The song has a deep meaning. The title name guilty is basically about how he debuted at a young age and didn’t have control over his life. He was called a girl bc of how he acted and looked. The grown ups around him would make him uncomfortable and touch him in ways that you shouldn’t. It’s basically abt the grown people and the environment he was in/around taking away his innocence which makes him feel guilt. The little boy holding onto his leg was basically him as a kid wanting closure and security that he never had. And in the mv music video you could see people’s hands around him and touching him. That’s protrayed as the grown people who took away his innocence at a young age.
Especially during Sherlock Era and how badly he was sexualized, I especially when the TV hosts making comments how he was very "girly looking" if he danced to a KARA song. (Which he did, with Key). I bet that is very traumatizing for him when he was just a teenager and having all these grown adults sexualize him. I'm glad he had his SHINee members as a support system. Watching the Guilty MV your comment is the exact vibe I got from it as well. \
Yh I remember in their episode in knowing bros where they would constantly tease him about being girly and even made him kiss one of the cast . It was uncomfortable to watch
I agree with most of what you said EXCEPT the person being manipulated is Taemin rather than a girl. In Guilty, Taemin takes on the role of both the Victim and the Victimizer. The lyrics are from the POV of the manipulator/abuser while Taemin in the MV is being portrayed as the Victim. The leg grabbing and scratching part are actually Taemin if you look again. The early scenes of Taemin being grabbed and spun and touch by these random men positions him as the victim as well. Then partway through it switches and you see Taemin with the feather crown and skirt dancing on the car and he's taking the role of the person in control manipulating and ruling the others as a cult leader or a god. (This MV was influenced by the book Demian which depicts a bird-like/feathered god, Abraxas. Taemin spoke heavily about how he was referencing that book for this comeback.)
Taemin is so special! What a talent he is the full package the dance king and such an insane voice too! He always a step ahead and creates his own sound different from the music that is trendy , for me the most iconic soloist artist in kpop , spectacular discography
I’ve been realizing that Lou is the deep thinker and always come with the “this is that cause xyz “ and Ous is the “did you feel that sh!t, see that sh!t” whatever the other misses, the other sees definitely the perfect duo 😂🙌🏽
I used to say SM does everything right when it comes to Taemin. Since Criminal tho, I got a bit more into him, so now I can say with confidence it's not SM, it's Taemin. He just knows what he wants to convey, and even if he doesn't write most of his music or makes his choreos or even directs his MVs, it is crystal clear to me everything comes from him. I can tell he is a great manager because he is able to gather a team that executes his vision, so now, more than ever, I am in awe of his artistry.
There are a few things you MUST remember when interpreting Taemin's lyrics: 1) The simplest explanation is NOT the true interpretation (opposite from the philosophical argument of Occam's razor). 2) Taemin is deep into philosophy and regularly explores various world philosophies. 3) Many of Taemin's lyrics are directed inward to his psyche and history, spanning across a storyline illustrating different philosophies as his concepts for each song. 4) Using those philosophies along with religious symbolism, metaphors, and allusions to illustrate their conflict with his Christian faith (Taemin is Catholic). So, when putting all that together, we need to look at all the details to figure out the deeper, true meaning behind the surface reading of the lyrics. In short, this is not a toxic relationship between a couple. It's in fact the continuation of his struggle between the two egos in his mind (indicated by the hand inside his shirt grabbing himself -- it's coming from inside himself): the demon tempting him with the perks of his celebrity life clashing with his Christian self desiring to adhere to his Christian worldview. The person clinging to the attendant's leg is Taemin himself. He's trying to cling to his faith-based identity. He digs his fingers into his flesh to feel pain and bring him back to or hold onto reality. This story of his personal conflicts also plays out in his MVs/songs for "Want", "Famous", "Criminal", and "IDEA" (in fact the entire "Never Gonna Dance Again" Acts 1 & 2 albums), and "Advice". For this particular song/MV, Taemin indicated that he researched both "Demian" by Hermann Hesse and ""Erotism: Death and Sensuality" by Georges Bataille, a French philosopher. His concept is that of guilt and how humans process their guilt. For Taemin, this is displayed through the character he plays of Abraxas (gnostic demigod of a heretical sect, the Basilides, later referred to as a demon). However, Taemin also plays the character of himself being tormented by this demon who constantly plagues him. The entire song is a dialogue between Abraxas and Taemin. During the dialogue, Taemin is struggling (the choreo) to fight off being possessed and swallowed completely by Abraxas. We see Taemin walking through institutions of his memory such as a school (which, as an introvert, he hated), hospital/mental institution (brainwashing), and training center (SM?), always being controlled and in situations that produce temptations to go against his values. If he is not constantly vigilant, "....when you've caught on (Abraxas), I'm already gone (Taemin)." In other words, he will lose himself instantly because the temptations are so appealing and addictive (as illustrated in his MVs for "Want" & "Famous"). The "poison apple" is the bait, (again just like in "Want" & "Famous")..."want a bite?" "Just a little more, that's all it takes." "Gift you once as a bait, then I (Abraxas) take everything." The demon is the father of lies. The pre-chorus and chorus are actually further dialogue between Taemin (pre-chorus) and Abraxas (chorus): [Pre-chorus] Ooh-ooh (On that vague border between good and bad) You played the fool for me (My judgment in the final moment) [Chorus] Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh You got me G-U-I-L-T-Y Trick and take everything from you Again, just playing a game all for fun Hundreds of lies Ooh yeah Taemin is a genius when it comes to interweaving layers of meanings into his lyrics (which he often rewrites/tweaks from SM samples) and leaving us spellbound, trying to arrive at the deepest look into his psyche. This is why he is the ultimate artist for me. Yes, I love his dancing, but it's his lyrical and musical prowess that truly captivates me, while also gratifying my desire for deeper, meaningful Christian messaging that is usually lacking in regular Christian music.
