    I ran my truenas server with 4 4TB drives in a RAID10 configuration with only 8GB of RAM. I ran it this way for months with no issues. ZFS, like many other filesystems, benefits from large amounts of free ram but it is not necessary.

    I wish it could install more RAM. The 16gb limits VMs and memory requirements for ZFS.

    The boot section is more than just the kernel think of it as a snapshot manager that can allow you to switch versions of the OS you are running so if you do a version upgrade and you are having problems you can go-to boot and switch back to the old version and reboot and you are done with no outage outside of the reboot time. Also if I remember correctly you can swap between scale and core right from Boot so if you decide you want to switch from core to scale or scale to core you can do that without losing your ability to step back

    Question, so if I were to turn up 4 more additional drives on this server using a SATA adapter. What would I use for a power source? Would it another external power source or csn I draw additional power from the server?

      Cancel it.
      X86 anything is better than ARM anything. Hands down.

    Discovering the Zimablade. It looks nice for some projects. I am actually looking at NAS/Media server solution. I will try with an old laptop i5 gen 2 to test Truenas Scale and see from there. I was tempted to work on a Jonsbo N2 / N5105 motherboard, old Dell desktop or just a Qnap

    It seems that there is no mention of ECC (Error Correcting Code) RAM support in the specifications or reviews of ZimaBlade. Does it support ECC RAM?

    • @HaimPeretz
      @HaimPeretz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not supported. I don't understand why he said that this is the ultimate TrueNAS without such missing feature when ZFS using RAM more than other OS 🤷🏻

    • @BrianThomas
      @BrianThomas ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HaimPeretz yeah I agree, which is why I was asking. I didn't see ECC RAM posted anywhere. Thanks for the reply

    Hi there I am trying to set up a system like that for streaming media, home assistant, some containers and light virtualization. I am a bit worried about transcoding 4K tho. Is it possible to run Plex or Jellyfin inside TrueNAS and still being able to access and display 4K content from other devices? What about Dolby Atmos?

    I like the look of this mini nas. I currently cannot find the nas kit with the case on their website yet. do you know when that would be available?

    • @basdfgwe
      @basdfgwe ปีที่แล้ว

      looks good till you have to continiously clean it. Imho zimablade looks interesting to tinker with, with a nas its going to sit in one spot for a while and dust will get in and you'll forever be cleaning it.

    Awesome video Don! I have a question related to TrueNAS Scale though. I'm going to have an E5-2699 v3 with 128GB of RAM running as a home server soon. I currently run Proxmox and have TrueNAS Core setup as a VM and passthrough my SATA controller.
    Having experience with both OSes, do you suggest running Scale bare metal on the new machine, or installing Proxmox and running TrueNAS Scale as a VM? I'm looking to play around with VM's for gaming, Kubernetes, and Docker for Jellyfin, AdGuard Home, Pi-Hole, etc.. for context.
    Thanks in advance!

    It sounds good; but the NAS kit is in the same price range as the Asustor 1102T (with 2.5Gb Ethernet, PSU, 3y warranty, etc).
    I guess it all depends what you want to do with your setup.
