Thanks for the breakdown. Your videos help me understand the O-line responsibilities and mistakes. It's frustrating to see how much opportunity was lost by poor execution.
CMC is the highest paid RB in the NFL, but he needs perfect blocking!? Dude's got 4 yards this season after contact. Mason has done that in 1 carry like 50+ times. If you watch other team's film, there is always a few guys messing up. On the good teams, the stars overcome these miscues a lot. The OL has played better this year than last year largely thanks to the addition of Puni and McKivitz has gotten better. But this year the star players haven't been as impactful.
@ I totally agree with you. But for me, it’s easier to see the mistakes by our skill players during the game. Videos like this help me see what I miss while watching.
Kittle is a huge part of the run blocking game, Kyle needs to have a plan when guys like Kittle goes down and not just try to plug in the backup like he can do the same job
I think this is the long term answer When we have all our big pieces: we're near unstoppable. But when a good chunk of our big pieces are injured, do we have a plan B? Or C? The answer seems to be no. I like Shanahan. But even I've noticed that he needs to adjust the gameplan if not all our big pieces are in place.
@@13Kr4zYAzN13 My thoughts exactly. We've seen so often that even one of the major offensive weapons suddenly (or even not so suddenly) being out seems to derail Kyle's entire gameplan. We saw this when Deebo was hurt last year, with CMC in the first half of this season, and with Kittle in this game. If a gameplan can't withstand having only 3 or 4 elite offensive weapons on the field instead of 5...that's not a good resilient plan.
And the crazy part is he had some really good chess pieces to work with. Pearsall being a speed freak could’ve hit the end arounds and Gurrendo could’ve helped w/ opening up that outside zone run scheme
@@Wolfeson28 But how do you explain, that Mason was on pace for a 1500 yard season through 6 games, as CMC's replacements. The problem is Kyle's fixation, that only certain players have the right, to do certain things and the replacements could have been traded for all it's worth. That's how much they're used, when the starters are back, even when their not at full speed.
Thing about the Shanahan scheme is that everything has to go right. It's great when it happens, but it's a tall order for it to happen every down, every game. You need a way to get easy yards.
9ers beat Green Bay and Buffalo we can believe this team still has what it takes. Thats a big "IF". Team is playing some of their worst football and still never gets blown out and losing in final seconds of most losses this year besides Minnesota and KC. Need to go at least 5-2 now. Its possible.
LG, C, and RT hasss to be a point of emphasis once the season ends. If Purdy wasn't able to scramble he'd be getting sacked 3-6 times a game. It's soo fkn annoying to see.
Execution has been so bad this season, Jauan Jennings and George Kittle deserve their flowers for playing so good. Purdy has also been good but he has been some throwing stupid ints and must learn to kill a down when nothings working and live another day.
JD, what are your thoughts on coaching being a major element of the struggles? Everything you outlined here is shown as execution errors, but it really looks to me like Kyle is becoming overly predictable with his play calling in some situations (like the red zone). Utilizing that, opposing defenses seem to be making small adjustments to handle those anticipated plays, and Shanahan looks slow to counter-adjust. Are you seeing anything like that on the film?
Kinda makes you wonder if Trent was really good enough to go. He said he was maybe 65% after the game. If his back up can’t handle coming in to keep him from having to go on a pain shot to get him to 65%…this better be a higher priority this draft. Duct tape and pain killers aren’t goons make the blocks we need consistently. Puny was a great pick up, we need more.
Maybe he needs to simplify the offense so players don’t make so many mistakes. Take stock of the team you have and accentuate their talents Also, make adjustments. You’re the hc ffs
@ these are basic plays that they should know though. I dunno. This is just really frustrating, especially since a lot of it is the offensive line, which is intact.
@@BeingButterflythe Niners have have one of the most complicated pre snap offenses in the league. Every team suffers injuries, but the Niners drop off more than most. I have a a question for you, is this lack of execution on the players or the coaching (emphasize on the pregrame prep)? The 9ers used to have the "next-man up" mentality, but I haven't seen it this year and the players consistently looked confused in their assignments weekly.

Must have been frustrating to go through the tape - thanks for your dedication! I do wonder about how injuries in players *on* the field (having previously been day-to-day or questionable) is causing us problems. Was Trent Williams fully fit? Is Jordan Mason back to full strength? Feel sad for players who are having what would otherwise be great seasons - Puni and Warner in particular. Do you think that Shanahan has different run schemes available for Mason vs McCaffrey, or is it all the same? They feel quite different in feel and options, but the schemes don't seem to be any different. Whilst I am a huge Juszczyk fan, I wonder if some 2 back sets with both McCaffrey and Mason on the field might cause defences a few new problems.
@BigPapa2613 yes, he's the same from BAL last year but I don't think that's the only thing. We put 34 on them last time and when we played BAL still moved the ball like crazy.
@@jonnydel I didn’t think about that..we did move the ball both times…is mcCaffrey not seeing stuff properly? From the tv view run lanes look there for a big play then 2 yard gain
It feels like the 9ers have been had by the NFL Defensive coordinators. Since the Superbowl when Spagnola gave a masterclass in defense. The 49ers have been pressured on the right O line, McCaffery is being keyed on. Defenses are sitting in the middle for pass plays, picking off the pass, or simply a big hand on the D line for a tip play on the pass. The NFC West knows how to play us. The League now knows how to defend us. Don't even think about getting rid of Kyle. No head coach wins every game. Not Walsh, or Siefert, or even Harbaugh. Kyle will win the big game. Too many injuries and dumb playcalling this year. I dont even see the Niners winning a playoff game this year. Hoping for some good draft picks at this point.
