    I came across this video by accident and glad I did. I've tried every which way to make soft boiled or poached eggs in the IP and they never turn out runny. I chalk it up to a sensitive pot because not even low pressure at 0 mins. worked for me, no matter which type of vessel I used (eg. ramekins). This is the first time I've seen them done in the shell and had to try it. MARVELOUS! Thanks for sharing.

      Hi. Thank you for this video. Just saw it now. Which setting did you use to cook the egg? Pressure cook or egg setting? This is the kind of egg I’ve been wanting to have. I’ve been boiling the eggs on the stove and it’s frustrating to be peeling the egg with some white eggs sticking on the shell.
      Thank you

    So just found the channel a couple of days ago and have been on a marathon. I love everything so far. I just felt the need to comment on something. You said you don't always have ice made. That is such an alien concept to me. It really does demonstrate difference between latitudes in this case/cultures/economic stature. Here in Texas I always joke that we have our obligatory 2 weeks of winter. Can't imagine not having both ice makers working all year. I hope you keep up the videos. May God's blessings be on you and your family.

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! It's not a latitude thing, it's just me. I'm actually allergic to cold, if you can believe (cold urticaria is a real thing!) But I still sneak in some ice cream every now and then, of course, have some hot water to go along with it, just in case. We, as a family, just don't add ice to anything. I have been to Texas once. It snowed while I was there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Must have brought it with me. 😉

    I've been making eggs for 3 days! Trying to make a soft boiled or poached egg. They NEVER come out right! I watched your video with a smirk on my face - talking to my iPad and finally say OH YEAH, I betchya a nickel that DONT WORK. In fact, I'll prove it!!!!! I got out of bed at 2AM went to the kitchen, took an egg out of the fridge, put exactly 1 cup of sink water in the IP, set it for 3 minutes on LOW (who uses LOW? LOW IS FOR GIRLS, GUYS DON'T DO LOW) and stood there and waited for it to finish. When it beeped, I took it out and put it in a bowl of cold water from the refrigerator, I did not even put ice cubes in it, because I was sure this was not going to work. God as my witness, my egg looked just like yours. NO LOSE WHITES AND A RUNNY YOLK. Nothing gross, just an exquisite perfect egg. OMG, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks. Who the hell uses LOW - seriously for real??? But at 2:15am I made just the egg I have been craving for years. Whoever the man is in this video MARRY THAT GIRL!!!
    Thank you - and thumbs up 👍👍👍

    Thanks for the informative and fun to watch video. What is the benefit of low pressure vs high pressure for eggs? With high pressure, will the egg whites be more or less firm? With the newer instant pot egg setting, I think that it cooks for 3 minutes on high pressure for soft boiled eggs.

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your questions. My impression is that high pressure would cook the eggs more for that amount of time. I think of high pressure as max heat vs low pressure as medium heat. Hope that helps. I have not tried cooking eggs at high pressure.

      +Kay Wooldridge Hi Kay, I mean program your pressure cooker for 3 mins on low pressure. (If you have a LUX model, you don't have a pressure choice.) Oh well, will ask anyway. Wanted to find a Chinese Tea Egg recipe converted to the IP, but haven't found one that uses the IP for the egg in sauce simmer phase which normally takes 3 hours for infusion. have you ever considered doing this?

    I love this smart instant pot video! I think I'll buy one! Questions: why do you own any other pots and pans? I'm moving into a tiny house and I need to drastically simplify cooking...If I do not eat rice or noodles or any side carb...I thought this appliance and maybe an enamel cast iron pan would be enough. what are your thoughts?

    • @MrWhitmire
      @MrWhitmire 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right!
      I've only recently started using an Instant Pot, but I'm already finding my other pots and pans aren't getting used as much. I do like my cast iron grill pan for fish and meats, but otherwise, I really only use other pans when I want to prepare more than one item at a time or to cook a sauce separate from what it's going to go on.

