My favorite part of this entire skit was Pete saying "to hell with it" having his cake and eating it, too. Also, Pete and Aidy breaking character at that last cake while Ego kept it together was hysterical.
Pete didn't even act/react to the other cakes during the sketch. He kept eating the "mustard" cake that was supposed to be bad and noncommittally reading lines, then blew it at the last cake. SNL needs to stop forcing Pete down our throats.

Even in costume, he's got his painted nails and goofy mannerisms. It's the whole, "I don't care" thing. Him eating cake the whole time was distracting as fuck.

I get some of your criticisms but the nail polish one is just what? It doesn't harm the skit and he shouldn't have to remove his nail polish then repaint every week. Though honestly, I've never gotten "I don't care" vibes from him.
Pete trying and failing to cut a small piece of the first cake and eventually just stabbing a huge chunk and trying to fit the entire thing in his mouth is so Pete, I love it.
He was great. Probably the best host in a long time. He delivered his lines very well in every skit and he had great timing. I can’t wait to see the great job Kim kardashian does next week 🙄

I think it would probably be absurd to maintain a straight face with that last cake. Everything from slicing to eating is rife with innuendo. And don’t leave a bit of frosting on the lips too long afterwards. Or lick it off for that matter. It’s just all so wrong. And then standing there as it’s televised live to half the country? I’m wondering how it went for the west coast airing.
With how frank and anatomical his past cake descriptions have been, I'm guessing they floated that by their standards person and they couldn't get away with saying the word "semen" or "ejaculate" with something so obviously dicklike, so they had to go with a softer euphemism.
The pilgrim barfing on Sandy kills me every time, this one was funnier than the Cookie Monster baking one with Don Cheadle which was the best of these skits.

I think he was just way too high and when he fudged getting cake to mouth in his first scene he panicked and thought he could make a bit out of shoveling all the cake in his mouth. I don’t mean to sound harsh but it was really distracting to me and honestly sorta ruined the skit. He can be high and act like that and knows people will still love him for “just being Pete”

Pete cracking up at the cake with a dong on it was one of the funniest things. I dunno whether I'd give him credit for being funny... it was just that he automatically started snickering at the exact kind of joke you'd expect him to find funny while still pounding down the mustard cake. For some reason that made me laugh. It was a good enough sketch before that, too. I think they keep Pete around more as a prop than a comedian.
