I was checking out that Benson Reverb unit on their page yesterday. What a great Reverb tone, I wanted it so bad. But they wouldn't sell me one and I couldn't find one. Then by this morning I remembered I don't really care that much for reverb, and I would probably use it once or twice, TOPS! And there it would be sitting on top of an amp, mocking me.

My strategy is to wait-out the first year. I was so happy to get my Revstar and SE Silver Sky after the initial hype subsided. Some other models I just stopped thinking about after 90- ish days.
It's cool you talked that guy into not selling his dad's guitar!! That's a big part of the reasons I watch you guys and subscribed to the channel because you've been through stuff and know the feeling when you let something like that go and kick yourself for selling it or getting raped by a shop that knew what you had and took advantage of you!!!! I'm really hoping to get down there and check out your shop!! I'm looking for a guitar now actually, but I have to hold off for awhile because of my health!! Which really sucks for now, but that's the card's I have to play!! Keep rockin and doing the right thing!!!! Love you guys!!
When Jonathan said, “sometimes I upgrade… and I’m disappointed” that resonated with me. I think in the gear head communities and gear-related TH-cam channels there’s this expectation that you’re supposed to want to upgrade and if you don’t, you’re lying to yourself. If you have an Epiphone, you’re never going to be happy until you get a Gibson headstock. If you have a Les Paul Tribute, you’re not going to be happy until you get a Les Paul with binding. Same with the Squier to Fender MIM to Fender USA to Fender Custom Shop pipeline. Instead of always focusing on what’s better, it’s more gratifying to focus on finding what’s best for /you./ My number 1 guitar is Korean made. All of the gear channels and boards would have me think I won’t truly be happy and reach self-actualization until I get a USA model or a custom shop. But… there’s no “higher end” version of the BMG Arielle, and I don’t know of any Custom Shops that can build something with the specs I’ve grown to love. Like Baxter said, “why do we hate the guitars we love?” - there’s always one thing you would do differently. If I could, I would love to try a satin neck, but my guitar has a thick gloss finish. There’s always something you would change because human nature is to always seek the “better” thing.
Is $800 to much as an upgrade? I shouldn't say upgrade cause I only own 2 actual electric guitars a L P studio and a deluxe plus Strat, both 90's models. I upgraded a lot of parts on my studio through the yrs. And when I did these upgrades I made deals with the seller getting things cheaper by buying more at once. I spend over a grand building my pedalboard. And even got a few extra pedals cause wanted to try them. My problem is I don't sell anything. Got my board and about 40 extra pedals. Got 5 guitars electrics, acoustics and a bass. Got about 14 amps, 2 keyboards, P A. All this was free or so cheap I couldn't pass it up. But G A S is done. I look but don't feel no need to get anything else until I REALLY need it.
I sold my Helix Floor and bought Jon’s because I had a Stomp, sold it for the floor model, missed using my pedals with the Helix Stomp. I am pretty invested in the Helix ecosystem and wanted to stay in that realm, but also missed using my other pedals! I use the Helix for several applications; worship, electric shows (normally use acoustic), bass gigs. Save me a ton of room, and money. We all get gas. If it inspires you to create and you can afford it, it’s worth it.
Gear lust happens to the best of us. I definitely have too many basses, I really need three, maybe four for various kinds of music and venues. I had twelve basses, I sold four. Eight is still too many but there are two I will never sell including my '78 Ric 4001 and G&L CLF L-2000. Good subject, thanks guys!
My GAS is fueled by the boredom of the modern world. Now I have to much stuff and maintenance is a constant issue. New strings, amps in the shop. I want to get rid of some stuff now.
I used to want to have as many as possible, but now I want as nice as possible. I'd much rather have a CS Gibson or Fender than 3 core production models. Same with amps. I just bought a Benson Vinny Reverb combo. It was expensive as hell to get to Canada, but well worth it. Next will be a Two Rock. It's cheaper to buy nice gear once in a than it is to buy cheap gear all the time.
