- Let's build an offroad service truck!
This FSJ Jeep J10 started life as a fun truck ready for the farm... But we want more! Swapping this onto a Cummins powered 1 ton Dodge opens up a world of capabilities! Today I'm planning, ordering, cutting the frame in half and planning some more. This is a great start to building trucks in the new shop!
I hope you enjoy it.

Dirt Reynolds would love your vote, and as always, we appreciate your support! 🙏🤠 www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app/build-challenge
I vote j10. It looks rad
Half j10 bed half flat bed, seen that on newer welding rig truck. Could be cool and different
I would so go with the original bed, hate the flat bed idea.
J 10
J10 Bed
It looks good with the Jeep bed. It makes it unique. Everyone does flatbeds.
Yes, and NO bro smoke stacks!
@@MrMrsregor Stacks are for High Schoolers.🤣
I love flatbeds, but this thing looks awesome with the factory bed. I don't think anything else is gonna beat this look.
Kroil works way way better the wd40. I promise you'll be pissed off you waited this long to use it.
Honestly that j10 bed is so iconic, i think within the modern world we live in now. There is plenty of parts to modify it to create the usability you are aiming for.
J-10 BED!!!
Love the J10 bed. Glad you gave it one more go.
I'll also add that I appreciated your real life FJ-80 build, and felt it was the perfect build for an all around truck.
J10 Bed all the way. Going to be an awesome build Nate!
J10 all the way. You can always “evolve” later with a flat bed 👍
I'm starting to think this way as well. I could always try the j10 bed first and go from there. 🤘
I did like the stubby wrecker idea, would suit that cab. Kinda like Rorys Old Blue!
I love the way it looks right now.
J10 bed for sure! I used to have a 69 J20, loved that truck. Wish I had it back.
I think the lines it creates with the factory Jeep bed are outstanding. The symmetry when your eye swoops down the side from the front to the rear and even in the other direction. There is a classiness and an elegance that you will never achieve from a flat bed.
So Please Keep the Factory Bed.
Looks like things have changed and people want the J-10 bed, and I’m all for it! You gotta do the Jeep bed!
IMO if you really wanted to go over the top I would think about turning it into a crew cab. It may be a bit much on the time/budget for the competition but they look sooooo sick as a crew cab and you have more room for activities. I’m the fan of a flatbed or utility type bed but I could go either way. The shop is looking great too by the way!
Tbh from a everyday use standpoint, the flat bed is the best choice. But for some reason I still vote for the jeep bed, just looks sick!
I am so glad you are doing very successful! I remember when you started out and quit your pluming job to do this channel. I love watching your videos and they help me a lot. Especially the videos on teaching about axles ratio etc. Again, I am very happy for your success!!!!
Johnny D
Dude! J-10 bed for the win! Can't beat the cool factor!
J10 bed!!! Looks sick
Keep the J10 Bed, that looks SO COOL with the J10 Bed
I loved that Land Cruiser and the build philosophy behind it, voted for it nearly every day.
Hmmm. How about a custom Canadian style flatbed with removable J10 side sheet metal?
I loved the Lexus that you and Dave put a ton of work and details into!
I enjoy the stock bed look I understand all the rest,It would be really neat to save it out whole as its all the same. Thanks for sharing your project with us !
Build is going to be sweet!! Happy Birthday and Glad to see your son out in the shop! My two boys were always helping and learning in the shop
You do you. Make it the way it makes you smile. we are fans of your built
J10 bed would be I would go....look sweet
Factory J10 bed with custom dually fenders gets my vote!! Love how the truck is looking
J10 bed for sure. You have it already and it’ll look great.
J-10 Bed!
Love the look of that J10 bed, I hope that's how you go.
J10 bed with custom flares so you can keep it a dually! It would look so badass with a skinny set of 37s in the back and half turned into a wrecker! Not a full boom, but maybe a lighter duty boom to lift heavy items into the bed, but still have full offroad capabilities a winch in the bed could work for some recoveries!
I'm loving the J10 bed...
It will be totally unique with the dualies...🏆
Please, please, please choose this...👍🤩✨
This is an awesome build. Keep the Jeep bed, it looks great!
I like it the way it is with the jeep bed.
I think the factory bed looks cool. A custom flat bed would be cool too and give you more freedom I suppose. I think you should make it as you have envisioned, honestly. It’s your truck after all.
Vehicles are simply better with some real personality! Putting a flat bed on an off-road rig is almost equivalent with an ls swap... everyone's done it. It works, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't have that extra charm. Love the name and love the idea of keeping the jeep bed with the cab!
And as others have said, the Lux Cruiser was one of the coolest builds I've ever seen. It felt attainable as a do-it-yourself/at-home mechanic while also being incredibly capable!
I like it with the jeep bed. Flat bed would be cool, but keeping the look of the old jeep truck would be a much better look
I dig it with the factory bed. You could always do a flatbed down the road if this ends up not serving your needs.
J-10 bed for sure!
J10 bed has my vote. Also, I loved the “stock on steroids” theme of last year.
J10 bed! It looks so sweet that way!
Happy birthday Nate! Hope you had a blessed day. Thanks for the content.
After owning FSJ's for 20 years, I would love to see you keep the bed. But the ditch the stack. I would route the exhaust out the side through the rotted part of the bed (which is a very common rust spot). I am not sure if that C&C axle will work with a pickup frame. The C&C frames are a lot narrower, though I am sure you have measured all that. Loving the build!
J10 looks the part can’t wait to see it all done
I was totally team flatbed, but that J10 bed looks way too cool to get rid of. I hope you keep it and make it work! If it gets too beat up you can always make a flatbed in the future.
