@@AmericanStandardK9 I've had people try to provoke my 2 Cane Corsos to try and get a pay day. What do you reccomend as a soultion to this? Luckily I was recording the day the event happened and proved the woman was lying about my dog biting her child. Do you think there's any way around this? My dogs did bark but only because the woman literally tried to push her child on top of my dogs to make something happen.

Worst part about this is when you do it and people try to come up and pet your dog.

I have done that bit it depends on the body language of the dog. If it's visually wanting to be petted, well....
Now, in his video where he does this with his Corso. No, I would not approach that dog. His body language and whole demeanor says he is all business.

I envy this stay.
The part I struggle with on my dog is getting her to remember the command long term. So knows the commands and will obey for a short time but she seems to just think “that’s enough of that” and move on.

My lab always waits outside when im in the bakery. Leash often isnt even attached to anything. People are always amazed how she just waits very politely. Ofcourse, she knows she gets a piece of fresh ham when I come outside again.
The little girl has the choice of going inside for ice cream or sitting outside to watch the dog and, without hesitation, picks the dog. What an angel.

@@nicolaxoxo1 Yeah, Garret's professional work with dog bites far exceeds the coroner who likely had no more than 1 or 2 "true" dog bites for experience. I saw that same video and Garret would have smoked that part, even though he doesn't have a medical degree. Heck, I worked in an ER a few years and on a rescue squad, and I could tell the difference with my experience with

Currently training my Belgian Malinois on waiting in different settings. Will definitely try to have her wait outside a shop like this. Amazing

One downside (depending on local laws) is no matter how well the pooch is trained, if there is an over-zealous cop that wants to cite you for an infraction (and possibly impound your pup cause he/she isn't on a leash) - it could be a problem.

Passed the test and then some. The dog even stayed in position with a stranger puppy talking at the dog.
My Siberian and Pit could do that. That’s about as far as I get. Why do strangers always have to approach (even the Pit) ?

Pit died 33 years ago and i finally got a Shepherd pup a couple months ago.
He’s smart and trains me to play his games, or tries.
I had a border collie that had a down stay as good as that.. but I doubt I’ll ever trust my cattle dog. If somethin better rolls by, he’ll go for it.

I used to have a doberman that i walked everywhere with. I would make her down stay and go inside a store, buy things and she would NOT move. She was a fantastic dog, but she was well trained. Now, i just have to work on my goofy goober of a GSD. 🤣😂🤣 He is a ding dong. He will heel nicely, sit when i stop. But getting him to stay is a completely different story. Lol

I know that you know your stuff without doubt but just a thought:
1, would it not be better to down stay in a shaded area?
2, Do you not have issues there with a dog off leash. Not a problem to me but some do like to interfere.

Bad idea.dog can get stolen, someone can wsnt to pet the dog ,another dog can attack it etc
Back before i had a car and was living in a sober house, i used to take the manager's dog(a gorgeous red nosed pit bull) for walks. One day, i decided to get some groceries from the Stop & Shop nearby and left the dog tied up outside(which in hindsight i should not have done, as someone could have easily stole her or something, but i did.)
When i came out and untied the leash from the pole, i heard someone say it a somewhat rude manner, "is that pit bull?" I look up and see this woman grilling with an almost disgusted look on her face like i was Adolf Hitler or something.
I said, "yes, would you like to pet her?" and she low key flipped out on me, talking about how crazy and/or stupid i was, and how dangerous what i did is, especially with kids around, etc.
I've always been a "kill them with kindness" kind of person, so i just made a few polite responses, and started walking home.
I mean i get it, she doesnt know me or the dog, i was a young "kid"(probably 19 or 20), and i imagine I'd be a bit skeptical about a random pit bull tied to a pole with no owner in sight. But it's not like you had to go anywhere near her to get in or out of the store. She was at least 50 or 60ft from the(closest) entrance. I also would make the assumption that the dog was dangerous, and i certainly wouldn't talk to someone the way she talked to me.
Luckily for all involved, like i said, she lived in a sober house full of people, with strangers walking in and out all day long. She rarely even got up if someone rang the doorbell or just opened it and walked in, and was also constantly around other dogs, and there were even two cats in the house.
Like i said though, i shouldnt have left her in front of a giant grocery store where i couldnt keep an eye on her, so i own up to that.

I also try to remind myself, not to talk to the dog because sometimes they will react by barking
And as usual, when around a strange dog, you never know what they’re gonna do
I know we all love dogs here

After all, you haven’t asked permission to say hello to the dog

Has anyone ever tried to steal a dog? ONE DAY my girl will down stay with no leash! She’s still figuring out PLACE on her cot. She will listen once there, but won’t go unless I stand by it, point, and give the command. 😢

the scary part is dog hunters might give something to your dog while u not there, would never do this , heard real stories of such thing happening to others.
One time a dog was taken here in the neighborhood, because people think the dog was to long staying outside. But the owner was getting her child from school and dogs aren’t allowed here. Maybe a sign ‘ my owner will be right back’. I never do this. I’m to scared, I don’t trust people. And my dog loves everybody. Luckily my dog can stay alone for a view hours. But if he knows I get ice cream without him…. He will be very mad at me 😂

I tried this once. Someone tried to take him and unfortunately strangers aren't scared of a 5 foot woman lmao. But otherwise a great training example!

isn't this illegal. At least in the state I'm in that dog needs to be on a leash.
I leave them there with their leashes on and they stare so intently, ignoring people, as trained, that people don't mess with them. Have folks come in and ask who's dogs those are though...
Just because something is “illegal” doesnt mean people wont do it. Besides leash laws are pretty stupid when you think about it.

I can't do this. It might be a bulldog thing, even if I'm out with my family and the dog, when I go to the toilet all that dogs that I have owned don't like it and want to go with me.
