The Frivolous Fears of the Scary Logo Community

- Being a connoisseur of logo design, graphic design and motion graphics, we can all relate that we're used to be scared of multiple logos as kids back in our childhood.
However, I have seen a lot of malarkey going on in the subsection of the logo community known as the infamous "Scary Logo Community".
Look, it's one thing to be scared by logos as a child, and still scared of them, depending if it still gave you a shiver or fright.
But there's another to just overreact - for real - over scary logos, even the majority of ones that aren't remotely "scary" at all. (e.g. the cheap animation, synthesized music played on keyboards, ambient music and the likes)
I can understand being scared of HORROR related logos, as they're meant for shock value, but having KIDS seeing horror related logos - being ones that are serious and not under the mature age demographic - is just ridiculous.
Also to some extent, I can understand being scared of some logos as long as you're okay with it.
I've been holding my rant on that community back for so long, but f--k it.
This video explains why. I think this needs to be said, coming from a logo design aficianado. Although I cannot say I'm the only one who thinks that.
I am also not saying this to anyone who is scared, or remotely scared of logos, even some of my friends and fans, as long as they don't freak out over it.
Most of the logo enthusiasts - even some of my friends, don't freak out over scary logos every day. Some actual logo enthusiasts also make their own lists on what logos scared them in a more mature fashion, which is what I expect.
Be forewarned that there are some hot takes on some logos, so don't take what I say too literally or seriously. It is also not meant to offend anyone.
I hope this video is entertaining enough, as despite the editing mistakes, I still feel proud of it.

I think what scared most ppl as kids was less the logos themselves and more the context in which they viewed the logos. You gotta remember these logos would often come on without any warning immediately before or after a programme. If you’re watching tv alone at night, the darkness of the room would just highlight what’s going on on the screen to the forefront of your mind and make these logos stand out to you more which could possibly lead to them seeming more scary to you. Or it could be that someone just falls asleep while letting a dvd play and a loud crusty logo is there to wake them up in the middle of the night, that would definitely be an effective jumpscare. Maybe I’m talking out of my ass here, but this is a theory that I have heard before and does sound plausible to me. I mean I actually relate to you on being alone as a kid and thinking the tv was gonna blear some random logo at me in the middle of the night. As a kid small jumpscares can seem a lot more devastating than they do as an adult.
I wasn't really alone in my house, but rather my room.
I was a weird kid back then, so that thought of a "scary" logo blasting at loud volume never happened, for real.
Again, that aforementioned H-B logo did not scare me. It's just cartoon sounds playing.
@@Wodienfor yeah that is fair. I wouldn’t really have that thought with logos I considered “scary” it was more so just stuff that unnerved me like the sound that plays when the gamecube logo transitions into the console’s menu. That sort of weirdly pitched droning sound crept me out a little, despite never even owning a gamecube as a kid.
@@sammykenobi6307 That never creeped me out as a kid when I used to play on the Gamecube. I was rather interested when that happened.

@@sammykenobi6307 Exactly. I wasn't the best at playing games, though I do remember playing on the Gamecube and the PS2. The latter having a "please insert the PS2 or PS1 disc" error which I do classify as scary.
The error did make me shiver the first time I saw it, I will admit.
Damn, a person who was formerly on the logo community showcasing how strange of a place it is in commentary form, now that’s entertaining!
Ok exaggeration aside, I kinda like this video. I think it represents perfectly how it feels like to be obsessed over some niche thing for quite a while (like logos which I was obsessed before, I still am but as a much minor/side interest). It’s probably the first real interest or obsession I ever had in my life in general. But from my ups and downs in the LC, I’m just glad I made some online friends thanks to it (notably some of the greats from the community)
I started to like logos and brands because they give me that weird abstract dreamy vibe especially some of the "scary" logos you shown. I just hate how these kids exploited the crap of my own Pingu Outro gag/fad and my old logo content. I wasn't here for logo edits or contribute in the community but rather share my love and dedication to it and it was a past obsession that I had. The logo communities ruined my fun in enjoying logos.
I now look logos independently and in recent years I tried attempt to revive my fantasies lore of logos and company stuff and even I brought a new name that's more part of my "QWE" lore. Although I may not get onto it that much I have a TH-cam channel that'll showcase the brands and archival place for my old ones. I had a new wiki for it as well but it quickly got shutdown because of lack of activity, I wish I had them backed up.
I feel you.
I mainly like logos for the aesthetics, design choices, the right colour palettes, the overall execution of it and the likes.
It's safe to say that the toxic part of the logo community nearly ruined my interest in logo design, or graphic design in general.
As someone who has a hyperfixation on scary logos i can confirm that the community is a bit weird lol (i think the community consists of weird little kids hyperfixated on logos, myself included lol)
EDIT: when u showed the viacom logo i actually flinched and covered my screen because i was a bit worried that "ThE BnD oF dOoM" would show up lol
I don’t remember what year I was into logos. The only year I can remember the most is 2010 because of the “Scary Logos” Collection. It turns out, it wasn’t scary as I expected. About the characters reacting to Logos, when I was 11-12,there are few I found are very funny and entertaining when I watched DEVINURDOG’S Pokémon Adventures and Deleted Episodes that features the logos. (He is probably few of the people who were responsible for characters reacting to logos because I’ve seen people make videos of his style before.)
Yes, I was scared of logos back then as few examples you mentioned was Hanna Barbera and the obvious Klasky Csupo Robot Logo because of unexpected appearance,even the night. (I still find the robot concept is very questionable.) Now, my logo/graphic design taste has been humbled than being an obsession when one time one of my OCs were wearing clothes of logos from companies I don’t even own.(Thankfully, I redesign for the better.)
These logos are pretty worthy for my possible upcoming songs as samples and piano covers.