Most definitely original bead will look really nice 👍
Here is my thoughts on the beds… flat bed would be cool and much easier to work around the dodge stuff. However I think the jeep bed would look cooler. I loved the way old jeep truck build was going before you put it in the back corner of the old shop. So my thoughts are use jeep bed so you can see the old build completed“kinda” and then when the bed takes its first beating then pull it off and built the flat bed!
Jeep bed. Having said that, I always thought these were goofy looking trucks. Having said that, I think this one's going to turn out looking pretty cool👍👍👍
I love the looks of the duals on that J box as is 😊
PS, created an account and voted ;)
I really appreciate the support bro 🙏
J10 bed with some super singles (build you own using steel) wrapped in some 14.50 or wider rear tires with 12.50 wide fronts using the narrower rear end.
Jeep bed!!! Looks awesome!
You know, your builds are on point.... always, so which ever route you go its gonna be killer. Ill back you on any decision you make. I still.say flat bed but that j10 bed looks really good too. So its your truck, its your choice.
keep that J10 bed, and then add a contractor type all metal topper. Think RSI smartcap with a more period correct look. It would add weight, but also would add the "service truck" look and function.
I voted flatbed the first time and I still think that's the better choice utility wise for what you're wanting to make it do but if you see something in your minds eye then you should go for it. It's your truck and it will look a lot cooler with the jeep bed. As we all know looking cool is priority #1.
Need to do either a gladiator step side bed like on tremors or a toolbox service bed. Either way would be awesome. Happy to see it get done any way you do it.
J10 bed for sure.
Custom j10 dually bed would be sick!
Love the J10 bed!
Keep the J10 bed, if it gets trashed you can flatbed it later
Oh man where's the jeep love? J-10 all the way. It would be a crime not to. And it's showing in the end. 🔥
Stick with the box looks Good.
J-10 bed all the way!
You are 1000% on the correct path!
Jeep made a dually j-truck, pretty much just added flares to the stock bed. Ergo you should use the stock bed.
J10 bed, it looks so rad right now.
J-10 bed cut down like some of the modern welding beds so you get the best of both worlds
J10 bed. Love the look.
For Practicality/useability flatbed all day! for looks and keeping the flow of the truck J10 bed
Definitely J10 bed. Flatbed is just going to be another flatbread.
I'm so excited for this build
You've soo gotta use the Jeep bed. That looks bad ass.
Hey Nate, you've got to go for the J10 bed. It looks totally awesome.
Absolutely the J10 bed it will look sweet
I like both bed options but think that a flat bed w/ a nice headache rack would make it look super aggressive, something that I would also love to see would be a clean engine bay, possibly removable front clip for ease of service
J10 bed with 3 fold-down sides 👍👍
J10 bed for sure!
Do a mix of both. They have flatbeds that have the stock sideskirts on it that would be pretty cool
Jeep bed all the way! Flat beds are a dime a dozen on work trucks. There is only one bed for that body. Besides, you can add one later if you want.
I owned a flatbed. I love flatbeds, but I must go for the J-10 bed.
awesome and outstanding as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along
I vote jeep bed wide body!!!!!!! Im really interested in when you do the np205 & 203 combine. Cool video cant wait for the next one
You ever see those cartel trucks? Where the whole outer skin of the bed comes up to reveal lots of storage space? Doing that would be pretty sweet and kind of keep the best of both. Cut out the insides and have boxes there. IDK a service bed would serve the purpose the best and form should follow function but if some of the look of that bed could be saved it would look awesome.
Nate, the bed is the way to go except for the departure angle. It needs to be "Bobbed"! Take another look at "Colt's" S10 build? Good Luck!
Redrill the dually spacer so you can still run off the shelf unit bearings in a pinch.
J10 Bed for sure! 🎉
Baja fenders for the bed to cover the dually keep the j10 bed I just imagined in my head and it’s looks pretty good lol
J10 bed for the win!
It needs the J-10 bed. You can always make a custom flat bed to be practical in the future. But the looks matter for the OnX off-road challenge and the complete J-10 looks so damn cool
Jeep bed all the way.
Jeep bed for the win!!
I vote j10 bed. Looks so cool with that bed on there.
Ima stick with my previous vote and say flat bed. Take the J10 bed and make an offroad campsite trailer to match the rig. I do like the J10 bed look but I'd much rather see you make a killer flatbed to match the truck. (But I understand it's a competition build so you do what you need to) keep up the great work an I look forward to the next video.
There’s lots of people building flatbeds with original bedsides which seems complicated but they sure look cool
Jeep bed looks badass got to do it
J10 bed. Ive been waiting for the low buck truck to finished since it started at the old place.
On second thought, here is a suggestion that would be super cool. Build out the truck with the J10 body for obvious cool factor. Do it with the narrow 14 bolt. Also build it with ease of removal in mind. Then, build out a flat bed that matches the mounting tabs for the J10. Like a quick change bed. Best of both worlds and could have some neat utility based on how you are going to use the truck for a particular trip.
For example
Jeep bed = camp setup
Flat bed = offroad service truck
definitely keep the J10 bed, it looks sweet!
Keep the jeep for sure
I built a M715 inspired bed for my Glasiator out of square tube and wood sides and floor. Supper strong, military vibe. I can send you photos if you like. Food for thought
Keep the J10 bed. There’s a body shop by me with a square body chevy tow truck that has the stock bed, but bedsides have been lowered. Look at how some welding beds mimic the factory lines for some inspiration
Make a diy classic Willys style bed out of sheet and tubing. It would look awesome and can be as long or as stubby as you need it to be.
J10!! More unique and different.
J10 bed all the way! You already have it hahaha