That's the way to go. Unless you can get top notch gear for crazy cheap prices like I do and the hunt is far me valuable and exciting plus there's no buyers remorse from crazy dollars being gone 😂
@@AuntAlnico4 Vintage gear has always inspired me more than the technically better custom shop sort of stuff, and you can find much better deals on vintage if you know what you're looking at when it pops up...that being said, I still have more gear than I actually need, but at least I'm not dropping 3k+ per piece and the vintage stuff is likely to only go up in value if it's collectable

The lust is real for sure 😂. But its more the thought and the process of choosing than actually getting. Im really trying to stick to keith Williams (five watt world) methodology of the "most tone from the least gear". For me, this works and Im playing a lot more now. I still enjoy looking on reverb, but know deep down I know that my collection is now complete.
The gear i lust for takes 2-3 years to pay off, you get better over that time, then when you get your gear you appreciate it even more. Ive traded all my cheaper than 2000$ guitars. The ones in my collection are from 3500-7000. The guitars i currently look at are fender gibson and martin customshops ranging from 5-35 grand.
My wife and I went into my local guitar store (Mom and Dad's in Clarksville TN) yesterday and accidentally walked out with a Gibson SG Gary Clark Jr. I went in there to get a tuning pedal and walked out with a 2400$ guitar. It’s almost done, but it’s been almost done for way too long. It had better live up to my expectations or I might have to have an identity crisis and quit playing guitar! I don’t think I’ve ever waited a year for something I wanted, guitar related, and the wait stopped being fun a while ago! On the upside, I’m sure in the future I’ll get to appreciate how much the experience has matured me, once I get the amp anyway
I am a tone chaser... even considering that, I was lucky enough to be able to hear what I want and keep me out of bringing home a Magnatone on an impulse. I would be happy with a few more pedals if I ran across something I liked. Fulltone, Xotic, TC elect, Dunlop, Mesa Mk III and a Strat. I can hear the difference in top end gear but, is it worth the cost? It a diminishing return.
Sitting here thinking about how I love my SGs, Les Paul, and offsets, but when it comes to playing with folks, it’s always one of the teles or my hard tail strat. It’s really something…
I do a lot of research before purchasing. I want THIS type of guitar or THIS type of pedal. I’ll research it for a month before pulling the trigger on something and it usually does wind up scratching that particular itch for a good long while.
On a more serious note, I am trying to understand how amp modelers work before I buy one. Jonathan mentioned ToneX, and know there are others (like Kemper) out there. Does Casino Guitars carry ToneX, and could I get a demo if I come to the store?
Great points made. We gotta have it. The next best new thing. 🤪🤪🤪 We all deal with it, in an age of so many new things. Especially if they sound like this, or they sound like that. Or just buy this old one. Because if you tweak this, it will sound just like that golden one from the ninety’s. BUT! Sorry you can’t get that old one anymore, because the price tag just tripled. So just keep looking for the next best thing. Hell just forget about playing. And being inspired. Keep looking and searching new gear. 👍😂 Love you guys. Keep ‘em coming.✌️
I’ve re-done my pedalboard so many times. Stopped for a while and recently ended up with 4-5 new ones. All used good deals. Also decided to not sell pedals anymore, so hopefully the pure amount of them will slow me down haha!
I don't care that I have GAS. I no longer smoke meth and am 3 1/2 years sober. I think $20 per week on pedals, amps and guitars is fine. I slowly save up for what I want and am happy with my choices. I have all but 1 pedal that i have purchased, and that one I sent to my mate as a gift. I don't ever consider the value of the item on the resale market as i don't want to sell any thing I have.
I’m going to go play one of the Super 15 amps at a local shop, since I haven’t owned or even played through a Magnatone amp. If I love it, then the next time you guys do a special run like these white ones, I am jumping on it! Because of gear lust!
Currently thinking about trading my Taylor 324ce in on a Martin Custom shop hd28 with an adirondack top. Driving down to Nashville Tennessee to try it out. Bringing the necessary cash but if I could get rid of something I don't play out for something I will play out it's gonna be worth it. The Taylor pickup sounds like trash anyway
At 9:50, the let down in marketing is known as Post Purchase Dissonance. That's when we marketers know that the product will not last long. Hopefully when I get my next amp, I won't get this feeling.
