it's that moment when someone filming those short videos when some guy in a rage breaking a hardware lol. Ontopic - if the keyboard is cheap - it's not a surprise that something not working too soon
There is a Thinkpad Trackpoint wireless keyboard (75% layout) with a trackpoint + 'mouse' buttons. Not exactly a keyboard with a trackpad but the trackpoint + 'scroll' button can be used for scrolling.
I was doing my hunt a few years ago. I needed a solution for two HTPCs and required full keyboard, trackpad, and backlit keys. I found that the best solution was Logitech K830 and have two that I literally use everyday. I'm typing this message with one. Of course, the last one I bought was under $70. I would say give a new one a try, but $300 markup is ridiculous. I hope neither one of mine break. Best of luck!
i feel like every video, i’m discovering a new mega, interest of yours. keyboards, music, audio, video, apple iirc, let alone front end and all the related things covered by the channels. keep em coming, i wanna see more side tangent nerdery 😆
Right there with you. My long time K830 battery just gave up, and there is really nothing comparable. Think I'm just going to adhere an external battery to the back of it.
If you're open to non-trackpad keyboards I'd recommend the Lenovo Trackpolnt II keyboard. Have to admit I prefer the trackpoint over trackpads for Windows/Linux based systems, so that probably also influences my thoughts. Also the keys are good on this. Supports wired, dongle, and bluetooth, available on Amazon for like 100 bucks.
I had this issue a while back. Work on servers constantly, and unfortunately there is no good option. Bluetooth is a solid no. Tried k400, tried k830, tried the microsoft one.... damnit, just put a laptop trackpad and keyboard into a metal case and vmgive it a dongle. Is that so hard? No awful plastic trackpad and crappy click buttons and rubber dome switches, just a buckling glass trackpad and a mechanical keyboard transplanted out of a laptop. It's frustrating, and frustratingly simple. The answer is right there.
Logitech seems to have issues with consistent quality. I loved the size of their Pebble mouse but after about one week the mouse buttons start to fail. I tried three of them. Same for their keyboards. Love them but after a while the space key stops working. Not dirty or anything- it seems to be mechanical. So I also ended up with Apple for Mac, some keyboards from MacAlly and for Windows Cherry. K400 is great but I have the same issues you mentioned.
Maybe you could try something like a Lenovo Compact USB keyboard, however it doesn't have a trackpad... I'm halfway joking about it. Use it everyday though for writing, it's really good. I think there's a wireless version of it somewhere.
I love the k400! I even use it to play rocket league. I find them all of the time at thrift stores for about $5 and If it has the USB, I always get it. I have about 6 of them right now for when they break (and they do)
what's the issue with the apple kb + trackpad on windows? I've bought a magic trackpad to use on windows (i don't have a mac) and it worked great, only ended up returning it cus lightning is disgusting.
i have k400 on my couch for when i'm too lazy to stand up. Works fine so far. I doubt you'll find anything better. I've seen similar style keyboards only from no-name chinese brands on aliexpress
I had the MSFT one many moons ago when i spilled coffee on a Dell laptop. I got through it, but can say I do agree it's not the perfection you're looking for
just buy split, I can perfectly sit on couch with arms half meter apart resting on armrests. ZMK bluetooth is amazing, I tend to take my bluetooth dongle with me just in case other computers don't have builtin bluetooth. For trackpad you could use corne modded version with trackpoint or something like charybdis.
Corsair had wireless keyboard ( k83 ) with trackpad, pretty decent, i still use it with TV pc. it have 2.4ghz dongle and bluetooth. it can wake up pc. no problems at all. Maybe u can still find it somewhere in stock. --- after watching full video: u underestimated circle trackpad, its small, but it feels not bad, have scrolling gesture and overall pretty decent.
I wonder if you could just get someone to make you something, like a base or whatever, that can let you slide in a magic keyboard and an apple trackpad. Maybe that should be a product lol
Mm, Yes, the keyboard dilemma. I am at my end, Just throw the thing out. Why haven't they invented something other than a keyboard yet? Like what the hell?.
"We've all had those rage moments"
Brother don't include me in this 😂

Truly the frontend dev of keyboards
You forgot to include: "and no 1km spacebar, please"

The Rii K18 plus is also pretty dang good.

I wanted to get one recently to use a PC on my loungeroom TV. Not using a mouse on my couch..
You don't have high standards for features but for functionality
I am all for this.
Maybe the hhkb studio helps you. However instead of a trackpad it has a trackpoint. I dont know if it has a 2.4 gz dongle though…
I wonder if you could just get someone to make you something, like a base or whatever, that can let you slide in a magic keyboard and an apple trackpad. Maybe that should be a product lol
Kinda like a rigid phone case or whatever, but with space for a 60% magic keyboard and a trackpad
They make trays for this exactly but he doesn’t want Bluetooth
Mm, Yes, the keyboard dilemma.
I am at my end,
Just throw the thing out.
Why haven't they invented something other than a keyboard yet? Like what the hell?.
Even my $5 keyboard doesn't do that weird behavior, just buy a $5 keyboard at this point.
Aliexpress is filled with those.
Either go custom, or embrace it.
i thought gestures are handled by the os
We just need standard, and then you customize to the moon and not experience edgy compatibility issues.
Theo, do you have any mail that I can send some links to?
KBs, Mice or what ever you gizmo is, Bluetooth always sucks.
what games do you play?
Swappable switches is a must.
4.2/5 is too low rating? Bruh.
when every product is botted to be 5 stars, having a 4.2-star rating means it's shit.
