I actually just started a new oblivion play through. With about 400 mods. They have a big modpack called rebirth plus. It is definitely worth checking out.
Skyrim moddings came so far in such a short amount of time. I remember SkySA being released and that was seen as revolutionary. Now we have MCO which is more advanced and we can download entire mod packs with one click. Only issues I have with NOVLUS is the balancing issues with the stances and most of the new armor sets. Weapons like swords (especially great swords) feel way more stronger than the other weapons in their respective one/two handed classes because of the sheer speed which you can swing in certain stances. Greats swords just feel ridiculously OP compared to other two handed weapons because of Stance 2 animation set.
There's also Requiem modlists, if you want something more challenging like Wildlander, Arkay's commandments, Do Not Go Gentle, etc... really good lists.
I can also recommend Septimus! Currently in the process of installing Gate To Sovngarde because it works with shaders rather than ENB (better optimization for lower end PCs), and because it is fully compatible with the latest Skyrim AE update.
Thank you for covering this, I’ve been modding for years and stumbled upon nolvus and it seems like really balanced out skyrim. I’ve been hooked since couple months ago.
I'm really interested In this. What is the companion system like? Companions are like my favorite part of rpgs. Maybe romance but nothing brutal. Just want to be immersed
This may sound crazy for this channel, but I haven't played Skyrim since it was released originally. @MrMattyPlays you have me convinced that I should reinstall it and give this mod a go!
me too, Skyrim in VR is amazing (well as long as you take the time to mod it first). When I first got to Whiterun I just went into the Bannered Mare, pulled up a bench in real life, and sat on my seat in VR to match and just took in the atmosphere, it was incredible.
I just started another playthrough, this time on my Xbox X (previously played on my PS), using mods, i'm experiencing a brand new game. While not to This level, it's amazing the difference now. Different characters, maps, graphics, UI, all that. It's truly like a new game. Even voice acting for Lydia lol. And the character overhauls are.... nice. LOL
@@mattpenix8438 either special, legendary or anniversary edition. Between the series X or ps5 I recommend playing on the X. There’s way more mods to choose from
What always draws me back to Skyrim is Whiterun and it’s massive beautiful fields. It feels like Rohan from LOTR. And of course solitude feels like Gondor. My main home in Skyrim is Whiterun & my character is married to Lydia lol 😂. The Dawnguard heavy armor is a bonus for me!
I just did yet another play of Skyrim myself. I tried a mod pack, but I didn't like it so I made my own mod list. I ended up with over 700 mods, but I was SUPER happy with how it all worked. I found myself playing in third person as well, and it was AMAZING! The improved combat, animations, and visuals were just great. I'm sure at some point in 2024 I'll be loading up Skyrim again! :P
It's always better to simply put in the time to figure out the exact mods you want. After the initial setup it is an easy matter of maintenance with occasional updates or adding another mod here and there. I have always been fundamentally opposed to mod packs, especially considering how incredibly easy it is to mod. In my experience, most people that use mod packs are just scared of modding. In the beginning of the video Matty mentions having issues with 50-100 mods and from my perspective I cannot even imagine what someone would be doing to have issues with so few mods. I have an entry level computer and I can easily run over 500 mods, many of which are very large. I have NEVER had an issue with save files or CTDs. In the very rare occasion of a conflict, I can typically resolve it in a couple of minutes.
The problem with this is that you'll have to play through the entire game to know if the modlist works without issues. If you're unlucky, the game crashes or some other issue occurs mid-playthrough. When using a mod collection like Nolvus or any other collection from Nexus, you'll know it's been well tested and confirmed to work on a playthrough (at least for the well known, high rated collections).
@@StationaryEarth Nobody wants to waste time to learn and do this crap, is it that hard to understand? Why on anybody on earth would be against a simple, harmless thing like mod packs is beyond me...
