Met Guy Lowe on a number of occsaions with his trusty parrot on his shoulder. He was getting Race Fuel from our Service station in Nelson for his race seasons.Quite a likeable character.RIP.
Thanks for the great video. I lived in greymouth and worked up and down the coast for two years loved the place and people amazing country. Big into road racing and go to all the racing back home here in Ireland.
Greetings from the home of the North West 200. Great video and encouraging to see street racing in a healthy state in your part of the world. RIP Guy Lowe. They all know the risks but would not have it any other way.
Gorgeous scenery. Sadly I've never heard of this event. I watch all the races in Ireland and the Isle of Man. We have many freedoms in the US, but for our own safety this type of racing would never be allowed here. Thanks for the video. I'm going to look for some onboard footage of this race.
There's an entire series of street races throughout nz. Greymouth, Hokatika, Wyndham etc. I've been to the Wyndham one a few times. Never street raced though, only circuit.
Jonathan, thanks for the great video. Sitting here in Northern Ireland with the snow lying outside and the old CBX tucked up in the garage. Can't wait until Spring to get out again. Your country looks spectacular, nice roads and not too much traffic. Must make an effort to visit the Southern hemisphere sometime soon. Regards, Alistair.
Great stuff mate! Was planning on going there after meeting a fella who participates from the Greymouth area but the man kept me down that day. Taking the week off thought to head down to Burt Munro next week. It still amazes me that NZ isn't better known for the street races. Or maybe it is and I was the only one not in the know.
The accident obviously put a dampener on the day. The price we pay sometimes, for the sport we love. I feel for his family and friends. Fantastic video though mate, really enjoyed the racing and the riding. I last rode over Arthur's Pass on my BSA B33 500 single in 1984. Still got the Beesa ( not on the road at the moment ) and hope to get down that way next Feb.
First vid i have watched of you and i love your concept of talking over the video instead of during the ride which avoids the sudden stops in ones talking, another idea for audio you can use is it put a purposely built sound recording device you can sit under either the main seat or pillion seat to really get more of the bikes sound while disabling the cameras audio recording and ridding of the air noise, havent flicked through your channel yet but hope your still posting
thanks still posting but going in to winter in NZ so will be quite but hope to have a new bike soon, looking at doing a set up like you suggest with an audio recorder. Cheers
Thnx, great footage of the race. Got quit a few different angles, good job. The trip to and from Greymouth looks fantastic. We'll be in Christchurch end of april next year. Hope to rent a bike for 2 days or so to do some riding. Any suggestions on rental places and routes are appreciated 😉
Not suer on rentals, I hear some people buy secondhand bikes then on sell them after their trips, TradeMe is a great place to look at motorcycles for sale in NZ :-)
Thanks Jonathan, i would like to ride the whole west coast to Wanaka one day.I know heaps of peeps have done it but it looks so good.Enjoyed the street races to!Are you going to the Burt Munro festival in Invergiggle ?Three of my mates are going from the Gold Coast..all expatriate Kiwis! I can't do it this year due to family commitments in December ..my Dad turns 80!So a trip to Napier for 10 days are in order over Christmas !
Im terrible at multi tasking so thats why i add the audio after also get the best bits of film in that way too, One day ill do one on the fly with a helmet mic
Very cool event! I didn't know it existed. it's great to see real road racing in all different parts of the world. I'm surprised they cancelled the day though. while it's very sad that somebody lost their life it's something that has to be expected when were talking about Motorsports especially motorcycle racing especially on a street course. it comes with the territory unfortunately this happens at the Isle of Man and other real road races through Ireland and they typically do not cancel the race is on that particular day. it really is unfair to the competitors who travel very far to compete but if that's what the organizers decided there's not much anybody can do. at least the fellow who lost his life did so competing of his own free will and doing something he was very passionate about which is a consolation in my opinion. I certainly rather perish engage in something I'm very passionate about than being passively taken out by a mundane life! 👍
Thanks, they didn't cancel the day just was about 3 hours after the accident till they started racing again. Always a worry that due to health and safety that these events get cancelled for good and would be a huge shame
Hi Jonathan......... One more great Motovlog. Hey our bikes arrive in Christchurch on the 13th of Feb Can you contact me I need some info on the roads up to Blenheim to Picton my email is on the open page of one of my Motovlog. Cheers
Hi Don, couldn't find your email, depends on if your keen to go off road as the molesworth track is a great road (haven't done it myself) otherwise as State Highways 1 is closed i would go over Arthurs pass to Greymouth up to Westport then up through Nelson thento Picton but you may need to take a night stop probably around 1000k in one hit
