This was the first race I ever had a bet on. 6d each-way (21/2p e/w) on St Paddy. I was 14. I used my Mum's name and sent off a postal order for the 1 shilling (5p) sum to McLachlan's the postal bookmaker. Got lousy odds, only 6/4, but the thrill of winning was priceless. First time I've seen film of the race. Shame film and sound are out of sync, and the finish isn't shown.

I used to send my money off to McLachlan's as well I was only a young lad had a treble for a shilling and won £5 this was at Royal Ascot.
A gastly underrated horse at paddy
First Derby winner I can honestly say I saw and remember , the doping gang tried to get to him , but he was well protected
