@@TheSkuns I recently saw an interview with a former mafioso. He said that nobody who is successful sleeps in. That always stuck with me and you could be getting up an hour early right now and hit the woodshed if you really want it!?! I wanted to change my technique radically. Everybody said I couldn’t do it but I did that sort of thing… I woke up early… Stayed up late… And I actually did it at aLate stage in life. Well in my musical life that is! @@streetwiseguitar5113 man that's so true. I'm 54. I promised myself I'd practise in the mornings before work and again before bed, but it tales real discipline. No other way. You guys inspire me to keep trying.
I had a lesson with Josh in 2021. I am still cleaning the sh*t out of my pants. He was incredibly insightful, humble, patient, kind and smart. He showed no signs of being from another galaxy in fact, he does a great job of pretending he is a mere mortal. 🤣

They are going to be some really great upcoming videos with Contant you won't get anywhere else but here!
Josh is a freaking monster. He was blessed with his father being a pro musician as his personal teacher and encouraging/inspiring him from such an early age, but man, not everybody could reach the level of this guy, who also seems to be a very down to earth man. I believe is only a matter of time for him to reach the level of recognition (tons of) he deserves.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch this! I hope you subscribe and check out some of the other very cool interviews and lessons I’ve done in the past I think you’ll really like them!
He certainly is on his way to big! I thought Kurt Rosenwinkel is the top of the list, but Josh already raised the bar. With him the guitar can play any line a sax or whatever can.
Not sure. Thanks for asking. I’ve recently discovered you when I came across your breakdown of Matteo’s Giant Steps solo. I’m a new subscriber to your channel. I look forward to getting to know you better
Imagine having a dad like he has. I don't know this man, and I don't know what kind of human he is (his dad) but one thing comes to my mind: dedication! I mean that would be (probably) coolest thing that could happen to me when I was a little boy. I liked music and playing with my father who would teach me that would meant a world to me. Unfortunately my father didn't care and I was always a shy person and a thought of me playing for someone brought panic attacks on me. Young boys need role-models, someone who they can look up to and that's a father's "job" in my opinion. I know mother can be inspirational also but ... it's a different kind of bond with your mother. Josh is an inspiration now for me. He could probably do it by himself but this is a whole other world to have someone that will give you this push in a life (especially when you start to grow up). Josh deserves all the best but I think his father did a great job and deserves a recognition.
Excellent. What an erudite young man. I've only recently gotten into TH-cam and you've not onyl reintroduced me to Holdsworth but guided me towards today's players like Josh, Matteo Mancuso, and Thomas Dawson. It never ceases to amaze me just how endless the variety of authentic sounds different souls can create on our instrument. Truly invigorates my outlook to playing - all day every day.
What a fantastic and positive comment, Justin! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch these videos and support my channel. It’s guys like you can make it all worth it!
What a relief to discover that he is actually a human who had to put his time in and work hard. And what a modest, relatable, and likable guy. I knew he was brilliant, but it means so much more that he’s not a jerk about. Cheers to you, young man; you deserve your exceptional talents!

Very awesome and informative interview! I think my favorite part is the look on Josh's face when he is asked to respond to guitarists who seek his level of skill right after an entire interview detailing his dedication and lifetime of study to guitar. His level of skill isn't just talent, it's dedication, and I think the best take away is that with discipline and dedication anyone can make significant improvements to their playing. That being said, I know the vast majority will never reach his level of skill. The man is a savant.

It’s a Pleasure to hear you describe your approach. You’re a great communicator @Joshmeader. Also hats off to the interviewer, a very interesting line of questions.
His superb left hand! I think it is very important to be able to lie the fore finger down on its edge, finger curved. This gives the ability to be able to spread the hand span nice and wide. I see it in all the great players today.

