What a memorable way to end one's career. What a blast! Nothing beats reliving KaiTak as a way to create a lasting flying memory! Very generous and encouraging of you Capt.Obet
Hi Capt... awesome. Missed the experiences approaching into Kai Tak on jump seat of L1011 and the B742 which used to operate the PEN/HKG and KUL/HKG vv sectors. Which later replaced by A333 and the B777s. 100% love the stunts you guys did in the vid. Too bad, I have never got the chance to try the sim. Was arranging hard through flight ops but never get a slot. Thanks for the vid again.
Interestingly he went more left side than you normally used to see, maybe that was because of that easterly wind. Can't make it out but looks like quite a big number!
A DREAM last proficiency check full of fun and nice souvenirs between a real and very sympatic pro "band of brothers" as wrote Ernest Gann, who was one ot them.
I remember flying the hong-kong approach in the 737-800 full-motion sim, I think I was 13 at the time. Boy, that turn at the end really stresses you out, I gotta tell ya! Even with the flight director, I couldn't believe how steep I had to turn. I did land, but let's say it wasn't a very smooth landing, heh heh. I haven't been able to fly in a sim since, but that was the time of my life.
@@hariranormal5584 There's companies that hire out flight sims, I went to one of those. It was very expensive, think ~€100 for an hour. I would say it's worth it in the end, but it definitely feels overpriced
@@LunaProtogen Ahh I see. If you don't mind me asking but like do you plan to have a career in aviation based stuff or did you do it just purely for an hobby?
Whoever designed that airport was trying to test pilots."too low terrain pull up sink rate and your dreaded stick shaker" I am surprised nobody thumped into a building
@@pilot_obet BTW, from your video of Lateral & Vertical Navigation B747-400, I have a question: Why sometimes I see when the speed tape indicates say flaps 10, pilots start retract to flaps 5 in other models (737, 777…)? Is that 747 have different flaps retract procedures like your demonstration in the video? Thanks
Boy do I miss flying. Flew passenger on the Kai Tak approach and was exhilarating. One question, on that sim ride after rolling out on final, how close was that building on the left. Could have sworn the left wing would have hit it.
I hope he flow better than this throughout his career, though he very well might have been catching the , you know favorable tailwinds, all along. Gary happy retirement. you will be remembered by bank angles. Hahaha....
3 full grown boys horsing around and having fun.

Absolutely fantastic, about to retire yet he was like a kid with a new toy, the best sim video ever.

i think gary is going to need that simulator in his home office gary needs no magenta line that unpowered glide to landing was awesome
This is one of the best videos on youtube. People just havent seen it. Its such a special experience and very rare for the public to see.
@@kalashnikovdabs cheers
Interesting to hear how the graphics need to be updated to allow for new buildings. Absolutely fascinating to see pilots 'at play' Superb skills...
Yes,Yes. Very nice and much longer then all your other videos, which is great. Keep them nice and long the time.
Now that I can see Captain Gary can fly under that bridge…..I want him as my captain. Crazy he has to retire.!

Great video, so awesome that Gary got this sim session! (Lol, "I waited 25yrs for this" - Gary). Great landing.
Great stuff. I have to recommend the same flight to my sim instructor next time👍 have a great retirement Garry 🎉
Terrain call out alert. Pull up. Sink rate. Master caution alert. Bank alert. Stick shaker alert. This video is just like a Skardu approach captain!

Wait, how did you get to use a sim at 13..?

Not nearly as many buildings around the airport then, but you're right still.
Pull up, pull up Gary!
lol this is so cool, thanks for sharing.
Fair winds to you!!😀
You know he's a 747 captain because even at the very end he retracted the the speedbrake handle

Beautiful dead stick to landing
Waited 25 years to do what I do everyday on a sim.
Boys will be boys 😂 😂
Wow
Captain Obert is from 🇿🇼
Is it possible in real life? I cant believe it!
Tarcisio Alves you probably could but likely cause some structural damage😋
Haha..nice
