Albertinho I agree, she needs a disco album to try and find a calling. 😂 I see don’t see what you people see in her. She has a voice, the music isn’t bad, but her band makes her bearable to listen to for me. Her guitar skill is nil compared to the musicians I listen to. I would cross the street to hear and see her band...
This woman is fascinating. At one moment you might dismiss her has merely arty but there's no denying her skill at guitar, voice and melody. I used to say what was unique about John Bonham is that he would play straight where most guys would fill and would fill where most guys would play straight. I feel the same way about AC/SV. When you think she's going to do melody, she's atonal; when you think she's going to do atonal, she gives you an achingly cactchy melody.
Kay Zee 😂😆🤣 At guitar skill. I got old on Van Halen, Angus Young, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck, Gerry Beckley, Steve Howe, Steely Dan... This music makes me feel how desperate people are for REAL musicians again. Call me old, I don’t care. Her band is good, but this would barely pass as “techno pop” in my day. Even the Sex Pistols were better musically. 😂
@@p42uynot59 you know, back in my day, we used to bang sticks and drums and shout ooga-booga. That was REAL music, not some whimmy-whammy on some paddles. I wish we could return to those days
@@p42uynot59 look into her other stuff. She is the real deal. This isn’t a guitar song obviously. She’s as good as most of those guys, and a riff machine. I grew up on all those people, if she had come out 20 years earlier she would be massive. Now she isn’t for everybody and doesn’t try to be. This is her most pop song, with very little guitar work so I assume the original comment was based on her body of work. Though this song may sound like a pop tune it should be noted that it is part of an honest to god concept album. Anyway, I think you are missing out if you dismiss her. Especially based on the artists you listed.
@@p42uynot59 as someone who's been playing guitar for 15 years, ukulele for 2, piano for 3, and drums for 1, I can tell by the way she plays and what she chooses to play that she is definently skilled. You're comparing her to a different time that had a different style. This song is a bad example of her skills, but you underestimate her. The greats from the era you comment on where great because there was no one like them. Nowadays, skilled guitarist are more common. It's not all about shredding a bunch of hammer ons and pull offs.
@@p42uynot59 you do realize that being a good guitar player isn’t just being able to play hard music right? It’s knowing that simplicity is just as good. It’s knowing that a song needs melody and noise at the same time.
I wasn't aware of the show she was putting on for festivals, I only knew that she was gonna put a band together, but I never imagined that Toko would return and that this goddamn beautiful song would be rendered this way. This is such a genius take on a sad song. The fisrt time I heard it live (also my first time seeing her) I swear I was crying and singing my heart out. I couldn't believe it, I died that night. Def in my St. Vincent top five.
If I could choose to be any musician, I would be Annie! She has it all: talent in spades, THE voice, intellegence, irreverence; yet she's obviously compassionate, respectful and genuinely a good soul.
I am 31 years old and I have a list for truly special songs that mean an incredible amount to me. There are only 3 songs on this list so far. This is one of them.
Sanna Kallio what the FUCK are you talking about??!! Even when she's with the band she's playing the same music that she wrote and composed! You're acting as if when she's with the band she's playing other music. You're clearly a dumbass so shut the fuck up.
Sanna Kallio It's fine if you prefer Annie solo, but if you didn't know, Annie has always played with a live band under St. Vincent. For MASSEDUCTION, Annie said she wanted to "challenge" herself by playing solo and she did that with the Fear the Future Tour. But ultimately, she knew she was going back to having her band. There's no way I can't handle women playing solo - she was very good solo. I just prefer the band and I think she looks more comfortable when they're with her too. A live band is usually better than using a backing track anyway. Just compare Fear the Future tour with her incredible Coachella performance - one was great, the other was amazing. What about the fantastic performances we got from the self-titled album - amazing stuff and with her band. Cause even with a live band Annie still stands out as a fucking talented badass. So I could definitely handle powerful women. So stop posting shit under my comment you troll.
It`s said that a gap between your two front teeth is a sign for, Luck dontcha know ? I used to have teeth like that until someone punched them out ..... maybe not so lucky after all aye
I saw her live recently, and she had it smeared within a few songs. She presses her mouth into the mic. When they came back out for the encore, she had wiped it off.
Shylene Sky Camacho I saw Courtney Barnett chewing the microphone at London last Sunday. No lipstick though. Later. St Vincent performed at the same festival. Towards the end the smear was nearly down to her chin and there were drips. What was originally accidental became a performance feature I think. She looks more feral.
Fuck....... Ppl don't realise how good she is on that gat. She's the type of iconic that will only get recognised wen she dies. I'd sing anything she asked me to
Cabrit I know, I was sad FYF got axed too (Annie & Florence at the same show). If she really doesn't come back out this way until next year or later, I'll be more and more tempted to fly up to Portland to see Annie during Florence's show in Sept.
Yeah, Florence and Annie on the same bill would be a great show. I'm a bit surprised that Annie is opening some of Florence's shows, but they're both great. I'm hoping to see Florence at the Hollywood Bowl this year.
This version is everything! Loved this live
This song has legendary epic status written all over it - and needless to say her voice is overwhemingly beautiful
This is a very good twist for the song THANK YOU ANNIE
The masked musicians with Trump/Boris Johnson looking hair add a layer too.
Her artistry / eerie voice / musical talent remind me of Thom Yorke.
@piteusx8440 Radiohead is my favorite band but she reminds me more of David Bowie, Beck or Joshua Homme.
That guitar though! Love this version!
St Vincent needs a disco album. Now.
Glam album ("Daddy's Home") coming out 5/14/21. Can't wait.
Its coming!