Professional athletes in the U.S, as well as around the globe, should take a lesson in humility and decorum from young artists at the very top of their game(s) like this young man and Matteo Mancuso, among others, and apply it to their pre and post game interviews. These young men let their music do the talking (in a HUGE way) and appear genuinely appreciative that others recognize their unbelievable talent and enjoy their playing. Very refreshing. Maybe their is actually hope for the youth of today.
I think nearly everybody that I have interviewed here, which includes people who are not “as athletically gifted,” have such a huge amount of humility, even though they have achieved excellent. I was a fan of saxist Orenet Coleman when I was meader's age. Coleman later became a rare pulister prize winning jazz composer. But, my favorite was the Jazz album where Coleman solos on one side. Only once since then have I heard any of Coleman's beautiful compositions from that era played. If anyone could, perhaps meader.

Great and Fantastic Guitar Playing and may I say that it’s in the left hand. most people have strong right hand fingers but lazy and weak left hand fingers notice that picking with the right hand is minimal but the left hand is 10 times faster than the right hand picking. This guy truly is amazing, and I was sure he'd started at a very young age. I'd say it's almost impossible to reach that level of facility playing such demanding music if you start after adolescence has kicked in.
Well… First of all thank you so much for watching! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. Second of all, I would almost beg to differ with you. Why? Check out #Shorts videos. That would be a quick way to check out what I have done with my technique. I totally revamped it! I could not even come close to doing any of the shredding stuff. I’m considerably older than Josh. If you put forth the hours and you have a game plan, mentor, and a technique that you know has been pressure tested… You can indeed gain an incredibly high level of facility. If I practiced as much as Josh, there’s no doubt in my mind that I would be able to play with that facility, As I can already play very fast. And I was never able to do anything like that. You might also want to check out my, “some skunk funk” transcription. Let that be proof an inspiration to you that yes you can indeed dramatically and drastically improve your technical facility.
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Thanks for the video! I've been following this guy lately. Him and Matteo Mancuso might have two of the best techniques I've seen in my life. That being said, I beg to differ to your differ ; ) I know it's possible to practice really hard and properly (key word) and achieve an excellent level (I play multiple instruments and have learned them at different times in my life -- I used to be able to shred pretty decently on guitar), but there's a certain facility that people who started very young have. I've seen it over and over. I seriously doubt there are many concert violinists or pianists who started after the age of ten (it'd be interesting to do the research). Maybe what I'm talking about is a very subtle difference, but it's there. It's the ease of playing extremely challenging music and being able to add nuances at a minute level, all while making it look effortless. But maybe I'm just suffering from confirmation bias. It's possible. Luckily, for most of us, music isn't a competition. Cheers!
You know, its a shame guys like josh aren't recognized for their dedication, greatness, and virtuosity. When you see magazine articles filled with the so n so greatest guitarists of all time, like for instance, Jimmy page, or Hendrix, this is just a sad example of commercialism gone wrong at its finest, not to put down those guys in ANY way.

There's nothing wrong with the background music, but the interview itself is the most important part and you don't want to distract from it or play something that makes it hard to hear. Also, it would have helped if he had turned the volume of Josh's responses up more because it's pretty out of balance with the interviewer's talking.
I never could get consistent clean playing and playing fast on three notes per string. I finally gave up realizing the pick gets trapped and messes me up no matter how many years worked on it. I finally figured out to hammer or pull off the last note. My speed went through the roof for the first time in my life. My friends were like how did you get so fast all of a sudden. Zoom sucks. Well maybe I should rephrase that because I don’t have the premium zoom. The one that everybody uses records at a very measly 680 P. If you combine that with an iSight camera from Apple it’s just a total mess. What Josh and I did was we both used our own cameras and he sent me his files and I put it together. They are going to be some really great upcoming videos with Contant you won't get anywhere else but here!
Think you could interview Mateo Mancuso? Man this generation of guitar players is just off the fricking chart.
Working on it!!!!

His damn amazing
He certainly is on his way to big! I thought Kurt Rosenwinkel is the top of the list, but Josh already raised the bar. With him the guitar can play any line a sax or whatever can.
We are blessed in this world to have access to the greatest of guitar players. Josh and Matteo seem to be redefining our craft
For taking the time to watch this Joe! Have you seen the latest video that I posted?
Thanks so much for sharing all of that!!! Please subscribe! It'd be great to have ya!

