    Man this is all the kinds of information I’ve been looking for. Great things to know before taking on a larger project. I recently visited a store that sells exotics and other hardwoods and I felt so inspired but I didn’t want to buy anything until I knew what I was getting into. Thanks a lot!

    great video! We did a counter a few years ago for a friends cabin. when my buddy moved it up outta his basement to finish it out doors after kiln drying it, the weather turned to rain. thr counter was sealed and under cover but the grains were both "frowning". after the install in a wood stove heated home, it cupped about 1/4 in the center. no c channel installed and no poly on the underside. lesson learned. on so many levels! :(

    Mark, I love your channel and always informative videos. I framed houses in the early 2000’s but got away from any type of woodworking for awhile. I’m wanting to get into furniture building as a paying hobby. I also live in Arkansas and I’m finding it difficult to find good sources of hardwood. I notice you frequent WTG in Bentonville. I’m in Cabot and it looks like you’re in south Arkansas. Are there any you’d recommend closer to central Arkansas? Sorry for the long question!

    Hey Matt, new subscriber here. On the last video you did with Mark ya'll mentioned Maple being torn up or ruined if it were to be run through a planer. Do you have, or can you do a video on how to mill/finish Maple?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can send the maple through at an angle which helps a lot or if you have a helical head planer, it won't tear out. If neither is possible, you can use the planer to get it close and then finish with sanding.

    What I want to know is which way do you store your wood? Vertical or horizontal and why?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I store it both ways. Space if I store vertically. It takes up less floor space. Horizontal if I can so it stays flat and doesn't bow or warp

  • @freedomgunsandliberty

    Some amazingly beautiful wood examples. God makes the best art. If I have a check ill use a bowtie inlay and for holes I use turquoise and shells or other materials to fill it. Works especially well on the lathe. Great video as always. ✊🔫🇺🇸

    An easier way you figure out how the wood will cup, is the growth rings will want to flatten.

  • @kyl3dr
    @kyl3dr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    th-cam.com/video/pMudMkcD490/w-d-xo.html don’t those dominos prevent the wood from expanding and contracting the way it needs to? I’ve read if you try to prevent the natural movement it can lead to splitting.
    It looks like those dominos are going into grain that runs in opposing directions, so the wood in one direction will move and the wood on the other side of the domino will not move with it.

      That's a recipe for problems down the road. It's being done more and more because it's easy but eventually there will be a failure down the road in the joint.