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Natalie, if you are downsizing and want to simplify cooking, you are right... it is really unnecessary to have other pots and pans. For me, I love to cook and use many methods and tools to achieve the results I want. I don't see my Instant Pot as the only way to cook. Not everything is better in the Instant Pot. I also feed a family of 5 and entertain often so I need all my other pots and pans as well. Hope that helps. =)

    I noticed that you have both Instant Pots plugged in to the same wall receptacle. Do you have issues with circuit breakers tripping ??

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surprisingly I have not! But I am constantly tripping the breaker when I am either boiling water and/or microwaving and/or using the toaster oven. I can only do one of these things at a time. So inefficient!

      Flo Lum we love an old show named Green Acres. They have their appliances numbered to avoid tripping a circuit or actually I bet it was blowing a fuse. :-)

    Well...it didn’t work out for me. The shell was so difficult to peel, the eggs split when I cracked the shell, and the whites were still a bit runny. I’m gonna stick the remaining few unpeeled eggs back in to see if it will be better when I cook them a bit more.

    Were the eggs supposed to be at room temperature? if they come straight from the fridge, any adjustments in that case?

      I used eggs straight from the fridge. Haven't tried with room temp eggs.

    That really is quick and easy and is "the perfect" soft boiled egg. NB : the fresher the egg, the more difficult it is to peel. What makes it somewhat easier is to effectively cold shock it for a minute or so. Unfortunately, I do not have an Instant Pot. I have an AirFryer instead where I am still discovering the best remedy for the perfect soft boiled egg. - somewhere in the vicinity of, 130 °C x 10 -11 mins. Not really comparable with 3 mins of the Instant Pot, is it?

    Just did soft boiled eggs the way you said and it didn’t work. The two eggs I cracked and tried to peel had the eggs and shell come off together. It was a ness. I had to through the two eggs out, but wil boil the other two eggs in the pan.

    Flo can you give us a video on making perfect poached eggs in the IP? I have tried three times and each time I get a different result. I started with 1 min high pressure then qr. they were the only ones with the whites set and yolks still runny. I tried making them again the next day and the whites were still jelly at 1 min. Then I tried three min. Does it effect cooking time cold water vs hot water to create the steam?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Judy Gilchrist I've tried only once and was not happy with the texture of the white so I prefer using this recipe instead since it's so much easier and no fuss. If I ever get a perfect recipe for poached eggs, I will film and post it! 😉

    Ours came out runny and hard to peel... We put them in on low pressure for 3 minutes. Right when it was done, we vented the pressure and put them in ice water. Not sure what we did wrong. Should we leave the eggs in there for a while before releasing the pressure?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure what went wrong for you either. I would normally recommend not to leave it in there longer as the egg will cook more but in your case maybe you should if it’s too runny.

    I don't get it. Did it exactly like you in the video. Except I own the Instant Pot IP-DUO60.
    I've poured a cup of tap water into the inner pot, inserted the metal rack, and on top of the rack put 6 eggs from the fridge.
    Set up for 3 minutes low pressure (manual mode), closed the lid and set the valve to into "sealing".
    After the timer went trough I released the steam and took one egg out.
    It was very hot, but I peeled it anyway out of curiosity, it was still liquid.
    What went wrong ?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Wojciech Pietrzak Hm... I have no idea. Given the results I would say it didn't come up to full pressure. It shouldn't matter whether you are using the DUO or the Smart. The only other thing I can think of is that your eggs were much colder than mine but I'm not sure that should matter either. (Since when I cook from frozen, often the cook time is the same, while taking longer to come to pressure). I'd give it another try. But I'd also keep an eye on your IP though. Make sure everything else is cooking as it should.

    On my IP there is also less, normal, more settings just beneath the pressure level. Which do I need for this recipe?

    • @FloLum
      @FloLum  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The “less, normal, more” refers to sauté temp. This recipe is using low pressure which requires Duo model or higher.