Before buying new gear I always ask myself: can I get the same quality tone with the things that I already have? If yes, I won't buy it. I don't sell my gear if pro-guitarists are also using it, but I sell anything else that I never use. I've done some dumb purchases in the past, but I own only things that bring me joy now: 2 electric guitars, 1 classical, 1 acoustic, 13 pedals, 2 tube amps and 1 tape echo :)
My problem isnt so much I really want a new guitar or amp, I still will but those pass pretty quickly. But if I run into a problem that I cant overcome with what I currently own then I get really obsessed with finding something that can solve the issue
So l’m hearing that l have to be a member to be able to get Tone X profiles? So l can’t buy them without being a member 🤔 Might want to update us on the benefits of membership. It’s odd how we constantly discuss on this channel the financial difficulties of being a part of this musician world. I have found that the time on stage in relation to the rehearsal time, drive time, time planning and arguing with the singer clocks in that l’m making less than minimum wage. But…. Guitars and gear is GREAT. I appreciate you guys and pretty much never miss a post and usually comment and like even within seconds of the start and before you both get off topic. Member? Trying to shake it. I thought I had convinced myself that I don't need any more guitars. Still looking. Also told myself I only need 2, maybe 3 more pedals. We'll see. Recovery is difficult. I do have a deal that I'll only buy things with money I make through music. Doesn't stop me from talking my sons into buying me a cheap pedal for doing their taxes!
I thought I was done with pedals, too. However, on Monday, there was a video on Reverb’s TH-cam channel promoting a new collaboration between Dunlop and Daredevil for a Cry Baby Fuzz Wah. It sounded cool in the video, and they are being sold exclusively through Daredevil Pedals Official Reverb Shop. I’m not really clear whether or not these are all they are going to make or if there will be a regular production run available at other retailers later. So, I decided I would buy one. I don’t know how many were available in all, but there were 27 available when I bought mine Monday morning about an hour after the video was posted there are currently 11 still available. The crazy thing is the style of music I play doesn’t use fuzz or wah.
I've finally started selling guitars I don't play! that's a big deal for me. I'm ready to cull it down to about 4 (was 9, now 8). I can reasonably keep 4 in a good rotation. as much as I like to look at a couple of them, I just don't reach to play them. I've been buying/selling pedals for years, but that is a much less expensive problem :)
I had gear lust BAD for ages. A little over a year ago, I decided that I will not sell any gear. It slowed down my buying a lot. What happened is that I took more time chosing what I bought, and only bought things I truly used. I also ended up buying more big Ticket Items, guitars, amps. Got my first vintage guitar(1968 Gibson Barney Kessel Regular), my first Mesa Boogie(1994 Blue Angel 410). There's a lot more substance to what I buy now.
I want an old purple Marshall ! I want a Tweed deluxe ! I want a les paul custom ! I could have bought all those things if i didn't buy all the other gear i bought to satisfy those gear lusts 😂
We all go through a period of Gear Lust as we develop a a guitarist. Most of us get over it once we find a few "the one's". Thank god I haven't wanted a thing in a couple of years. My marriage is better for it!
Man picking up the Guitar again in 2022 really made dodge a Bullet here. All the cool stuff you can get for cheap or even free is mental. The only Amp I own is A Blackstar Fly 3 lol. Everything else is Plugins for me. They sound stellar, and are affordable. I own Midi Switches and an Expression pedal to control the Pedals in those Plugins. That's probably more than any Guitarist will ever need.
I call it my “throbbing want gland” when I see a piece of gear I just have to have….and usually can’t afford. I have the same affliction with pre-80’s cars and astronomy gear. Maybe there’s some medication I can take for this condition? 🤣
Interesting hearing Jonathan talk about the Tonex. That looked like all the rest of the modelers to me. The way he describes it though, sounds like it's more of a modeler for people who don't want to get lost in a time suck of tweaking settings and just want to play. Great. Now I have to look into one of those...Ha!
I have my guitar collection (8) exactly where i want it. I don't see myself buying anymore guitars and i certainly will not sell anything i have. My small pedal board (5) does the job and i only see myself buying 1 more pedal. I am at peace ✌️ 😅😅
Ive actually really gotten myself in trouble buying gear. Things I've learned was not to chase technology. Ive tried a lot of the modelers. And this may drive people crazy.. They're all kinda similar. So stacking up the multi effects. Eh.. Mistake. Finally just stuck with Helix. Used to chase pedals.. Same as above. your never done buying them. Guitars.. Man.. REALLY HAVE A HARD TIME not buying guitars. I love them. They're all so different. ------------------------------------------ 14 guitars... I gotta just practice... Stop buying guitars.!!!