@@rolf1819 It is profoundly difficult to understand why anyone would be upset by the thought of having to learn something that is so simple to do. Are you like that with everything in your life? If modding is crap anyway, why waste your time even with a mod pack? Also, if you have so little time to spare that you can't take 45 minutes to learn the fundamentals of modding you probably shouldn't be playing games to begin with. Mod managers basically do everything for you. Why on earth were you are railing as though I was advocating for violence against mod packs or their compilers. Are you okay? Do you need some help? It is absolutely better to do it yourself. Mod packs make the game into what someone else wants, not what the player would otherwise build if given the option on their own to choose individual mods. I just want the player to have the most personalized experience possible. I can't even imagine why someone would not want a completely tailored experience when it is at their very fingertips to achieve.
I’ve been using the eldergleam mod pack. It takes the animation and visual upgrades but stays true to vanilla Skyrim, allowing it to be very compatible with other mods you may want to manually install
new mod for skyrim that completely changes the way the camera/movement works is 'True Directional Movement', makes it feel like a modern game whilst not taking anything away from the vanilla experience
I think 90% of the game is inherently good. But it's just the 10% that is bad is the most impactful. The amount of loads is just too many and it really hurts the rest of the game. If starfield was more fluent then it would help everything else
Looked up this video after starting yet another playthrough of Skyrim this September. It's a game I always have installed on my PC and fire up once every year or so. It's kind of a comfort game for me. Playing it feels like coming home and I'm always entertained by it. There's always something interesting to go see, no matter where you are on the map. I love checking out new mods, doing different challenge runs and playing the game in new ways.
I remember November 11th 2011 literally as if it was yesterday, I don't know the exact total spanning between various 360 releases an Xbox One release and various PC versions that I have had over the years. But it's safe to say that I've spent north of 3 or 4000 hours in Skyrim. Recently I had taken my longest hiatus, but I begun getting the itch again, mainly from listening to the soundtrack while working, Long story short though, you have 100% convinced me to invest the time into starting up another file using this modpack thanks bro❤❤❤😎😬
skyrim has devolved for me into an endless cycle of starting a new game, going to whiterun and starting a new game again but with different equipment, going to whiterun, and starting over again
I highly recommend the Wildlander modpack if you want something with more challenge. It is based on Requiem, which intimidates some but it’s really not bad once you get started. 0 crashes for me, incredibly stable and it looks so nice
I've been loving Wildlander, it was my first experience with Requiem. After I actually beat some endgame content I also want to try Arkay's Commandments or Lalaland cause I've heard they're good and introduce a new leveling/XP system.
Yeah my own Skyrim collection was lost when my drive broke. Nolvus was an upgrade on what I had, virtually the same choices with one or two I didn't need to activate. Love it. Seasonal, LotD, combat upgrades, wide choice of apparel, loads of followers, some of the best quest mods, all the additional villages and towns, Anniversary friendly, survival optional (I hate it, but realize it is a must for others). The one thing I would change is the clothing choice, it's a bit skimpy sometimes and I do miss the classic, updated immersive armor mod, I may look into adding that back in, as I know it used to be part of the pack. Wabbajack's Lost Legacy and Elysium Remastered will be preferred by some and are very similar. All three are valid softcore choices for those of us who don't want to reload every minute of our precious time. Incidentally I love BG3 and even Starfield too. Had a blast with all three of these recently.
I've been considering starting a new playthrough of Skyrim lately and this mod pack looks like a really good excuse to actually take the plunge again. I'm not sure how well my PV will handle it, but it definitely looks enough like a 'new experience' to be worth fiddling around with to make it happen. I wasn't sure what to think of the mod packs when they first came out, but stuff like this shows just how handy they can actually be!
If you want a completly new experience without hundreds of mods? Enderal Forgotten Stories. It blows asway Skyrim gameplay despite being based on Skyrim.
I usually end up playing skyrim about once a year as well, I've been heavy into modding for years. As a programmer sometimes I just get the itch to spend a week putting together a 400-500 mod list and really diving into the weeds to figure it out and get "the perfect" setup. Wasn't really feeling the modding time but after playing Elden Ring was in the mood for some Skyrim. Just tried this auto installer out and OMG. This is absolutely crazy, I don't recognize my skyrim, my son doesn't recognize my skyrim. My wife who has watched me play Skyrim for years thought I was still playing Elden Ring. Absolutely blown away by this, can't recommend it enough.