St Vincent, what a song, just brilliant, hope to see you here in ireland during the summer!!!
Even sounds great live . Been playing this song all day , even more of a fan now.
Her guitar always sonunds crazy good
This song is the spiritual sequel to dancing on my own by robyn and nobody can change my mind
I like this comment
I just rewatched Robyn's song 10 minutes ago (live at Nobel party 2010), and thru a song or two ended up here. And then I saw your comment :)
I agree but I also feel Lorde's Green Light also fits as a sequel, maybe this can make a trilogy lol

Her mastery of the guitar. It’s so awesome
I love this song and this performance

her voice is so poetic
WHEN SHE DID THE OUTRO LYRIC IN GUITAR AT 2:06!! SHE DID THAT
Alex Gardner it was so good ;w;
Yes. When she did that, she did that. Great observation.
I’m gonna see her live in November and the prospect of seeing this song live makes me so giddy 😭 i still can’t believe i will experience it

Magical. Love the whole presentation. Women harmonizing together makes me feel the power.
i love this version. killer performance! such a fun song
Annie you really are a special talent!
Annie Clark's live performances are phenomenal.
powerful, she really is captivating !
Really beautiful and talented woman.
Fabulous music. Fabulous musicians, fabulous effort. Rock and roll who says there is no Heaven. Bliss.
A timeless piece of pop music - absolute genius!
appreciating the fast slow disco even more after hearing the slow slow disco version, gives it so much more depth
Just saw her last Friday. Amazing. Super thankful to have seen this tour.
I want to cry too like her
Talent, pure and simple
If I could choose to be any musician, I would be Annie! She has it all: talent in spades, THE voice, intellegence, irreverence; yet she's obviously compassionate, respectful and genuinely a good soul.
We were there this night and her and the entire band were just awesome.
She's absolutely gorgeous and multitalented
What they worked with that drum kick is so satisfying on the ear

So sweet - weeping eyes are all red.
Loving this song all the way down here in Rio!
I want to see more Masseduction B sides!!!!! Loved this
But I guess this isn't a b side but rather a different version of Slow Disco. Rumor has it Taylor Swift,of all people suggested it.
Awesome. Seen here live twice now and never disappoints.
I need a 15 min shred from this woman. She’s so skillful but it always feels like she’s holding back the magic
I'm so so glad the full band is back with her!! Annie seems so much more confident when she plays with them.

and ugly. like her guitar. talented - yes. too much fuzz - yes.
That's intentional. She's said before that she's less interested in guitars sounding like guitars and making textures and sounds.

I loved it when they covered Big Black at the Bowrey. This too is provocative and emotional.
This is sooo cool!

I love this song! My only complaint, wish it was longer!!
its not a st vincent performance if annie doesn't smear her lipstick
LMAO so true
Does she purposely smear it or is it from singing ?