Thanks for this break down, it's really helpful😊 I was wondering for a while what the lyrics paired with the MV actually meant but I could only get to surface level conclusions. I really love this song and taemin's portrayal of it, so reading your explanation made me love it even more
Taemin has talked about the literature that inspired this concept: Erotism: Death and Sensuality by Georges Bataille and Demian by Hermann Hesse. Love that Taemin decided to do things his own way with his own colors. I don't see anyone else doing this concept, or even the way in which he does it. Just stunning! Great reaction KING-TPOP-ART
1:30 that’s exactly what I said. He showed his origins in this song for sure! It’s been on repeat. Oh and I loved your interviews with him. Please have him back!
Taemin said the song and video concept came from a 1957 book he had read that inspired him. 'L 'Erotisme by French philosopher George Bataille. George Bataille expressed his desire instrest to explore complex emotions. About emotions.
💎 What can we say other than THE KING IS BACK!? I absolutely love how deep Taemin’s songs and MVs are…they aren’t just entertainment or for clicks/views, but he tells a story. He wants to make people THINK and question and reflect. This isn’t something one can watch and then move on. His concepts are intellectual and personal. 💎 Regarding the song itself, his haunting whispers with the beautiful runs on top give me chills…the rap section was unexpected, but fit perfectly and suited the song more than I’d have imagined. I loved how the song switched gears in unexpected ways…there are certain formulas that most kpop songs follow, but this moved in ways I’d never imagined it would and it’s perfect. 💎 As far as the choreography…holy freaking moly. I KNEW it would blow my mind…of course it would-it’s Taemin! With that said, I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t some of his best work to date. It’s provocative without being slutty. Not only that, but you can SEE him being jerked around without any hands on him at all. Around the tenth time watching the video, I happened to notice some of what the background dancers were doing (it’s hard to peel my eyes from Taemin!). There are some genius moves that add to the overall look of the stage…some possibly inspired by breakdancing and some quite acrobatic. I STRONGLY suggest anyone who hasn’t yet to watch the Studio Choom and/or some (ALL) the live performances because the choreo is spectacular. The hips, the abs, the arms, the hands…HIS EYES & LIPS ~~ pure perfection. 💎 All I can really say besides the King has returned is, if loving Taemin is a crime, I’m “G-U-I-L-T-Y … Who's gonna punish me?” 💎
thank you so much for reacting to taemin’s guilty, the whole era has been iconic. would it be okay if you could also react to shinee’s hard and juice, i feel like you both would it like!! ❤
ol my theory for the MV is completely different 😭. My theory is that in a LOT of taemin's past work there's so much religious imagery. And Taemin often plays the "devil" role. (Consistently wearing all red, lots of snakes on him or going toward him, literally dancing in front of the gates of hell (all in the Want MV) or Idea's MV depicting him as an angel and then in dark clothing consumed by fire (presumably his fall from grace, since the devil was originally an angel)) And for this MV, keeping in line with his story line and the prologue video for this album- I think its a prequel where Taemin somehow thinks he's human. He's at some sort of facility (I think it might be a mental hospital of some sorts considering all these people dorming and living together and the presence of a doctor's chair and there are people watching them (the men in all white). I think Taemin is forced to do something he really doesn't want to do (maybe killing an animal? The prologue shows him being extremely anxious, having to hold and aim a gun, clawing into his own leg out of anxiety and then simply clinging onto an gaurd/instructor's leg) I think this event causes him to spiral mental/ allows him to finally reveal what he really is. And he's shown to be close with the other "patients" of the facility- so I think he originally inteds to liberate them/save them/set them free. I think this is when he starts wearing the crown we see in the MV, and the other patients start worshiping him. Although Taemin unintentionally drives them to insanity, their bodies start contorting, and eventually I think they all die or something because at the end Taemin is dazed and alone with nothing but the reminents of the uprising he caused. (Also there's a car on fire which is a reoccurring symbol in a lot of his MVs too.) I think this accidental corruption of people he intended to help causes him immense guilt. ((But this is just my theory lol))
Thank you for this reactionsssss!!!❤ To understand the guilty MV better, you need to watch the guilty trailer MVs in your free time, they're all mini stories that lead to the MV... He's actually the one holding onto the person's leg and he's clawing himself bc of the guilty he feels.... The trailers and behind the scenes explain it better
11:18 "The girl's holding him" Nope that's Taemin 😭 He's holding onto some man's leg, but has clawed into his own leg. Presumably out of anxiety, since he's seen using an inhaler right before.