Btw, if you want better perfomance, make sure you use the upscaler from that one modder guy. While i do use the ARRRR version of his mod (because hell no way am i paying for version for more compatibility), it comes with enb compat. But anyway, it boosts your perfomance by a lot. Theres also another one that pops in borderless etc.
The compass disappearing is probably because you pressed x mistakenly. That toggles that portion of the ui. You can do the same with the other parts too.
When Starfield begins to catch up to this level of mod investment, us patient, mature, steady people will not judge. We won't say anything but "hey, welcome back! Knew I'd see you again!" 😅 Lolol
I’ve not bought Starfield yet after buying Skyrim 4 times since 2011. but I hope you’re right and I’ll gladly buy it at that point or even half as far as Skyrim is at this point.
@@TheBbrstanggt All things considered, I start to wonder if a game can win GOTY after it's initial release, with Skyrim being the perfect example of the implied possibilities.
@@oliverkick915 That just means new blood will become the "big modders" for Starfield. They've already got mods that do things like building your own space station before the creation kit's been released.

After Playing Starfield all I wanted to do was give Fallout and Skyrim a shot on PC, and in the last few weeks cause its been a couple of years since I played Skyrim on console. These new mods are something else. It like a new game. Enjoying way more than ever or I ever did on starfield.
Nolvus collection is amazing. It requires quite a powerful machine to run it but if you have one and love Skyrim now is the time to give it a try. I love it, every corner of the map feels like a new location with this collection. Such a refreshing experience it gives to the old game. Feels like a new game.
Not sure if it’s possible, but I would love to see something like this on Xbox. If not a mod installer type manager, at least bundles or mod lists that are tested, work, and ready to go. Even with some TH-camrs doing mod lists, it’s a heavy lift and doesn’t always work.
Ngl one of the most impressive things about Nolvus is the amount of support on their website and discord. It really makes it super easy. Ive been up since midnight doing a fresh custom mod list on my legion go and its been such a pain. The little details they include for Nolvus when I put it on my main PC were so nice to have
@@OGtruthserum im not an expert and thatd probably be a question for their discord but id assume unless whatever font theyre using (I think its Sovngarde) has a different size you can download, its unchangeable. @@OGtruthserum meaning changing the collection? If so, they recommend against removing most stuff especially from the redux version cause its already stripped down but there are some mods you can remove safely and some you can add, it just depends on the mod. @@proto6948 No I meant can I make every mods in the collection with increase text size like in the original Skyrim Anniversary Edition or Vanilla Skyrim. I have trouble seeing small texts. Basically, making sure all the mods in the collection use the same text size, instead of individually going through each mod and changing the settings (if applicable).
The problem with Nolvus is the installation. You either pay for Nexus mod Premium to have automatic downloads or you will have to manually click yes on each mod it installs.
I downloading Nolvus a few month ago and i love it. I actually bought Starfield (Boring game) and i barely touch it. I have very few PC skills and even i got Nolvus downloaded and working great. I do have a high PC, so make sure your PC can handle it! I'm running it on a RTX 4090. But it defiantly turns it to a completely different game.
I installed Nolvus the other day, and I was really sceptical about the Dark Souls / Elden Ringy / JARPG stuff - due to not being a fan. I'm really liking it, and it's insanely stable. 12 hours in, zero crashes, no issues with steam updating Skyrim and breaking it. The only gripe I've got is that there's a couple of other mods I want with it, but I can't get them to work with it. I love the sense of discovery. Having to interact with NPC's to learn their name or somehow getting lost in Bleka Falls barrow - a place I've been to about a million times
I have been playing Skyrim on and off since release, and earlier today I had the quest to find a shield for the Jarl of Markarth, and for maybe the second time ever I had to go to a tower and a Hag that was captive that then helped me through the quest so she could get revenge on her sister. The last time I didn't help her (if I have done it before, It would have been many years ago) and just went solo. It was such an interesting quest being helped by a hag.....love this game, and no mods, I'm playing on the switch.