Very inspired, came across Josh this month as I've been looking for complex music. He has posted some songs and they are amazing. I'm learning bass and got my 2 year old a ukulele and he's already learned how to hold it and pull strings. A great bonding time.

Brilliant interview......hmmmm hour lesson before school from your dad...that would do it all right ! Amazing player
You’re not kidding!
His superb left hand! I think it is very important to be able to lie the fore finger down on its edge, finger curved. This gives the ability to be able to spread the hand span nice and wide. I see it in all the great players today.
there is no secret formula......practice,practice,practice....the right stuff.......start early, be curious and check out all music,read,scales,standards,work,work,work.....am 57,started with 6 and have been practicing daily since the age of 16.......to this day, being a professional guitar player, producer, studio owner, my working day always starts with practicing....
I Love Josh‘s guitarplaying ❤ and his musicality are really very impressive. Hope to see u soon live in Switzerland 🇨🇭👏👏👏👏

Yep - I am one of those who listened to the very end - and it was all worth it. Simple guy, incredible gift, awe inspiring - "Anyone can do it ....." (Hmmnn!) Everyone can be the best versions of themselves - different paths though - learn from the best, put in the time and as the old saying goes: "Wherever Attention goes, Energy flows and the Results show." Keep the dream alive - never give up, until you nail it.

I hope you get a chance to see the other interviews as well! I love doing them so if you have any suggestions of people I could try to reach out to… Let it rip!

So they both said the michael brecker solo was hard to perform. I find that easy to believe. But what I find equally impressive is the memorization! That's a lot of material to learn.

How to become a virtuoso? Have your virtuoso dad give you lessons 1 hour a day for seven years for starters.

That being said, I beg to differ to your differ ; )
I know it's possible to practice really hard and properly (key word) and achieve an excellent level (I play multiple instruments and have learned them at different times in my life -- I used to be able to shred pretty decently on guitar), but there's a certain facility that people who started very young have.

I thought I was so smart after years and having the idea to play that way. I wasnt as smart as I thought lol.

Sure you were, you were exactly that smart - you came up with it yourself! The fact that you didn't invent it doesn't detract from your personal discovery of it.
Fantastic interview. What a talent eh?
OMG YES!!!!
I feel like you were inturrupting him sometimes right after he started answering your question. However this was mainly noticeable in the first 5 or 10 minutes, maybe you were just nervous / excited. Nevertheless, great interview! Thanks for posting.

The part about the picking technique was an eye opener for me. I will try this out. I wonder which Jason Becker video he referred to. Does anyone know this? I dod not know Jason used this technique too...

I know, I never saw Becker mention that...
But I've seen a great EVH tutorial where the guy did this...it looked like Eddie's hand and sounded like his pick attack too...I'm GUESSING EVH did it too.
@@jfo3000 Yes, I just recently learned that this was one of the tricks in EVH's bag (from Jude Gold's latest and absolutely fantastic podcast "No Guitar is Safe" tribute and lesson episode on EVH...the whole podcase series is highly recommendable!)
Bona, Via, Satch, and the others must really be impressed with this guy, maybe we’ll see some of their guitars on Reverb🤣🤣🎸🇨🇦
Who knows? I couldn't imagine those OGs not diggin' Josh!!!!!

My favourite guitarist.
Look for the video that I did called, "play like Josh."
The video is great. Did you use a specific video chat app because it looks way better than zoom
Zoom sucks. Well maybe I should rephrase that because I don’t have the premium zoom. The one that everybody uses records at a very measly 680 P. If you combine that with an iSight camera from Apple it’s just a total mess. What Josh and I did was we both used our own cameras and he sent me his files and I put it together. Some people who don’t have a camera means that we are relegated to using zoom. If you look at my video of me and Aubrey king (my most recent interview), you can see that that’s what we did and it looks really good. Thank you for liking the video. I hope you subscribe to the channel as I have a new interview coming up tomorrow. Not to mention some instructions which I need to get back to doing. Thanks for supporting!

Which app is good for recording the rhythm chords?
I have been using Logic for years. You can record everything on it.