You have to watch out for gear lust. It starts out with desiring the more reasonably priced stuff, the stuff that's barely within your reach. After awhile, you find yourself lusting after the good stuff, the stuff you know you can't afford. You eventually find a way to obtain your first uber-high-end guitar, or other piece of equipment, and then... Bam!... you're hooked! I'd rather not get into what happens after that. Let's just say it's a place you don't ever want to find yourself going to (unless you have money coming out of every orifice on your body). 😄
I don't have GAS any more. It took 40 years, but I just don't care that much about gear any more. I don't actually have that much stuff either. I'm more worried about playing well and putting on a good show (at the local dive bar). I'll pretty much play anything/everything as long it's not total crap.
I chased gear for years and years until I found what I like. Now I have the opposite problem.. I ONLY want to use my rig that I know works. I only seem to buy backups for the stuff I'm already using, and I rarely buy anything that doesn't come out of necessity these days.. I still have a few choice pedals, and a couple of extra amps/guitars etc.. But Im not foaming at the mouth to try everything the second it drops anymore. Sometimes I miss just having a rabbit hole to go down, like those days haha.
Most of the You Tube guitar and equipment channels thrive on gear lust. Would it be profitable to start a gear lust therapy group? The theme song would be "What Do You Want From Life?" by The Tubes. (Fee Waybill rules)

Fulltone, Xotic, TC elect, Dunlop, Mesa Mk III and a Strat.
I can hear the difference in top end gear but, is it worth the cost? It a diminishing return.
I’m currently in GAS recovery. It’s not going great lol
Flipper ? Like the dolphin?
Or flipper like playing pinball? 🤣😂
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸
Always wanted a 335 even though I never played one.
The chase of the new gear is a big part of it.
We all deal with it, in an age of so many new things.
Love you guys. Keep ‘em coming.✌️
By the way, put me down for one of those, magnatone’s.👍
I’ve re-done my pedalboard so many times. Stopped for a while and recently ended up with 4-5 new ones. All used good deals. Also decided to not sell pedals anymore, so hopefully the pure amount of them will slow me down haha!
My wife believed me when my Strat couldn’t play ALL kinds of music, and I Had to have an LP….18 guitars later and she is well practiced at the look.🤨
Congrats on your recovery it's a tough journey not many make it out alive.
Hope your still chugging along. That shit took Eddie's life eventually. Here's to G.A.S.!
Yep just dunk bought a blackout danelectro 59 on Tuesday for no reason …
I had one, never liked playing it, sold it for nothing to the asshole music store and really regret it even though I didn't like to play it😦
I’m going to go play one of the Super 15 amps at a local shop, since I haven’t owned or even played through a Magnatone amp.
I lurve my Hughes & Kettner Grand Meister Deluxe 40.
Power soaks, Red Box interface and software too ?
Awesome
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
Just one more...guitar,pedal,amp...then I'm done.
Mark Wahlberg in The Departed was hilarious
Boogie on the intro 🤣😂 i want my dogamn mountainnn dewww
My problem isnt so much I really want a new guitar or amp, I still will but those pass pretty quickly. But if I run into a problem that I cant overcome with what I currently own then I get really obsessed with finding something that can solve the issue
I have gear lust and I'd not afraid to admit it
So l’m hearing that l have to be a member to be able to get Tone X profiles? So l can’t buy them without being a member 🤔
Might want to update us on the benefits of membership. Member? A subscription?
Yo could you guys talk about sundragon amps? Ive been asking for 3 years lol
These CGLust Anonymous meetings are so therapeutic 😢
I had gear lust BAD for ages. A little over a year ago, I decided that I will not sell any gear. It slowed down my buying a lot. What happened is that I took more time chosing what I bought, and only bought things I truly used. I also ended up buying more big Ticket Items, guitars, amps. Got my first vintage guitar(1968 Gibson Barney Kessel Regular), my first Mesa Boogie(1994 Blue Angel 410). There's a lot more substance to what I buy now.
My Lust for Gear is Actually Under Control.!! I figured out that I am Incredibly Thankful for what I have!!
I want an old purple Marshall ! I want a Tweed deluxe ! I want a les paul custom ! I could have bought all those things if i didn't buy all the other gear i bought to satisfy those gear lusts 😂
I have a list of things I'd like, a longer list things of things I don't have any interest in, & the longest list of things I can't afford.
