Egr cooler cleaning with oven cleaner

Great video. I am doing intake manifold cleaning tomorrow on my Mazda skyactiv. so all components will be getting a blast from Mr Muscle

Once you have the manifold off give it a fast scrape and coat it it Mr Muscle while cleaning the intake ports. Work on 1 cylinder at at time, with both valves closed. Scrape & hoover first, then you will need to use compressed air in by the valves. It works out quite fast & clean like this 👍👍

The auld durty diesels are a houre for the soot build-up, not really surprising when you think about what comes out the tailpipe. I've used oven cleaner a good few times myself to clear soot up, once there's nothing that can be damaged it's surprising what it does, anything that's left afterwards can usually be removed with little pipe cleaners and painters panelwipe/degreaser, if you needed to get everything off. Bit time consuming but it works. Was surprised to hear a fellow paddy! Cheers and take er handy 👍

I usually use tfr what you put in steam cleaners
Then after it has soaked in a buckeye we put the pressure washer on full heat I've used Mr muscle but only on turbos and to be honest it works better when the turbo is hot but everyone has there own method Peter good vids keep them coming

I believe that EGR cooler is from an Audi. Is it entirely made from stainless steel, rather than aluminium, like some other EGR coolers? That might explain why oven can be used.
I also believe that some of the blockage is caused by crystals of AdBlue. These may need some other solvent to remove them or just mechanical cleaning.

Hey Roger, this cooler is from a 2016 Skoda Octavia 1.6 diesel. It is all stainless steel & yes the blockage mostly happens due to Adblu residue buildup. I was given instruction to refit the cooler after turbo replacement & just thought I’d try oven cleaner just to lessen the chances of being caught with it being blocked 😬😬

I've seen people use that stuff to free up the turbo vains on ford mondeo. Drilled a small hole in casing, sprayed it in and then just screwed small bolt in to hole. Appeared to work there so why not here I guess

I have a p200200 code on my audi a5 b9. They ask for £1000 +, will give this a try. Only downside is a need a whole day to take it out. Thanks, this video gave me confidence I can clean it as I was cleaning my vw pd egr

No comeback yet but wasn’t fixing any issue with the egr cooler, I was changing a turbocharger & cleaned the cooler just as preventative maintenance 😉😉👍

Next time you do this I think it would be cool to see the live data before and after. P.S. I wonder if this would clean nice in a good ultrasonic cleaner for 2 hours.

Wonderful. Is it a good idea to blowing air into holes after aplying Mr.Muscle or carb cleaner ? Or will blowing air damage the egr cooler ?

The egr cooler itself is made from steel so in my opinion air pressure or carb cleaner shouldn’t bother it in the least. I would avoid sticking anything hard into the holes though. They are not round all the way through 😉

Im messing with a DD15 Daimler engine, am trying several things, steel pistons, useng a crock pot, heating the dip, trying, Simple Green, Berrymans , TSP, and will try yhe def fluid, something will work im sure.

@@kennedysgarage3281 what I did find is, Simple Green all purpose, and Goo Gone Oven Cleaner, SG in a crock pot, full strength, GG straight undiluted in a cut off milk jug, cut the carbon very well, except when it was grey, burnt yo pure charcoal/carbon, then i needed to scrap it off, came off in powder form.
The Daimler pistons are steel, and the skirts below the oil rings are coated with a paint? probably a Teflon type for extra friction reduction if they slap, the SG and the GG both eat that costing, experimented on a garbage piston first, so when I dipped I put the piston in and carefully filled the container.
Then I also cleaned the EGR Cooler, it was gross, even after pressure washing it, it is stainless steel so I wasn't concerned using it,
But people reading this, if cleaning aluminum, be very cautious as the acid will etch/dissolve the soft metals,
The carb, mystery oil, EGR, valve carbon cleaners are garbage, snake oil, they do cut the soft stuff, but not the Semi hard stuff.

it looks like it is lekaing coolant in the first place, or there are some major issues in the engine because this amount of sooth is not normal. i have changed mine after 160kkm due to the coolant lekkage, but it was in much better state than this one. the valve itself was competely clean.

Audi a6 c7 has this part in a position the it's an engine out job. Watched a guy do this on TH-cam without removing engine and it looked a complete pig, just as hard, . 3k main dealer. 1k for a local by the looks. I would be interested in your opinion. Car's fault light has gone back off now. It has only has 100k km should I drive the ring out it and use some additive?

The egr cooler on those block very regularly & driving it hard or additive’s won’t help. It can be changed with the engine in place but will take all day to do it & isn’t for the faint hearted. Dealers can be very expensive to do it. Watch this it might help 🤞🤞

Based in longford was thinking to bring to your garage but i done my self without Dismantling egr cooler, follow the jimmy instructions 🤣 first pour the oven clear throw into adblue point audi a6 then start the car on 2000rpm after pour deionized water to clean all inside then after pour dpf cleaner wynns about 4liter 3 into adblue point and 1liter by pressure gun leave about 5 hours and regen , all good 50000km no p200200 but i know it will be back again as all new audis have this shit so common

It actually is a very common issue & quite expensive to do. I haven’t ever tried that on the car but have been talking to Jimmy Riley about it and he said that it does work, so I must try the next one. Well done on the repair mate 💪💪💪

Bro which oven clear throw you’ve used ? I have done all Jimmy stuff ,loads of crap comes out of my exhaust,but can clear the engine management light with my Otofix D1 kite scanner .Few videos talking about adblue cristallisation.Will change the dpf pressure sensor to come tomorrow and see how it goes .As my car doesn’t seems to regen after a 100 miles trip to Brighton

I'm looking at a complete strip down and clean of the EGR system and intake manifold of my 2.2D Skyactiv next weekend. I'm considering the EGR cooler will be the most difficult to clean, as I won't be able to access the channels within. Planning to soak it in Wynn's off-car DPF cleaner overnight, then flush it through with a pressure washer. What do you think? Thanks.

The cooler is too integrated to blank of on this model, you could possibly do an egr delete but not something that I like doing myself 😉👍👍

See how these tubes are stamped at the factory.I cut open the exhaust coolers to find out what these tubes look like, mechanical cleaning is eliminated only by chemicals.
