Love it. Been in love with egyptian culture for a long time. It's your eyes which makes the dance beautiful. they are windows to your soul. Just hooked for a while. Keep it up. Nice to see artists doing their thing!
It's amazing to see how different her style is now in 2014. Her technique has changes tremendously. You can see here where she started from. She is my absolutely most favorite dancer, PERIOD. Love Zoe.
MsPunk1209 your vifdeo is great but A product I also found useful for learning how to belly dance step by step was Megarno Belly Dance Magician - if anyone wants to know more search on google
i love her facial expressions in this video. in more recent ones she keeps a straight face. it goes along with her style but you can tell shes in pure bliss dancing in this video
I actually find it very inspirational to see her a bit heavier. She is fantastic and it does not take away from the dancing. It makes me feel better about myself and having an extra 15 pounds. Makes me feel like I can move forward and not have to be as skinny as some belly dancers. If she is fantastic with a tiny bit extra, I can also be fantastic.
People keep criticizing her no matter what. Guess what? SHE'S A HARD EFFING WORKER. Do you have ANY idea how much she practices and works out, let alone dances/performs? The women is healthy, then in this video, and now. Learn to appreciate hard work and talent when you see it, or in this case, it slapping you in the face.
The Golden Hawaiian Swordsman Dragon HIGHLY AGREES! This gorgeous hypnotic human/snake hybrid of a master tribal belly dancer is a very hard worker and is very beautiful!
Beautiful dancer, wonder filled dancing. Lighting was very well done and the photographer was skillful, but what was with all that 'museum' furnishings along the wall ? Really distracting when we have such a beautiful dancer / dance. Thank You
In response to Irynski...many of us western world citizens COMPLETELY appreciate curvaceous natural feminine beauty (not straight from the gym thin). There is a large contingency of people who admire, follow & practice the eastern arts, lifestyles, as well as religions in my western state's capital city. I know this first hand.
@tammipuu She isnt fat, she's definitely in shape. If someone says that, they are probably confusing her somewhat thick waist for being fat. She is simply hardened with muscle in her torso section, because this type of dance requires that.
I also think the video was stretched (ok2bPsycho) ...like some videos are stretched vertically, not horizontally (Kami Liddle performance in Tribal fusion faire 2008 for an example) ..but great performance of Zoe neverthless :)
God, she is amazing. I love how she flows and becomes one with the music. I wish I could do this. I feel like I don't have the body for it, though... not enough curves. :P
* I am a dancer, and the interesting thing is Zoe can dance to some really strange music and she does a combo of turkish/tribal which is rare. Also Yes its true, it does not matter age-sex, body type, weight because there are male bellydancers and built girls. Theres one thats a better dancer than most of us except the teacher of course.
I laugh when people say "Oh i could never do that"...simply notice how most bellydancers have covered legs, its all in the legs so yea it takes some natural skill to make it look as beautiful as this but it's not some magic
This is hilarious. In a more recent video on here people are criticising her for being too thin, and in this one they're criticising because she's curvier. No matter what, the world just refuses to accept a woman for who she is. Wish some folks would take their misogyny elsewhere so the rest of us can view this masterpiece of performance art for what it is.
@hugsxstitches I was trying to find what this Manda person said, but I imagine that I would agree with her as well. The way I see it ANY woman who can take command of her body in the way that is required for belly dance, is amazing. Whether she be a size 20 or a size 2.
sorry, but not all of us can be "curvaceous". Some of us for all intents and purposes are scrawny and a bit flat chested. Does that make us any less able to belly dance or for that matter be female?
to irynski and SabreToothGirl yes you're probably both right but not every woman who wishes to bellydance is curvy, just like not every adolescent boy is flat chested and skinny. i my self am a size of about oh; not to big not to small (130 at 5'3")i only work out enough to maintain that, and am very flat chested by nature, even though i have good hips and a fairly big backside!LOL! but i do so enjoy bellydance!
@MandaJeanMusic I will probably get thumbed down for this but hear me out first. Whilst I do agree that you dont have to have a ''body type'' to do it. I have seen some great plus sized dancers dont get me wrong but what I like to see that I have never seen(feel free to prove me wrong!) is that you cannot see the isolation movements aswell, especially regarding the stomach hips, chest and arms yes it does not matter to much how well defined you are. But stomach youcannot see well if not
@tammipuu I always thought belly dancers were supposed to have more "meat" so they could look better doing this type of dance. I am personally athletically built and although I have some moves, I just think it looks better with thicker women.
It seems there is a big misunderstanding of my comment. I am not talking about skinny girls who cant gain weight physically. my comment goes out to all Karl Lagerfelds, who post comments like "that little belly definitley has to go" or "bellydance shouldnt be allowed for fat ppl". I do NOT hate or dislike ppl for their bodys, I dislike those who cant accept others as they are. My attitude is: as long as someone is healthy and happy with the own body, its al
ah!!! i'd thought i just found another person named zoe jakes who also danced trial belly dance! she looks totally different from other videos... i still love her wonderful moves but i do wonder how come she's much fatter now. oh this is really tragic to me since i love her dance so much... don't know what to say.
Any one who says this women is fat is crazy. u NEED to be a bit wobbly in tribal or any belly dance style otherwise the moves dont look right. Imagine this being done by a super skinny type - it just wouldnt look right. I love RB and this style of dance. i think zoe is great but sometimes I think she goes too far with the body popping - it looks more like robotic street dance then. As for the costumes - they are amazing ! id kill to dress like this!! zoe and rachel are both amazing dancers !
The real song's name is ISMAAOUNI from Upper Egyptian Essemble, but it way, it doesn't look like Zoe Jakes. I've seen her more performatic and less fat than now.
... and under no circumstance was I saying that I think Zoe is plus sized. I wonder what is wrong with the men and women who would view somebody like Zoe as plus sized.
It's not much in the way of venom. You seem waaay more angry about the situation than I am. I think the thing that had bothered me here really was the fact that SabreToothGirl and your comments were so highly voted on. And both seeming incredibly derogatory to thin women. Which in reality I know you can't do anything about. Growing up I was not only verbally harassed I was also physically harassed because of my size.
Not all individuals that are small are anorexic. Some of us physically can not gain weight no matter what we do. And calling scrawny girls "anorexia spoilt f***ers" is no better calling heavy girls any number of disgusting names.
Früher waren alle Bautänzerinnen FETT , wie wir es heute nennen würden. Zoe ist im Vergleich dazu echt mager. There were times when belly dancer had to be FAT as we would call it nowadays. Compared to these standards Zoe is skinny.
Love it. Been in love with egyptian culture for a long time. It's your eyes which makes the dance beautiful. they are windows to your soul. Just hooked for a while. Keep it up. Nice to see artists doing their thing!
bravo, j'aime beaucoup milles mercis. from France

