I'm seeing all these comments about Kyoto Tachibana. Not every Japanese high school band is Kyoto Tachibana! I'm actually very happy to see videos like this getting American viewership. It shows that students around the world are not so different, and that your average Japanese marching band is not so far from the average American marching band. Being Asian-American, it always stings a bit to see videos of the best Japanese school bands, accompanied by comments about how Asians are robotic and unhappy and genetically predisposed to be perfect, invalidating all the hard work they put into their practice and chalking it up to genes. So it's nice to see a video of Asians just having fun and enjoying marching in a parade. :)
For me you hit on a big point for why I love international bands. It’s the fun they are having while showing off all their hard work. I watch a lot of college bands and yes they are good but for different reasons. 1. Is song choice, 2. Is the arrangement, I like to hear all the different instruments shine. 3. Fun, I love the choreography and overall light heart hearted spirit of the bands. American bands have fun but it’s about volume and precision steps. Not always the funnest to watch. At least not all the time.
Tachibana sets the standard, loved the blue angels, so young but good for their age, great to watch. Music plays a role in Japanese life and brings happiness
I loved the grade school kids, one of them looked like a first-grader. Some of the bands put a little dancing in. One band reminded me of the Salvation Army band, but the Tachibana band is, and always will be, the best.
I would characterize many of these performances as competent but tentative, as if they were could not commit fully lest they mightt make a mistake. The Golden Bears were in a contest video in which there sound was okay, but they were basically accompaniment for their cheer leading squad, which was in no way hesitant, but downright spectacular. The Katsura band was again good, and close to capturing the easy swing along of a European march, but not quite. The Kyoto Koka band is a cut above for those of us who were brought up in a military band tradition. Your do not have to dance to be a good band. Kosei another good band. Tachibana always good, the dance looks organic and natural not forced. These three are the ones I would turn out to hear. As for the others, how the heck do you make the Stars and Strips Forever sound stodgy!? Speaking of over cautious. Yes, the clarinets and bassoons have wood barrels which can swell if the get really soaked, by the raincoats over the flutes and Saxes, which are metal.
@@mcargina1 Speak foor yourself. IF a band cannot sound good, you migh as wll just have just a drum. And a good band also looks good. The thig about Tachibana is that they can do it all.. Look at the 2015 Nationals for perfect drill with no dancing, and it is beautiful. The thing is that they can maintain almost all of their sound, and most of the formation movement with the dancing. Most of the imimitators have trouble with one or more of these items.

That girl that does the xylophone is ALWAYS smiling. I love it! She really enjoys it
What band?
I'm guessing you meant Chippi in the Kyoto Tachibana SHS Band? She is famous for that smile.

Tachibana ,in a class of it's own!
先頭で歩いている方は、平松先生でしょうか。御年になられてもマーチングの普及に努められているのですね。まさに偉大なレジェンドです。

Jesse Oaks 6:47 the Izumo Business high school band, has the same conductor as Kyoto Tachibana’s that’s why you can sense a little Tachibana in them.
aDBo'Ch 1 they were directed by the same coach/director I think!
At about 21 minutes in, what school/organisation is that?
Kameoka City Taisei Junior High School
Blue Angels and Orange Devils ... SuperStars!

Dancing and prancing and sounding great is better than marching and sounding good.
