    Brilliant! Thanks so much. This is such a more meaningful way to start than "Hello World" which always made me thing "yeah, and so what?" This shows how to make something happen that is cool. Well done!

    I really REALLY need this program so I can learn the language. I want to make a better website. The one I have currently has a lot of problems and isn't all that conventional. Plus, I need a new stylistic approach.

    I really love when your saying, " Hello World" shame on em. i agree that too. i want to learn programming, but the example that i get its always, "Hello World" so, its not gain my passion in learning.

    • @TheRealBrenny
      @TheRealBrenny 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      How long do you stick to a language? If you only get the hello world example and you think it's boring and just quit, then you never will learn anything?

      i'm bored easily with no interesting challenge. what is a program that programmer proud of?. maybe that trigger my passion. making CMS is a long whole process. i dont like it. i need a spark, like program steal banks accounts, yeah i like it.

    You are by far the best teacher I've found in Flash tutorials. Most people just give you a code and tell you to use it to do something, you actually explain what it does in this video so people can learn how to do things themselves. This is great. I hope your other videos are as good and I'll be checking them out soon.

  • @HypSandar

    hmm, it doesn't works for me, the ship wont "magically appear" at those coordinates

    are you using CS5 or lower version in any case?

    I wish there was an AS3 intro for people who already know how to code... It's just a lot nicer to have someone already familiar with coding explain little things they've learned instead of sifting through endless examples, and documentation!! +_+ oh well

    this does nothing to me.
    I had to create var for AC3 and then to use the moving code, but then I have two objects on stage, one standing still and other moving.
    this is how my code looks like
    import flash.events.Event;
    var hero:ship_b=new ship_b();
    addChild(hero);
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,shipgo);
    function shipgo(e:Event):void{
    hero.x++;

    }

    I am having a problem with AS3, whenever I add listeners on a different layer. They tend to not work at all. Even on the same layer. I am trying to do a simple listener to the MOUSE_MOVE which will execute a function that moves something around, rather then the ENTER_FRAME like he used in this tutorial...

    Well you don't really need the image of the plane. I just made a shape in flash and right clicked it and clicked "convert symbol" and type = "movie clip". That way you can make your own movie clip. Then change instance to ship_b and you should be able to get started. Hope that helped.

    Those aren't parameters, those are arguments, parameters are what you use when declaring a function. Arguments are used when you call a function. The function always has the same parameters but can be called with an indefinite number of arguments. Just sayin'

    Just so you know that *fucking* Hello World is just the basis to test and see if your program is running correctly. Most Programmers utilize this to make sure that their code setup is right and to test and make sure that they will get no errors or strange outcomes. It is also something that is very easy for the newbie, or beginner programmer. I mean would you prefer printing "Hello World" on the screen for a first project; or create a user database program.....with complex mathematics....

  • @IbraheemHabeeb
    @IbraheemHabeeb 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    right click on the frame and create motion tween and move the ship in other frame, looks easier than that,,, It's complicated... :(
    I used to work on ActionScript 2.0 which is a way easier, especially the well defined tools, such as goto and play, stop, FSCommand, etc.... they were well defines and automatically added in the correct order. Also, in FSCommand for example, you can select which command you want, such as show menu, fullscreen with true and false values...

    @samedelsten1 lol he's using Adobe Flash Professional (that's the name of MY program) but he's creating the movement with "Actionscripting" you have to get "Flash CS3" at least to follow his tutorial ALL of those programs could be found on Adobe's website if you're really interested you should start there but this tutorial is about coding so you should learn how to use "FLASH" before you start with the coding but i hope that helps and good luck

  • @MRNIIK
    @MRNIIK 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    The e is a temporary variable that represents the event so that you can refer to it inside of the shipgo function.
    You have to use a parameter like this in a function when you want to tie it to an event.. The letter e is simply a variable name, it means nothing and the Event is the data type of that variable.
    You might want to ask within the shipgo function whether e is an ENTER_FRAME style event for whatever reason, maybe you need to talk to it for something, so you'd ask about "e".

  • @geckoo9190
    @geckoo9190 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    By the way I invite anyone to try this code, I made my first animation with a circle so you may want to substitude that word for the name of your object
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,shipgo);
    function shipgo(e:Event):void
    {
    circle.width=circle.x;
    circle.height=circle.y;
    circle.x=mouseX;
    circle.y=mouseY;
    }

  • @NoTubeeable
    @NoTubeeable 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    it is a variable which is created instantly when the function is called. Every function declared in an event listener receives a value. You can give it any name you want "e" or "evt", or whatever you will think about. In this case you have to specify (yourvariable:Event); Event is a type of variable. Otherwise it will not work.

    Haha, this guy... Nice tut, I actually learned something in the first video... Thats... Rare in most tutorials for me...
    I (am also a programmer) found this to be like... Java's dummer brother, no disrespect... Just the way I see it...
    By the way, did you use Photoshop to make that ship or something else? Just curious

  • @VolcanicPenguin
    @VolcanicPenguin 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hehe true, I haven't thought of that. :9
    But I'm starting to learn AS3 now, and I don't think you have to learn all that shit about packages and classes. Just put functions like the one in this video on an empty layer inside a movieclip and it's like onClipEvent(enterFrame). ^^
    I'm still working on keypresses tho. :P

  • @Naadeneo
    @Naadeneo 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I could not get this to work.
    I watched the video twice and followed the instructions all the way

    is there something different about flash cs3
    that this doesn't work in?

    • @meshgen
      @meshgen 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe you started it with an as2 file not an as3 one
      or maybe you just forgot to give a instant name to the ship.
      or maybe you type the name not right

    one question from a developer: there is only 1 frame on the project as shown in the stage earlier. therefore logically the Event.EnterFrame should only trigger once. or is it a flash-thing where the event will always trigger 24 times per second even though there is no change of the frames?

  • @StigTube06
    @StigTube06 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @frm683600 If by stop animation you mean stop the movement, you would need an if statement (This may be wrong I dont write in AS3)
    If (mouseX< 300){ship_b.x=mouseX;}
    This would mean that if the cursor is over 300pts from the left, it would not execute the code

    you can just select a drawing tool (like paintbrush, pencil etc.) and draw a plane by your own. then select what you have drawd, right click on it and click convert to symbol. it should be a movie clip when your just starting to use flash.

  • @mskiara18

    BTW, a symbol has to be a movie clip or a button to be able to give the instance a name in the properties window. Dont you love those little tid bits that no one tells you and you pull your hair out for hours wondering why something isnt working?!?

    It's kinda overrated how every developer uses it. I'd actually prefer someone slamming their hands over the keys to "Hello World". At least "jhbegqihbjf hsrhb e" has a bit more variation than "hello world" does.

    This is the way every programmer should explain things, God damn all those code douche bags that think everyone knows actionscript for a fact. Keep it up man.

    Love the dollar example.
    Great job, it's clear! You are explaining every attribute you are making, they are rare in tutorial-land, so superawesome great job!

    I totally know what you mean.
    But with AS2 you won't be able to use the new things they put into flash, like the 3d stuff and being able to make iPhone apps.

    It's BS that adobe can make a AS3 to iPhone compiler, but not an AS2 to AS3... that's just them being mean.

    @ewanwii This depends on your version of Flash used to program AS3. Only Flash version CS4 onwards supports the z-axis property and true 3D positioning.
