this documentary had done in the north of saudi arabia, 2 of falconers was died “god bless them” but still this vedio useful as huge falconry reference, great job, thank you for sharing us. ((guys where is thumbs up for such vedio ?! i heard it’s free on youtube 😉))
Yeah... much better than the ones where they shoot the falcon for not hunting well...I so wish the to Shieks who died (the one into falconry and keeping the Houbara on the planet... and bag limits uner 200 A DAY) and the sheik who is responsible for the Spix Macaw being alive... now those are MEN
I am amazed that you managed to get in the camp and interact with the falconers!! I don't know many students that have the resources or the courage to get such thing done. Great work!! very informative!! Thank you very much for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words Mohammed. Having been raised in the middle east, learned to speak arabic at 5 years old, it took a lot of courage and respect of the culture. I had not been back to the kingdom for many years, so it took a while for the language to come back when I returned after University. It was an amazing experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Very fascinating. I was fortunate to witness a falconer during my trip to Kuwait in 2012. I did not imagine so much went into the sport. Thanks for posting!
I’m aviation pilot 👨✈️ from Kuwait child of my family since 6 years he should know about 1 falcons 2 calms 3 horses 4 hunting of course a lot of Arabian families same my family I’m happy for this amazing video thanks a lot
Thank you. Falcons- a real symbol of power. "I am the guiding Light that illumineth the way. I am the royal Falcon on the arm of the Almighty. I unfold the drooping wings of every broken bird and start it on its flight." ~ Baha'u'llah
One of the best TH-cam's video on the subject. Unfortunately as you concluded, this is now considered as archaic and it's hard to find serious and relevant information on the subject. We want more!
This documentary was very well put together. The narration, content and explaniations is wonderful and professionally done. (The narrator has a very nice, commanding voice) That said, I hate seeing these birds (any bird really) captured. They are too magnificent a creature to have it held in captivity. They should be free to fly and hunt for themselves. Again, great job on the informative documentary! Have you done more?
+Christi W Hi Christi, this was my first and last documentary on the art of Falconry. It lead me down the road to doing other documentaries, but not on Falconry. I'm still involved with television, but not shooting documentaries anymore. Thank you for the comments and glad you enjoyed it.
what so many people do not understand about falconry .......is the beneficial relationship falconers have with the birds....they are not "held in captivity" as a caged bird in a zoo is, you see no cages here.....the birds ARE free to fly away if they want to.....and ....sometimes they do....
I would imagine that a Saker/Peregrine hybrid could potentially be an extremely versatile hunter... having both the instincts of ground and aerial hunting running through it.
Saker peregrine are nice but we much prefer gyr peregrine or gyr sakers because of the gyrs large size mixed with the instincts of the Saker or peregrine
+Dembereldorj Dorjchuluun Hello, sorry for the late reply. Been working on other projects and not following up on the video lately. I appreciate the invitation, but due to other television work I cannot take on another falconry documentary at this time. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm in Canada apprenticing here..my goal is to come to Mongolia to learn from the best eagle falconers. I want to fly eagles over coyote here in Canada one day.. Falconry forms and consumes you're life..
Thanks for the comment. I didn't get to do a full presentation, but showed the rough draft to my college professors. They gave me some pointers before I geared up to go back for the 2nd half of production.
35:15 Best chase ever! Rabbit outsmart 3 hunting dogs. Got me cheering for the rabbit from start to end. Glad to see it escaped. 35:00 Falcons lined up in the truck like a clan of assassins. And they are truly assassins.
Ummmm you are missing the point, those dogs are not like greyhounds. Sure they are fast but they also have better stamina so they also tire down the prey
I'm descendent of a family that is just like the people that are shown in the video. It's impressive how this documentary is accurate and informative. I appreciate your hard work.

Just over a year and a half. The first part I did right up until January 14th before the first gulf war which started on the 16th. I then came back the following winter and finished shooting the remaining pieces I needed.
GREAT WORK..very close to our real culture and it tells ppl that arabs r not all terrorists >>very informative i love falcons wish i learn how to hunt with them .
why do they wear these huge coats, is it cold there in september? excellent footage and explenation, thank you ps i love what they did with their pick up truck, total boss style
+ramon campeador Hello Ramon. Thank you for the comments. Yes at certain times of the documentary it was winter time and it got very cold. Being out in the desert totally exposed to the wind and lack of ground cover it was hard to stay warm unless we dressed in those coats till it heated up later in the day. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice documentary. Thank you for sharing. Sakers are preferred by the Arabian falconers because they are done moulting by the begining of the hunting season. Northern migrant peregrines from the Arctic will not be done moulting before december. Therefore the juveniles (farkh) are preferred to the hagards peregrines (garnas). Hagard peregrines have little value in traditionnal arab falconry. Their character is also very unstable as they have been migranting already. The hagard in the video is probably a juvenile caught bird and moulted in captivity.
Hi andy. Awesome documentary, i have a question and hope you can help me with it. In the documentary it it mention that shooting was in north of saudi , can you tell me exactly closer to which city? Because I'm in north and i go hunt and i think its the same area but not sure ! Thanks
Nice work Andy. I don't really have much experience in Video shooting/editing, but isn't there any way to enhance the quality to HD ? I mean as u said, would be nice to have it in HD quality.
Hi Leo, Thanks for the comment. After Effects just released a new version that allows detail preserving upscale. It allows upscaling all the way to 4K. When I get some free time, I'm going to run some tests with this documentary and see how it looks. I'll repost the video in the higher frame size if it enhances it enough.
Dear Andy Edwards, I would like to get in touch with you regarding this documentary of yours. With your permission we would like to use it in a visitor Centre here in Dubai, UAE. Can you please let me know how I can reach you? Via email, text or call. Please let me know. Thank you.
Many can't see this side of arabia because their too focused on the wars. Yet out cultures and traditions run deeper in our blood that's why we don't want anyone harming one inch of a peaceful place like that. In the desert many strong man have came to us and in this same desert many beautiful women were alive. God bless the land of Musliams where ever they are. Amen
Hi Shaalan, Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. It has been years since I made this and the composer name escapes me right now. We had a 28 piece orchestra put together the music in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. I'll see if I can locate more information and post back.
When they first trapped and wrapped that Falcon (Saker I believe) They put her in so much stress. She was very distressed you could hear it; I didn't like that aspect and prefer the new world method that is far more gentle and welcoming, to build trust and a mutual respect.
Fantastic atmosphere in this video! The music, the narrator, the shots, the land cruisers and the falcons doing what they do best 👍
This is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Very informative about Falconry!
Andy, you've done a great job here. I'm a licensed falconer of 20 years and am amazed at the new insights you have portrayed in this video. Well done!
Thank you Lee. Glad you enjoyed it.

It was a custom piece I had done by a orchestra in Egypt. Some of the other songs in the video were from music libraries.