Ous was extra unserious on this one. 😂 When he said "This man can box, why he going so fast" and did the lil hand movements, followed by "wtf you mean by that" with the Lil Kim meme dance had me holding in my laughter at 4 in the morn😭🤣 Anyways The Guilty video cinematography is A1, the trailer looked amazing and felt like a movie that I would watch. And the song is amazing, you never going to see Taemin not deliver the goods ever!👏
Let me say this. Kpop is very messy and hypocritical. This man has endured a lot at the hands of messy, can’t even compare to his worst performance people. Many of whom allegedly started the narrative about * guilty* and the fact of the matter is that it’s about trauma and narrated from two perspectives, but involves the same psyche. This is a very deep video. And people who KNOW should be very inspired by Taemin’s journey. This video is a nod to some of that. When you know, you know, and we are ten toes down for TAEMIN. Period.
You love how you guys really take the time to go through the MVs and think about the story behind it as well as hype haha. Looking forward to more reactions. If you have time please react to Dino from Seventeen's new song Wait :)
Been waiting for y’all to react to this Guilty MV! He’s guilty about killing someone in the video, someone he was forced to kill. Maybe his innocence, or his inner child?? Watch the teasers and trailers for this video to get the full story. Love how you love his art!!
Oooooohhhhh i love your reaction i was so pissed off when you guys didn't do TAEMIN GUILTY reaction i think because i wait for it every taemin or shinee comback that was cool thank youu and please do shinee MMA PERFORMANCE REACTION PLEASEEEE ❤
my interpretation of Guilty by Taemin is that we are guilty, not him. we as fans are guilty of supporting an industry that uses and abuses of idols since a young age. and the "love" fans have becomes an obcession to the point of harming the idols directly (saesangs). but I might be wrong :)

whoa 😮😮
There's a good deep dive of all this bits in a video : Taemin Guilty MV Explained
Taemin is definitely a beautiful artist, he’s art himself ✨
Taemin is ART
Taemin is so special! What a talent he is the full package the dance king and such an insane voice too! He always a step ahead and creates his own sound different from the music that is trendy , for me the most iconic soloist artist in kpop , spectacular discography

i think guilty talk about his past when he just debuted and what he went through at such a young age
Taemin is the king 👑
I love how Lou pays attention to the lyrics more and then Ous pays attention to the performance more, you guys are a balanced pair! ♡
4:18 “he don’t be making movies what the fuck is wrong with you” 😂😂😂
I literally love both of these songs
BM’s song ATAP… bruhhhhhh 🔥
And Taemins whole EP
Sooo good
There are a few things you MUST remember when interpreting Taemin's lyrics:
1) The simplest explanation is NOT the true interpretation (opposite from the philosophical argument of Occam's razor).
2) Taemin is deep into philosophy and regularly explores various world philosophies.

The pre-chorus and chorus are actually further dialogue between Taemin (pre-chorus) and Abraxas (chorus):
[Pre-chorus]
Ooh-ooh
(On that vague border between good and bad)
You played the fool for me
(My judgment in the final moment)
[Chorus]
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
You got me G-U-I-L-T-Y
Trick and take everything from you
Again, just playing a game all for fun
Hundreds of lies
Ooh yeah
Taemin is a genius when it comes to interweaving layers of meanings into his lyrics (which he often rewrites/tweaks from SM samples) and leaving us spellbound, trying to arrive at the deepest look into his psyche.

my interpretation of Guilty by Taemin is that we are guilty, not him. we as fans are guilty of supporting an industry that uses and abuses of idols since a young age. and the "love" fans have becomes an obcession to the point of harming the idols directly (saesangs). but I might be wrong :)