I finally played through Skyrim about a month ago for the FIRST TIME. Was a great experience for the most part, outside of having to reload old saves all the time from missions bugging out. I can finally understand how its kept all its relevance for so long now though.
Last time I played Skyrim (SSE), I had EnB-mods installed, and played in ‘survival-mode’. Basically no fast-travel (except wagons), backpack with tent and living off the land. Getting a horse and use it for ‘fast-travel’. Matty likes 2Handed sword, while I like playing as an archer.
You mentioned your compass disappearing… this happened to me a few times and i had to reload to fix. then i found out there’s actually a button that makes it turn on/off. I believe it is the X key, could be wrong double check the controls list if you have this issue. Also, can’t believe Matty didn’t even mention the winterhold overhaul!
He said he was running it on a 3080. I just wonder what settings he applied and if he optimised his Nvidia settings for Skyrim because I use a 3070 on ultra with performance LODs and I get a steady 30fps outside except in The Rift.

Mad respect to vektor9999 for putting together an extremely stable modernisation of Skyrim (and of course all the authors of all the individual mods).
@@da_ocsta1452 It is extremely stable, have had only 2 or 3 crashes in the entire period which I suspect are not at all list related since even unmodded Skyrim has random crashes. The 1990's called me and asked for their game engine back :P
Only played Skyrim for 15 or so hours last year and loved it but got distracted by other things. Just redownloaded it yesterday with Nolvus. They've made a less taxing "Redux" version of the mod or various performance settings to choose from. I only played 15 minutes of the intro but so far it looks great.
Yeah, I've been playing this for months. I couldn't enjoy Starfield because of it. It truly highlights how so many fun things can be packed into a single gaming experience.
Thanks Matty, I've been looking for a reason for another "1 last play" of Skyrim. Hopefully I'll finish it this time by being able to get the modding done so quick!
Nolvus uses the downgrade patcher to return the game to return it to pre-AE while keeping the AE content, and it copies your Skyrim files to a new location so updates can't mess up an existing Nolvus install.
Your not usually click batey but this is like the third time you did this. You need to specify its for PC in the title. I was expecting to be excited just to not have access cuz I play on Xbox. I’m a realist so I do advanced follower overhaul to caravan about as well. But I think the coolest mod this year is the advanced ai framework. It’s got two content modules that start active competition between factions. Currently restricted to the reach, but includes capturing resource nodes and spawn points for reinforcement, like mines and camp. Like Skyrim at war, you’re gonna want get the corpse clearing mod…it’s pretty sick. And just friggin interesting to watch and participate in too. I even hit a few points to balance things out when it looked like one of the factions was starting to steam roll. Massive potential there.
For those wondering, 1080p/1440p with a 8 core cpu can run this, my buddy has an older AM4 cpu with a 3090, he plays at 1440p and the game plays at 30-60 fps , I play at 4K 4080 with 9900k, my lows are 45 fps , during the installation Nolvus asks if you want to lower down settings for performance, I went all in so did my friend. 16 gb of VRAM minimum is needed if you plan on going with higher settings.
Nolvus is the best modpack ever created. You can even use the pack as a base to build off of. I’ve got 3147 mods in my nolvus list. There’s so much content in nolvus v5 off the rip.

This may sound crazy for this channel, but I haven't played Skyrim since it was released originally. @MrMattyPlays you have me convinced that I should reinstall it and give this mod a go!
I was just thinking yesterday that I wanted to play some Skyrim again but I wanted something different for combat. This is perfect timing for me!
I'm replaying on VR with some QOL mods. It feels like playing it for the very first time again.
Yesssiiiirr
me too, Skyrim in VR is amazing (well as long as you take the time to mod it first).
And the character overhauls are.... nice. LOL
So are there Mods available for Skyrim in Series X? If so, what version do I need to buy to try those?
@@mattpenix8438 either special, legendary or anniversary edition. Between the series X or ps5 I recommend playing on the X. There’s way more mods to choose from
@@mattpenix8438 Yes there are. I had the special edition and upgraded to the Anniversary Edition.
