It's because Chainsawman has a very "Western" style of comedy. It uses a ton of dark humor, sarcasm, and dry humor, whereas the typical Japanese style of comedy is the opposite, it's all about being loud and silly.
@@lordlubu3029 yeah, his approach to jokes is very refreshing, he really isn't scared of showing anything (like someone puking in another person's mouth)
It did surprise me a bit. I found the comedy lacking compared to the manga, but to be fair there were some really funny scenes in the anime. One I even prefer in the anime.
wdym season 1 is better in all kinds of anime, and best anime of all time already. no one can beat season 1 CSM. this is the greatest anime of all time and it is top 1. season 1 CSM destroy all anime in just 1 series tho.
I’m sad they only got through 12 episodes, but we gotta remember there’s only like 60 chapters until the end of part 1. That’s like 1.5 more seasons or 1 season and a movie. I would’ve loved more but stopping it here makes complete sense in the grand scheme of things
@@ABCDjjwI agree I think if they did 20 or more episodes this season they would already be half way through the manga. Gotta spread it out a bit to give the manga time to truck on.
@@ABCDjjw yea i did the math on how the pacing was for season 1, from here to the end of part 2, it would have only been like 20ish episodes. The reze arc is too long for them to have done something like 15/15 season split. If they did 24 episodes then it would have left only like 7-8 episodes to end the series. Which they could have just done a movie tbh idk why they didn’t do that. But it seems like they instead chose to do 12/20 season split. Which honestly is better imo. This is a better place to stop. Imagine if they stopped after the hell scene. They would have been wayyy worse.
the fact they had the nuts to actually run that puke snowball scene instead of just off screening it was so crazy. 12/10, never strayed from source my man
@@Sengial The argument is still valid tho. Denji didn't change that much, it would've been cool to see his development if the first season had more episodes.
@@Sengial You’re talking about theme. Theme is the underlining messages and ideas of a story like relationships, personal development, and lessons. And plot is the simplified version of a story. So more episodes would develop the plot, theme, and story.
@@crow2989 Technically speaking, part 1 counts as one arc. It says so when you finish it. Fans came up with names for all the "mini-arcs" that are in part 1, but none of them are official.

It is fairly simple. Simple =\= bad, it is good, but by no means is it very complex. Given that the story also barely elaborates on plot points and just speeds through a lot of stuff, calling it simple just comes natural.
What characters? Do you mean underdeveloped characters that die 10 chapters after their introduction? Even Power and Aki weren't that great. Ngl, the only side character who had so little screen time that I liked was Yoshida. I'm glad he's back in the second half of the story.