We all go through a period of Gear Lust as we develop a a guitarist. Most of us get over it once we find a few "the one's". Thank god I haven't wanted a thing in a couple of years. My marriage is better for it!
I always have a few 6 pay 8 pay 12 pay going with AMS and Sweetwater 🤦🏼♂️😂
Man picking up the Guitar again in 2022 really made dodge a Bullet here. All the cool stuff you can get for cheap or even free is mental.
The only Amp I own is A Blackstar Fly 3 lol. Everything else is Plugins for me. They sound stellar, and are affordable. I own Midi Switches and an Expression pedal to control the Pedals in those Plugins.
That's probably more than any Guitarist will ever need.
That Magnatone collection looks like a bunch of olde time appliances
I call it my “throbbing want gland” when I see a piece of gear I just have to have….and usually can’t afford. I have the same affliction with pre-80’s cars and astronomy gear. Maybe there’s some medication I can take for this condition? 🤣
Interesting hearing Jonathan talk about the Tonex. That looked like all the rest of the modelers to me. The way he describes it though, sounds like it's more of a modeler for people who don't want to get lost in a time suck of tweaking settings and just want to play. Great. Now I have to look into one of those...Ha!
Me Gear Lust, is this because I am about to pay off a Layaway Gibson Slash Goldtop after swearing was done buying New Gear, lol
I try to acquire a new technique when I feel GAS…that way when I buy something new, I at least play better. 🤷♂️
I just did my second large purge in 12 months
My brother is good at going “Yeah don’t buy that. It’s shite. This does that thing better. Get it.” Somehow he’s almost always right.
Hahaha. We all want everything.
I'm very content with my guitars. My pedalboard is a different story.
------------------------------------------
14 guitars...
Just shut up and take my money!
Too. As in 'very', 'excessive' ...
The time of fulfillment gets shorter as you go. It's an addiction.
I found that guitars and golf are similar.....if I only had this cool new piece of gear, I'll be a much better player! 😁
Only difference is guitars are cool and golf is so so LAME !!😂
When a guitar shop is telling you to stop lusting after new gear?!
My dudes!
Lol love that intro
Has anyone watched Eric Clapton's latest "Rig Rundown"? It opened MY f'n eyes, I'll tell you that much!
I would have a new guitar every week if I gave in to my gear impulses. sometimes two, three, or more....
Dont get excited!
What the hell was that in the intro. 😆😆😆😆😆
I feel attacked, just sayin.
Mickey Mouse and Mark Wahlberg...I don't know what else to say.
What you guys don’t acknowledge is that we can quit ANY TIME WE WANT,* which we don’t appreciate.
**-We just don’t want to now.***
**-Oh God, please send help!
I have the gear lust right now, after lusting for a Vintera Roadworn strat which I now have, for a Fender Pawn Shop '72 and have put a few guitars up for sale to try to acquire said geetar! I just HAVE to have it I say!☝Never satisfied!(wait, am I a woman?)
Try playing what you have.
Oh, made so many bad sales and trades due to GAS! Damn it!
Clearly so drunk that they both can't sit on chairs and attribute a Daft Punk track to Kanye West.
Yes I do! G.A.S is real...
It sounds like you do not tell me anything every day.
yes
I'm "shiriesh"
i get GAS that bad- i literally stopped playing thru my rig (that is the BEEZ KNEEZ dude) for about 4 days while i waited for my new compressor pedal i HAD to have. now my rig is is in that honeymoon phase until .... i gotta stop watching youtube and play more (not Casino tho)
I change gear more than I change my underwear.
We ain't even gonna ask............
FYI-You were wondering how your(Baxter and Jonathan) wives know when you talk about them on video? I listen to every show with the sole purpose of ratting you out to Christi(sp?) and Taylor. BUT-I could be persuaded to stay mum....for a price. Or a discount on a new guitar.....?
Can you really claim to hardly ever buy or sell guitars when you own a guitar store?
never sell anything. you'll regret it 50 years from now when its worth $100K
The only thing that will be worth $100,000 is your house.
@@AuntAlnico4 If 50 years from now your house is only worth $100k, you might as well be living under a bridge. I remember when I was a kid and my parents sold our house for $8k and were happy to get it.