I played the low-spec version of Nolvus 5 over the course of 5 months in 2023. It was basically my GOTY, the pack is so well put together.
I need the civil war and magic to have a massive overhaul
Buy the house in Whiterun, adopt a couple homeless kids, marry an orc, and I'm a happy camper.

The Vr aspect adds a whole other layer as well. Altermage/ Monk combo with the right mods has been so much fun. I've been addicted all over again.
Skyrim VR blew my mind!
Started Nolvus a few months ago. It's amazing. I don't have to play stealthy archer and I'm so happy. The graphics are truly amazing too.
I’ve been using the eldergleam mod pack. It takes the animation and visual upgrades but stays true to vanilla Skyrim, allowing it to be very compatible with other mods you may want to manually install

"Why you need to play skyrim in 2024" - Because starfield is objectively a bad game...
Xbots coming for you
I think 90% of the game is inherently good. But it's just the 10% that is bad is the most impactful. The amount of loads is just too many and it really hurts the rest of the game. If starfield was more fluent then it would help everything else
@@ryanyoung752590 percent um no 90 percent bad 10 percent tiny ok
Even when the video doesn't mention starfield ppl still do.
"Stop! It's already dead!" 😅
That first clip of melee gameplay you showed in the beginning of this video made me never want to play Skyrim again, actually.
This looks cool and all but the fear of uninstalling my current setup and getting something else to work is too real 😅
Nolvus uses a completely separate installation of Skyrim (assuming you have the Steam version), so you can have both installed at the same time
@mahominishiyama124 if what you say is true, then perhaps there's hope. Im not gunna pretend I know exactly what you said, but thanks for the info.
Came back to this vid to say thank you Matty for putting me on this mod pack, it’s pretty incredible wow
Playing Skyrim again definitely works to rinse away the weird taste of nothing Starfield would give us
skyrim has devolved for me into an endless cycle of starting a new game, going to whiterun and starting a new game again but with different equipment, going to whiterun, and starting over again
A fellow wildlander enjoyer.
Imo, that modlist (or requiem in general) improved half of skyrims flaws, and made it much better, to play.
Wildlander is like how the game should have always been. Its crazy how good it is
Yeah my own Skyrim collection was lost when my drive broke.
I got all my skills on Legendary. I am having fun with it on Switch
Novus is outstanding and a worthy way to play Skyrim
I've been considering starting a new playthrough of Skyrim lately and this mod pack looks like a really good excuse to actually take the plunge again. I'm not sure how well my PV will handle it, but it definitely looks enough like a 'new experience' to be worth fiddling around with to make it happen. I wasn't sure what to think of the mod packs when they first came out, but stuff like this shows just how handy they can actually be!
... and just when I thought I left skyrim-
Well, time to play Skyrim affer I finish Enderal (incredible mod btw.)
If you want a completly new experience without hundreds of mods? Enderal Forgotten Stories. It blows asway Skyrim gameplay despite being based on Skyrim.
3:13 Your pronunciation of pugilist is killing me
I usually end up playing skyrim about once a year as well, I've been heavy into modding for years.
Would not be possible, Nolvus Skyrim takes up waaaay too much space…it’s literally 2000+ mods
The Modswell TH-cam channel and r/SkyrimModsXbox have a bunch of tested modlists.
Ngl one of the most impressive things about Nolvus is the amount of support on their website and discord. It really makes it super easy. Ive been up since midnight doing a fresh custom mod list on my legion go and its been such a pain. The little details they include for Nolvus when I put it on my main PC were so nice to have
Can I increase text size to Vanilla Skyrim text size for the entire Nolvus mod pack?
The problem with Nolvus is the installation. You either pay for Nexus mod Premium to have automatic downloads or you will have to manually click yes on each mod it installs.

You don’t need a mod list that’s the entire point of collections. Just click a few buttons and you’re done.
This looks so goofy
That looks cool Matty but damn that framerate is horrific. What are you running for PC hardware?