The best part is some people accused chainsaw man of using cgi in one of the fights and one of the producers showed that it was just really good 2d animation.
As someone who generally doesn't like most animes i was surprised how much i enjoyed this show. Despite the ridiculous plot and the eccentric characters the show felt surprisingly grounded. The characters are way more complex than you think at the beginning and there's also this feeling throughout the show that any character could die at any moment. And also theres less talking and inner monologues when compared to most other animes.
I just have to say that whenever Charlie puts up a moist meter or a review on anything I can actually see the points he shows In whatever he’s reviewing since he isn’t bias and he will just say whatever is in his mind I’m a massive fan on moist meters and reviews, thanks for the amazing videos Charlie :)
I read the manga couple months ago. I really wonder what would happen in the next few seasons, and I understand why it is only 12 episodes. Oh, you will see
Just wait until later when the story picks up. It disguises itself as having an incredibly simple story in the beginning, but once the plot gets going it really shows how well it’s written
I haven't read the manga, so I have no idea what comes next, but I'm excited for a Season 2. I don't usually watch anime that much but since this one was so hyped up I decided to give it a watch. And I thought it was very enjoyable, a lot of fun to watch and I highly recommend it. Just... don't be eating anything when you watch episode 8. Just trust me on this one
If you think this is great, you'll love what comes next. The manga has awesome paneling for powerful devil's so I'm excited what they'll do. We're so close to one of the most impressive fights, should be the next episode
My only concern is MAPPA animators being overworked. It's all speculative but I would rather they hire more animators and take more time off if it means an eternity of quality releases
Dawg the overworking was early 2021 issue and mostly on aot s4. Mappa hires new animators every year and they give them 2 year contracts with being the 2nd highest paying salary on anime industry. Mappa has alot of freelancers and some foreign animators joining them as in house staff. Also they have 5 division buildings now + a new sub studio for mastering cgi. Mappa is not a small studio unlike cloverworks. Cloverworks is more overworked than mappa which most of their recent animes almost have the same animators. Dont believe those caring hypocrites memeing mappa's false rumors
The dub took it even further tbh. The voice actors were so spot on, especially with denji and power that I thought it was an actual abridged series, the acting was just so god damn good.
I’m happy he enjoyed it and he can have his opinions for sure yk but I’m surprised he didn’t mention how the show was capable of being serious and doing a great job at being emotional
Mappa killed it with the slice of life moments we see, especially what we saw in the last episode (no spoilers). I feel so gratified watching these characters live their day by day and I’d even say that it’s just as strong as the action.
The best part about chainsawman is that it gets better as it goes. If this season was already a 90% for Charlie I can easily see him putting later seasons in the 95% range as long as the animation keeps up
So happy you ended up enjoying this so much Charlie. This was one of the first mangas I ever read so it has a special place in my heart, the show was so binge-able for me and waiting a week for each new episode was torture even though I knew everything that happens. I read all 11 Volumes in a single weekend cause I couldn't stop. Season 2 is gonna be nothing but peaks can't wait to see what you think of it
The appearance of a certain character at the epilogue of ep. 12 solidifies the fact that we're gonna get a season 2 and if we make it to the international hunters arc hooo boy, Its gonna be insane
Regarding the number of episodes compared to JuJutsu Kaisen, you have to remember that as amazing as JJK looked, it still looked like an anime series, whereas each episode of Chainsaw Man looked like a movie. They had to cut the number of episodes down to 12 to fully utilize the budget to create that cinematic feel. (and no, they couldn't have done away with that cinematic feel because the author, Fudgemotor-sensei, fucking LOVES movies)
same, fights/actions are not my main focus But for me it's Tatsuki Fujimoto himself, the artstyle, the way how he told a story is just so unique and beautiful. None of other authors are brilliant as him in storytelling through image/manga panels
@@makotomachiyuki Seriously. This man is Akira Toriyama levels. I was never confused by any of the fights like I am with lots of parts of the One Piece manga. But his characters, their expressions and how authentic they feel is on a whole other level.
@@dilbophagginz I’m dreading it because it is not the first time I hear this sentiment. Maybe it’s my reading comprehension in manga but even pre time skip confuses me. As a manga reader, what the anime has covered thusfar is just the TIP of the iceberg. What's to come is even more balls to the wall insane and emotional.
I have to agree. I enjoyed it so much, that I actually went and read the manga. I finished the first manga, and when more chapters are out, I’ll probably read the second part. It’s one of the few shows that had me wanting more.
I think its worth mentioning that the chainsaw man team was like 98% rookier animators who were chosen mostly because of how much they loved the manga. Would love to see this kind of attitude in more production
When my man sees the story of season two, he will understand why they split the storyline into two seasons. It is literally twice as good, if you liked season one you’re gunna shit your pants at season 2.
As an anime-only watcher (that has had some major manga plot points spoiled, unfortunately), everything about the show was amazing. The music/vibes, the animation, the characters, the power system, the general style of the show, etc. MAPPA struck lightning with JJK, and they did it again with CSM. They're just showing once again why they're the best studio doing it right now. Can't wait for the next year+ of banger after banger from them.
I love the way they have fused comedy how serious the situation is. It makes it feels alot more badass.

The twist being, that no one is safe. Anyone can die, to the point that when a devil says that aki will die you believe it.

Bro they dream having denji's debt
eh I doubt they have families
MAPPA animators got it worse than people on death row
Their attack on titan animation has been really bad, but I'm assuming that's because of a super tight deadline. It seems like the studio has plenty of talent to do better, if given a realistic timeline
They probably were forced to abandon their families to focus on working
Not sure if you purposefully exclude mentioning OP and ED's but I think it's a really cool point that each episode has a unique ending song and animation.

One thing he didn’t mention that I loved was how each episode had a different ED. It’s not the first anime to do that (OreImo comes to mind, of all things) but that they were even able to do that in the first place makes me really happy, especially since every single piece of music slaps in its own way. Given my personal tastes, the metal one from episode…3, I think(?) hits the hardest, though the ZUTOMAYO track that came before is also excellent, as they’re one of my favorite artists.
did Oreimo have different visuals to match each new ending song? Or was it just a new ending song each episode
@@MunkeyyCANA it had different visuals
Oh and on top of that, while the OP was the same per season, the animation had slight differences in each episode.
honestly my favourite is frome episode 7, its the most midwest emo-esk, dreampop-esk that was there. but the metal one from episode 3 is really good, (personally dislike metal) i like how it goes from metal to a bit of breakcore to a really chill atmosphere of a song.
@@MccFallen yeah that one is another highlight for me

Funnily enough, most people wouldn't actually say the main selling point is the action. I'm so happy we did get the god tier action though, just another brilliant part of the show.
There's two reasons most people hold the show in high regard. One is the author's storytelling, the way he uses framing, how accurately his panels portray human emotion, his use of irony and symbolism. The other is the plot! It's very Tarantino-esque, not simple at all in my opinion. I'm glad that the first season stuck with people (but imo for different reasons to the manga) because they're in for even more wilder things in the future.
Yeah if I'm being honest I feel like the action wasn't as big a deal in most eps than I had expected.
Agreed as well
The actions are actually quite brief, and even tension building isn’t as long with lots of intense build up all the time like most shounens, not that they aren’t intense nor meaningful
Instead it’s like a seamless rollercoaster ride that goes from going with your every day life, to deaths suddenly close to you
And the subtlety and dimension of most of the characters are just top notch
What does tarantino-esque mean?
i mean if you read the manga all the way through, the emotion side of things is much better latter on, imo
The plot is convoluted trash. Thought it was really good when it came out, I decided to read the manga because I got quite hooked. The plot is so bad.
Definitely reading the manga soon