It really puts up with all the damn logo editing shit out of the core.
Man, I can relate you (mostly). I got scared by other logos in my childhood and now most of them can't scare me anymore. By the way, the “scary” logos never bothered me (except BND, but I stopped being scared by it quickly).
I'm still scared of some logos now in adolescence, but mostly they're underrated or extremely weird (like *actual* disturbing imagery or strange music).
Logo Kids are annoying and edit videos are boring as heck. And I understand horror logos because they are like that intentionally, so *WHY* you watch them at that young age anyway.
So, by the end, I like “scary” logos because these ones can be interesting for other reasons and not for the “creepiness”.

my experience with the scary logo world was stumbling upon the (at the time) heavily vandalized scary logos wiki where every page had category upon category called nonsense like "logos that scare dora the explorer" and "logos that make freddy fazbear cry" and thought it was utter fascinating seeing something so wild
my thoughts on why there's so many kids in these sorts of spaces is that i think there's definitely a group of kids out there that see something that scares them and decide that they want to keep looking at it out of curiosity or a sake of maybe trying to overcome that fear? it would explain why mascot horror games are so exceedingly popular with children for sure
the reason they get so scared of these easily is probably just because most of these logos are "dudes from the 80s who just got a synthesizer for the first time making something they think sounds futuristic and cool", which ends up creating weird dissonant notes. i think ben of oddity archive also said something similar to that

I bet this logo or this part caused everyone to have a headache, their throats hurting, their eyes and ears bleeding, their speakers breaking and cracking open, the uranium and plutonium leaking out from the speakers, the radiation causing everyone to mutate horribly, their skin melting off their bones, their muscle tissue swelling and drying out if it has been cooked by a microwave, their bones liquefying and boiling and all of them congealing into a single squirming mass of radioactive monstrosity and dying of slowing horrific death over the course of several days while their internal organs rupture with tumors and their blood turns into a rotten black sludge that burns through their arteries and the radiation quickly spreads through town to possibly afflicted it's citizens with the same terrible fate. It'll be the most terrible biological incident in the history of the planet earth, and Colombiana de television logo will forever stand testament to the horrors of radiation death.

Something interesting about that music is that *no one* knows where it came from, even people who worked at the company doesn't know about it too.

i was a part of the object thingys before, i didn't like the community though. i fucking hate when logo kids ruins my favorite logo, its like a toddler knocking down my jenga tower in recess. logos never scare me, except for the THX logo. when i was a child, my mom pops out the ice age dvd and inserts it into the dvd player, all i see in the beginning is the THX logo. i run away to the hallway and skip the logo because of the rising noise. thats all i have to say.

Well, just to clarify that their are some scary logos there that can sometimes scare me, and sometimes not, but their are also scary logos that are just bad and so on, so yeah.
Those Paramount Feature Presentation X times scarier videos are basically the final boss of horror logo remakes, and are regulary 1-3 hours.
I do remember doing a PFPXTS video back in 2020. As of 2023 I really hate it.

Same, also even before I joined I mainly did edits in mobile before I joined TH-cam in 2021 and still even though it was kinda regretful when I was a child, im glad im not in the community because I didn't had a yt channel back then. Also I prefer the older one though in my op from Kyoobur9000, GLados996 and other ones like Burger414 (might of remembered) and RieB79. Keep in mind although logo editors post too many videos a day like 6 for example it's like they don't have breaks which is a little suprising for me. So yeah I belive that logo editors changed throughout the years making videos like: Klasky Csupo in G Major V21483952385982358926435 and: (VERY SCARY DON'T WATCH) Random logo or ident 69 Times Scarier it's just weird and lame at the same time. So yeah logo edits are pretty bad nowadays along with KineMaster users that's all.

And speaking of scary logos, MGM celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and one of the most scariest of them all are the various lions of MGM from Slats, Jackie, Coffee, Tanner, George to Leo, and it’s also part of the scary logo community.

Same here, really. I used to watch some Pingu and Children's Favourites VHS tapes when I was little - that has both the 90s and '97 logo, and I have some Top Gear DVD's that has the latter logo.

Not gonna lie,for most logos i can see why people are scared of it. Like with the viacom logo (im not scared of it) music being seen as off putting via how distorted it is mostly and also that music making the person think that something bad is going to happen. (also bnd of doom edits being ultra goofy.)

I still find the music on these logos, particularly the Viacom V of Doom cheap sounding and not scary, personally.

I already mentioned Horror Factory, but that is a scary logo from a horror movie.
The 1986 VCI logo on the other hand doesn't fall into the category of being scary. Just a really good 80's logo with a catchy jingle.
