Sam delivers a stunning vocal and Ren says hold my beer. There's a vid of these two doing blind eyed that doesn't get watched enough.its on Pete eleys channel,it's ' ren and Sam tompkins ,blind eyed busking in Brighton oct 2018' The crowd joins in(quite impressively) and ren gets very punk rock, it's great😊
By this point, Ren and the Big Push was a "thing" in Brighton. They would announce when and where they would be performing, and big crowds would show up.
Yep, for nearly a decade, it became a staple of local Brighton culture for TBP to perform in the streets. People came from all over the world and all around the UK to witness their performances. Massive players in the busking and street performance scenes, for sure.
Sam's voice is one of the modern greats. Ren's voice is sublime and unmatched. I would have given them all my food money and gone to the bank to get more for them!!!
Parker do you know the story of how Ren discovered Sam busking? Ren had been busking for hours and was heading back home. He was walking and saw this guy busking. He lacked a speaker and stopped and watched for awhile. He approached and started talking to Sam. About he could do better with a speaker etc. Anyways, Ren decided to hook up his speaker for Sam and stayed there for a great bit watching and enjoying his performance. After that he and Ren would busk together at times. ( I'm paraphrasing folks) just shows how Ren wants everyone to shine.
@@parkskurYou should check out Sam Tompkins - Time Will Fly (it shows a bit of Ren and Sam when they first started busking on the streets of Brighton) it’s a great tribute to his journey
He actually played guitar for him and sorted the mic so people could hear him better and give him a better experience - he said Sam could keep the money ❤
Sam was only about 16 and had friends filming him to make it look like he had attracted a crowd, so the video of their meeting is on yt. ❤ Plus one of Sam's friends was Connor who is now Ren's right hand man and manager! ❤
I think this is why Ren has so many “older” fans. We so appreciate the simplicity of the instrument and the voice. There is nowhere to hide if you aren’t truly talented. Reminds us of when music was real music. So beautiful!
I love the bit when Ren unexpectedly sings low at the beginning of Man's World and a woman yelps. I think that's the moment we all fell in love with Ren. I love seeing the two kids sitting in the front soaking it all in. What an experience to remember!
Something not often talked about though... one child intently listens the ENTIRE set while the other seems too focused on playing with toys, meaning that one child is musically connected to their performance while the other is merely experiencing it passively. It's a particular perspective that I think is worth considering.
@@KittyInTheGarden my apologies! I didn’t mean to sound like I was pushing disrespect towards the other child, or anyone else. It was just an observation about how people listen. I will remember to be more specific next time. 🥰
That girl who “just fell in love with Ren” is how we all feel watching this. But also watching Hi Ren too. He’s mesmerising. Yep, even to guys in business suits. 😂 Really enjoyed your appreciation of this. You’re right. It’s beautiful. Feels like we’re there. Thanks ❤
Wow pretty much says it all. Great reaction. I love how they compliment each other so well and neither is trying to outshine the other because they are so unbelievably talented in their own ways
That guy with the guitar on his back was waiting his turn to busk…. But probably contemplating the meaning of his existence when wondering how he was gonna follow that
I used to live about 1-minute away from where Ren is playing. It's a very popular corner for musicians because it's in a very busy part of "The Lanes" and cars aren't allowed to drive in the area so it's quite normal for people just to be sitting in the middle of the road, hanging out, eating and drinking some adult beverages :) It's great location. Luckily, I now only live 10 minutes away and visit frequently during the summer. Sam Tompkins became a really famous musician here in the UK, and him and Ren collabed on a bunch of tracks before he became big. According to Ren, he saw Sam singing on a corner when he was like 16 years old and offered Sam his guitar and amp, but Sam didn't know how to play the guitar back then, so they started doing these improv gigs together. I would love to see a small gig with these two as the lineup, especially in Brighton as it would drag quite a crowd.
In Ren's video MACKAY he has a red mark on his neck which I found odd, until I realized Ren had probably helped lug his keyboard and equiptment up into those hills with a strap around his neck. Either that, or he had a big date the night before.
This was right after their song Blind Eyed had gone viral, so they'd post on Instagram where they were going to be playing, and these crowds would show up. Sam's solo work is great as well. Try Lose It All, or Time Will Fly.