i think denji is such an interesting main character, being deprived of basic psychological needs his whole life his motivations are really simple, unlike other protagonists which are marched on by high ideals. he very much doesn't understand himself and why he behaves the way he does in response to others, so he chalks it down to wanting to achieve those basic needs as he doesn't understand concepts like empathy.
The way that Power's and ESPECIALLY Aki's backstories were worked in sequentially without feeling like it was pulling you away from the main story too much was so cool. same with me from 38 to 101, it was a trip for sure
Just wait until you see where the story goes next bc S1 is pretty normal compared to where Fujimoto went from there 🤣
Chainsaw man making Charlie laugh is something interesting, i remember watching Totally Not Mark's video about the manga, and he says that he doesn't laugh watching anime at all but with chainsaw man, he laughed tons.

@@davidtwilight2363 I just saw this exact same comment from you in another video
As someone who has read the manga, I hate how they just stop half way through part 1. Like if they continued on this train it would've been insane
Yeah but also it’s better we wait and get the bomb girl arc in it’s full glory. Our queen must have the full justice given to her
let the animators and budget take break lmao
the fact they had the nuts to actually run that puke snowball scene instead of just off screening it was so crazy. 12/10, never strayed from source my man
It’s biggest issue was how short it was since it barely gets into the main plot of the show
The thing is. The "main plot" is not the main focus. The actual plot of chainsaw man is denji and how the relationships he has changes him
@@Sengial The argument is still valid tho. Denji didn't change that much, it would've been cool to see his development if the first season had more episodes.
@@skarlet9104 he's not depressing kid u kno

is the underlining messages and ideas of a story like relationships, personal development, and lessons. And plot is the simplified version of a story. So more episodes would develop the plot, theme, and story.
“Very simple storyline” bro I can’t wait for season 2, y’all ain’t ready
I finished reading the first part/arc recently, so can't wait to see how they animate it. luv'd everything especially powaaaa

I like a show that is self-aware. No bs pretensions at being deep, just over the top action, humor and tension. It is really a movie-like series.
I assure you tho, it will get deep as much as crazy
@@KamikaZedManga I read the manga
the show *does* try to be deep though, and it does it very badly... like with Himeno and Aki's character arcs and backstories
@@beebee404 These character arcs are simple. It's very whatever if they work or not. The humor is not all that either
If you didn't get sold on the action and chaos you should def drop it. It's not really a deep series in any sense of the word just a playground with flawed characters moving around hectically
@@RandomPerson-me8do they aren’t really “whatever” if they don’t work, because the show spends a lot of time on them. Like the episode with Aki’s backstory - most of the episode was focused on him as a character and it wasn’t executed well. It wasn’t funny or un-serious either, quite the opposite imo.
Honestly, with chainsaw man, the fact that majority if not all talking scenes still have moving part to it. Its just great seeing characters be brought to life through more than just moving the mouth.
Charlie, the last 40 chapters of part 1 are really good, keep on the lookout.

Masterpiece is a stretch but it’s good
It is fairly simple. Simple =\= bad, it is good, but by no means is it very complex. Given that the story also barely elaborates on plot points and just speeds through a lot of stuff, calling it simple just comes natural.

Arguably the most well animated show i’ve ever laid my eyes upon. Nearly flawless adaptation, can’t wait to see the rest of the show
The best part is some people accused chainsaw man of using cgi in one of the fights and one of the producers showed that it was just really good 2d animation.
I just have to say that whenever Charlie puts up a moist meter or a review on anything I can actually see the points he shows In whatever he’s reviewing since he isn’t bias and he will just say whatever is in his mind
I’m a massive fan on moist meters and reviews, thanks for the amazing videos Charlie :)
I’ve gone my entire life without watching a single anime. But this show looked so good that I couldn’t resist. It’s officially my first anime.
art is a medium, and you can have preferences. That's fine
Couldn't think of a better show to start tbh
What a way to start anime XD
Enjoy the ride that's Chainsaw Man. There's a lot to look forward to.
Either every other anime will become unwatchable or you will fall in love with the medium
You misunderstood my friend the hype wasn't for the first season.... It was for whats to come
The hype was for stuff that is yet to come. This was like a prologue.
I'd delete this comment before someone comes and starts spoiling the story for you
If you think this is great, you'll love what comes next. The manga has awesome paneling for powerful devil's so I'm excited what they'll do. We're so close to one of the most impressive fights, should be the next episode
I ate throw up when i was watching episode 8 and it didn’t bother me at all
My only concern is MAPPA animators being overworked.
The story actually gets good and original the more it goes
I’m bummed out 2 of 3 main animes I were watching are taking a break. Bleach and Chainsaw Man were amazing can’t wait for the return.
Mappa killed it with the slice of life moments we see, especially what we saw in the last episode (no spoilers). I feel so gratified watching these characters live their day by day and I’d even say that it’s just as strong as the action.
The best part about chainsawman is that it gets better as it goes. If this season was already a 90% for Charlie I can easily see him putting later seasons in the 95% range as long as the animation keeps up
Charlies blinking looks like he's trying go communicate in mors code.
