Thank you thank you thank you thank you my friend I really got what is going on with the Bebop scale enclosures the way you explained it and the time you took to really show how it's done thank you thank you thank you so much now I'm going to do is continue to practice what you showed me the other guys they kind of talk a lot you know they go so fast I don't really break it down like you did thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you I can go on thank you thank you so much
Yooo!!!! This is by leaps and bounds the best bebop encloaure video on TH-cam!!! I never use grandpa lingo like " leaps amd bounds" so you know this sh*#^ is for real!!! All other videoa just say what it is and have u practice it. There isnt a video like thia qhere i can sound like Babu Art Tatum from just whata presented. Damn goos job man!!!
I started listening to your podcast last week from the 1st episode. I'm hooked, you are excellent at demystifying things and I don't know how you do it but, your explanations just in audio are great and to the point. Keep it on..
Very good podcast! Amazing information, the precise quantity, the application in context and how to practice it. Thanks a lot for sharing the knowlege🙌🏾
Thanks for pointing the way to a solid foundation (everyone would love to run before they can crawl--it's natural--but let's master that crawl first!) 🙃
Outstanding, Thanks. I am a pretty much ear trained accordion player. This, if I can master it, would certainly take me to another level. I tried a couple of times to download the practice materials with no joy. Are they no longer available or do I have to do more than just request it with my email address?
This is super useful info. Would it help quite a bit for fluency and fingering to also practice Hanon excercises in all keys as part of a regular warmup? Thanks again, and i know im late to this video with my question
Glad you enjoyed the video! I would not recommend Hanon for jazz piano practice - instead if you want to work on technique, I would suggest working on technique within a jazz context like a transcription or a bebop melody. The only exercise that I would ever suggest for technique would be major and minor scales.
Great video !!! I have been looking for this for so long time !!!! Just a question: Here you are using triads as a reference, but how it would sound, and how it would be referencing Maj7 chords ( as well dominantth and m7) ?
there is no universal rule for that, as far as i know. generally, use the scale tone above (whether it's a half step or whole step). but you can always use your ear- if you prefer one or the other, go with that.
Hi Zac: thanks for the question, I would echo @iloverumi’s answer here. If you use the scale tone above that may be a half step or while above depending on what the note is that you’re enclosing. For ex if you’re enclosing an E on a Cmaj7, a scale tone above would be F (a half step). But if you’re enclosing a G on a Cmaj7, a scale tone above would be an A (a whole step). Hope this helps!
Hi @August jazz: thanks for the question. Altered enclosures would work in a similar way - just have to remember that the altered extensions now become your chord tones that you will be enclosing! We go into much more depth about this in our main course curriculum. Visit the website to sign up!
Waoh this is the most basic and super excellent bebob enclosure lesson have seen.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful !!! In Bulgaria now is spring !
That is what I was looking for since 11 years. Thank you!!!

Thanks for watching, Rolfi!
Enclosures are very useful for bebop. I'm using enclosure to keep my dogs from bringing me toys when I'm practicing. Just kidding, great lesson!
great lesson
Happy to hear that, thanks @iloverumi!

Amazing thank you first time I find something really helpful about bebop
Awesome, so happy to hear that, Richard!
How do you know when to start the enclosure a tone above or a semitone above?
there is no universal rule for that, as far as i know. generally, use the scale tone above (whether it's a half step or whole step). but you can always use your ear- if you prefer one or the other, go with that.

How about enclosure on altered chords? Thank you

@@jazzpianoschool thanks
No mention of timing. No click. Both would’ve helped. The chord tones should fall on strong beats
Chord tones on strong beats - I can’t emphasize how important this is! Thanks for the comment!