I've seen a few of her newer solos that include pops and locks which really is a fusion of dances. I thought that that was genius!
Thanks for posting videos like these!!!
I actually find it very inspirational to see her a bit heavier. She is fantastic and it does not take away from the dancing. It makes me feel better about myself and having an extra 15 pounds. Zoe is an absolutely gorgeous, talented dancer! Definitely one of my fav tribal fusionists. :)
NICE MUSIC INDEED, AND WOW VERRY NICE, ,LUV IT,

Ooooh, she was so young! and so cute! *.* I love Zoe Jakes.
Wow, wonderful.
te amooo para siempre!! grande diosa!!!
I love this girl!!
:) in this vid she doesn't have her tattoo yet as i see.. i'm in love with her.. she is the most amazing dancer ever!!
@MandaJeanMusic
Thank you for saying that! I am a skinny chick who often thought you needed to be curvier for belly dance.
Man she sure has her stops down! Everything is so...crisp.
es tan bonita..... y baila tan bello...

nice work

Beautiful ❤

beautiful arms!
Mardi Love is also a bit thick, but she's still a beautiful and rocking belly dancer XD
Size has nothing to do with it, if anything it enhances it.
@fiby13 this is Zoe Jakes. This is her before she was what she is today.
@tammipuu She isnt fat, she's definitely in shape. If someone says that, they are probably confusing her somewhat thick waist for being fat. She is simply hardened with muscle in her torso section, because this type of dance requires that.

