    Basher stealing that birdie, how dare he! Great play all around on #8. Cool looking course but looks hard! Green looked a bit fried, those are always tough to putt. Clubhouse looks like a mini 🏰. Great find and you can't beat the price!

      They have no money so during lock down the fairways didn't get cut and they have no irrigation for the greens. But hell yes it was tough. Oak trees in the middle of the fairway! I've got 5 more 9 holer courses to visit when I get round to it.

    Like the new logo.
    Lovely course, lovely weather and there was an old man playing golf.
    Enjoyed the video fairways looked like 1st cut of rough.
    Thanks, looking forward to the 9 hole series. 😁

      I found this in my spam folder! Thankyou Tubebuddy LOL
      They don't have any money so only the greens were cut during lock down. The fairways were about 2 inches long as you can't cut down to fairway height from 9 inches in one go. They will be fine in a week or so. But those oak trees! I don't hit a high ball so they were a stuggle even with a 9 iron.

    My Brother in Law and I played Haigh Hall GC near Wigan yesterday to celebrate his 60th Birthday (he's such a youngster), it's a Council operated facility and it's Stunning!
    Due to no rain for 2 months, it's very firm and playing more like a Links than a Parkland course, but for £15 each, it's incredible value.

      Some of these small courses are wonderful. Granted some of them are farmers fields with flags in but there is a lot of quality out there too. I'm playing a really short place on Thursday after work. Going to have to manage myself quite a bit.

      @@thehairygolfer I'm not a long hitter by any means but I really struggle if I can't use my driver on Par 4 & 5's. As soon as I start using my 3wood or hybrid off the tee things go quickly downhill!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@banditbaker1675 I understand that. The driver is large and teed up 2 inches. It is a confidence club and despite not much loft can be easier to hit. If you are hitting up on it then it's like using a tennis raquet hitting a ball up that is low down.

    Played here a couple of years ago and was a lovely course, played 18 holes at the nearby Newent golf club last week which has been beautifully kept.
    I am playing Dymock tomorrow afternoon, I'd like to say watching this will somehow improve my game! Highly doubtful... great video! Keep them coming.

      I hope they have got on top of the greenkeeping now and Dymock is back to normal. That is one tough course with the trees in the fairway. Enjoy!

      Those oak trees made it brute despite being short. Going to go back when the fairways have been cut properly but they are short of money being a small place.

    Only the true cognoscenti appreciate 9-hole courses,Royal Worlington has been amongst the top UK courses for many years and I fondly remember the 9-hole course at Auchenblae with superb greens and an honesty box.
    That course looked splendid with those magnificent oak trees .... 'Hearts of Oak'!
    Tell 'Basher' he played better with his shirt tucked IN not hanging OUT ... what's the world coming to ... letter to the committee ....
    I have already recommended Evesham's Fladbury Links which is 9-holes,another favourite of mine is at Welford-on-Avon which started as a 9-hole course but has now grown to 18.
    The owners who are a really nice local farming family did the job properly and had Hawtree golf course design company lay the course out and it's a joy to play.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Poor Basher getting it in the neck again. He doesn't mind a bit of piss take. I will be looking at Fladbury Links. I've got about 6 courses to play. Makes a change from Lilley Brook for the viewers.

    That course looks like it has a really fun layout! That's cool that it has no irrigation

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't have many courses over here with fairway irrigation. Only the big tournament places. But 99.9% have green sprinklers. The fairways are left to be wet or dry with the weather. I can think of 2 18 hole layouts who have no water on the course near me. They do suffer when we have a dry spell like we are having now.

    Looks like a very nice course fairways a little thick, and greens a little bumpy, but hopefully they will get sorted out through the season.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure they are dropping the cutting height every week. I don't think you can cut from 9 or 10 inches down to normal height in one go. It was fine though. We enjoyed it.

    Great video. You are such a straight driver of the ball! What is your swing thought(s) on drives with the driver?
    Sounds like "Golf Sidekick" @3:46!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Golf Sidekick is my mentor. I aspire to be as good as him. Won't happen but I try. I have been pretty straight for a long time, I switched to hitting a fade and it made a huge amount of difference over the pull hook I was playing with! Mostly my thoughts are timing and not trying to bust a gut for 5 extra yards. The 7 iron feet togther drill makes up half of my practice. Have a look here for some of my thoughts. th-cam.com/video/ziuIYdLYuns/w-d-xo.html

    That has the be the cheapest place to play golf. The only thing is that the fairways seem a little thick and maybe the greens are probably 7mm? We have a course here too where they charge Euro 20 for all 18 holes, but the fairways are really, really bad....., but the good thing is that the Euro 20 includes lunch!!!!!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have no money so during lockdown only the greens were cut. The fairways were 50mm long as you can't cut them down to height in one go but have to take several cuts. I'm playing one on Thursday night which is £9 for 9 holes but if the 1st tee is clear you can go round again. If it's busy you can't hang around waiting. Euro 20 including lunch? That is good.

      I'm going to start small with ball markers. Trouble with shirts is having to place a large order to start with. Plus I want embroidery and not screen printing. It's a big risk if I don't sell them. But it's going to happen one day.

      @@thehairygolfer good luck with Thailand Simon, do you think we'll be travelling by November?
      One of the guys at the golf club was saying he had a trip planned to his family in Australia in April, obviously cancelled and he's in the process of trying to recoup his money for that...the agents have already told him that he needs to expect a massive price increase when we start flying again and he tries to rebook.
      How long are you hoping going to Thailand for? Perhaps a good opportunity to create content whilst you're out there too 👍

    Did you say 8 pounds for 18 holes? Did I hear that right?

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is right. Normal is £12.50 for 18. Fairways need to be cut down slowly. They don't have any money and only looked after the greens in lock down and they don't have any sprinklers so have been using a bowser. Playing one tonight that is £9 for 9 holes. It's very short so I could use driver every hole.......but I won't. Got to use your mind to score well.

      The Hairy Golfer great prices and great value. I like that you are showing courses that are very affordable and accessible to anyone in the area. Yes the greens looked a bit dry and the course could use some maintenance but for the price it looks to be a great deal. Yes position is everything
