- How to Align a Car or Truck Gear Shift Indicator in Just a Few Minutes on a Ford, Mazda, Lincoln & Mercury. This is a very easy project that anyone can do. If your car gear shift indicator is off and not registering correctly... you can make that repair for free in just minutes.
Automatic transmissions on Ford, Mercury, and Mazda have this common problem. There is an adjusting wheel on the cable that adjusts your gear shift indicator needle... but typically that is not the problem. There is a plastic mounting bracket that holds the cable in place that breaks over time.
I will show you a very simple way to fix that with only a zip tie. You could remove the cable and glue the bracket or order a new bracket for around $10. But the method I will show you is Free and Easy to do in just minutes.