OMG!!!! I LUV MISS ZOE! My dad wants to Marry her! lol

Demasiado bueno!!! Géniale
Shiiiiiiiiit it FEELS like it requires magic!
the first song is ISMAOUNI BY THE UPPER EGYPT ENSEMBLE. I don't know the name of the last song but I believe it from the same artist :D
This is when she used to smile in the her dances...now she's so grim!
ohhhhh so... different well... I love her but now more :D
I laugh when people say "Oh i could never do that"...simply notice how most bellydancers have covered legs, its all in the legs so yea it takes some natural skill to make it look as beautiful as this but it's not some magic
wow, what year is this from? She looks so young here. And she's much thinner now. I think I prefer the curvier Zoe though:)
completely agree with your comment :)
¡¡Mer encantó!!!
I think belly dancers shouldn't be that thin...her body shape in this vid is totally fine...amazing dancer btw.
:) Bellydance doesn't require curves! It's for people of all shapes and sizes!
Zoeeee!!!
This is hilarious. In a more recent video on here people are criticising her for being too thin, and in this one they're criticising because she's curvier. aguante muy bueno

lol! true that!
cool
@velvetsnape
Mazamir Holiday by The Upper Egypt Ensemble
it is quite old. i believe it's from before she became a part of bdss!
what year is this from?
the picture is stretched =( shame.....but she dances very cool
This is such an old video, but it's still one of my favorites, if not THE favorite.
P.S. Isn't the song "Ismaouni?"
it's in the first seconds of the film
Belly dance is not about discrimination, it's about appreciation! : )
@chaiyah12 Indeed, I'd love to dress like this! I agree with the robotic street dance thing, exactly what I was thinking.
music information is listed the first few seconds of the video
is this old?
esma3ouni - warda :-)
Je préfère de loin la danseuse Sadie MARQUARDT, beaucoup plus sensuel !
SHE IS NOT ZOE... WHERE IS THE TATTOO ? ( ARMS AND BODY )
@SabreToothGirl right
Zeeen attitude huuummm
Why was the wall awesome enough to cut away too?ò_ó
to make my point of view clearer, pls read the comment I posted yesterday, my top comment wasnt intended to insult thin women
@tammipuu I always thought belly dancers were supposed to have more "meat" so they could look better doing this type of dance. I am personally athletically built and although I have some moves, I just think it looks better with thicker women.

She is Zoe but this video is very old, she didn't have the belly tattoo here yet.
Fucking beautiful!!
ah!!! i'd thought i just found another person named zoe jakes who also danced trial belly dance! she looks totally different from other videos... i still love her wonderful moves but i do wonder how come she's much fatter now. oh this is really tragic to me since i love her dance so much... don't know what to say.
She's actually not any thicker than any other videos she's in, it just has the video stretched out so it makes her look shorter and plumper.
Any one who says this women is fat is crazy. u NEED to be a bit wobbly in tribal or any belly dance style otherwise the moves dont look right. The real song's name is ISMAAOUNI from Upper Egyptian Essemble, but it way, it doesn't look like Zoe Jakes. I've seen her more performatic and less fat than now.
She looks kind a different. I've barely recognized her.
SNAKE DANCING
@molarmama5 This is not the kind of belly dance you see in Egypt so you can't compare them.
Era una niña!!!!
I've no idea what people are talking about.. she's tiny here. she's even tinier now. people are crazy
She´s not Zoe Jakes!
... and under no circumstance was I saying that I think Zoe is plus sized. I wonder what is wrong with the men and women who would view somebody like Zoe as plus sized.
wow..she has a normal body type now..waay to skinny before ..i like this
I personally never saw a bellydancer I would call fat . Most people don't see anymore what is normal...
It's not much in the way of venom. You seem waaay more angry about the situation than I am. I think the thing that had bothered me here really was the fact that SabreToothGirl and your comments were so highly voted on. And both seeming incredibly derogatory to thin women. I can't imagine how somebody could say she's fat. Don't they see it's a video mistake?
Not all individuals that are small are anorexic. Some of us physically can not gain weight no matter what we do. And calling scrawny girls "anorexia spoilt f***ers" is no better calling heavy girls any number of disgusting names.
i really prefer rachel brice!!
Früher waren alle Bautänzerinnen FETT , wie wir es heute nennen würden. Zoe ist im Vergleich dazu echt mager.
There were times when belly dancer had to be FAT as we would call it nowadays. Compared to these standards Zoe is skinny.