My favorite Ren and Sam video Sam said once that He or Ren would post on their social where they would be, and usually a crowd was there wanting on them ... Ren shines his best when he is live … I love when he is in his zone and the music speaks .. his body and guitar is moving around mostly in the air and Ren's eyes rolls back ,,, my two favorite Ren zone is on TBP What Kind of Woman and I Shot The Sheriff( the plaid jacket one ) he is in the zone and the music speaks so glad Sam is getting more attention he is awesome like Ren he opened for Justin Bieber on a couple shows ,,, Ren has some very talented friends indeed
My favorite ❤️ . It was my favorite and most played song last year. Maybe this year too 🙂. Sam is fantastic but when Ren starts, to me he takes over the whole song. Thanks Parker 🫶🏻
See the wheelbarrow in the back by the door? That's how they got the equipment around. Determination. The guy in the back with the guitar, I have noticed him in quite a few busking videos, guess he's a fan too!
I've only just started checking out some of Sam's solo stuff. Time Will Fly by Sam Tompkins has a shot of them the day they met. Sam singing and Ren on guitar 🎸. It's also a great song
Brighton is very busking friendly and appreciates artists and provides areas for them to showcase their talent. The Upside Down House is a favorite busking site. Ren did several there with Ruby J and Liv Sangster. Ren does all of the sound set up for the busking sets because he wants to make sure the crowd has the best experience possible. Fan boying before "Man's World Intro", epic. Wait until CHINCHILLA and Ren's Sexual Healing busking session or First Dance/Drunk on Love. Over the moon. CHINCHILLA also does that leg lift to get that higher note. 12:10
Sam definitely has that buttery smooth RnB voice. But it’s not really my thing personally. Well technically my thing is Japanese metalcore 99% of the time so Ren doesn’t really fit into that either 😂 But there’s just something about him… the soul he pours into everything he does and the unpredictability is just different. He is mesmerising. Not even just as an artist. I think we’re all deep down the rabbit hole because of who he is as a human being and the way that shines through in his art ❤🐰🕳️
Love Ren. Ok on Sam. Too much falsetto on every song kills it for me. My opinion folks .this is a real good talented busking combo in general. Love how Ren slays those long notes.
They are both equals in terms of sheer vocal ability. Sam is just a different KIND of vocal brilliance. Sam Tompkins is a friend of his, I believe 6 years younger than Ren, and was discovered by Ren when they were both much younger, busking on the streets of Brighton. He took Sam under his wing and now Sam is one of the best folk pop singers in the world. I DEEPLY recommend checking out the MC Sessions version of their mutually created original called Blind Eyed. It is utter brilliance and one of the most complex performances ever done in music history. The sheer level of musical talent between them is literally out of this world. I cannot even give that performance justice. I recommend checking out Tim Welch's analysis and breakdown of that particular piece AFTER you react to the MC Sessions video: th-cam.com/video/I1G7SFgJMrk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OY2fBFgSRMyjzYmW Sam is Ren's little brother from another mother, for sure. Also, that black guy with the guitar roaming around is DEFINITELY pissed that Ren and Sam are literally taking ALL the potential 'customers' away from him. In another video later in the set, he eventually just leaves because it's clear to him that until these two stop busking, he ain't gettin' nothin' here. I don't know if anyone knows anything about him because I know Ren and Sam would've included him in their set if he had just asked to join. Ren always wants to help out other artists as much as he can and I KNOW that guy would've gotten his chance to shine if he had only asked. Busking is definitely where we see these artists shine out, especially Ren. It's like a fire turns on inside of him and he just explodes in musical beauty.

please do Sam Tompkins hero live at hammersmith apollo this is he wrote for his dad also dead to me see me Hi my name insecure Phone in Heaven someone else
It was only the very end of this when Ren went off crazy with his guitar playing that I did NOT like. It was painful to my ears. He can play great guitar but he just starting doing strange things and changing pitch and playing with the looper foot thing. Most of it was great though, Sam was good, great voice but his high falsetto is rather high for me, but I can understand that a lot of people like that. I'm an old bitty and very particular about singers and pitch. LOL
You could have cut Ren's incredible vocals up a little more. You let him sing for almost 2 seconds at one point, without interrupting! That's far too long for modern sensibilities. Attention spans aren't what they were... Besides, we all know that music is best appreciated when cut up into many tiny pieces, interspersed with inane and needless commentary. Preferably about something other than the music. Nobody wants to hear beautiful vocals for as long as 2 seconds! You're letting the side down man! We need more pauses and we need to hear you vocalise EVERY empty thought that enters your head! It's important! It really is!
The joy on Ren's face when whoever he's playing with 'shines' is so lovely to watch. Thanks x
When Sam reaches his highest note Ren is so impressed and lets out a whoop of joy. Love it!
People used to fly in from other countries to hear these two. Elton John was talking about them on his radio station.

One of my top 5 busking performances by Ren/Sam. Pure magic, as usual!
