My 2nd full season of watching F1. What a fantastic season it was and I can just remember the constant dreams of wanting to drive the FW18 as a 9 year old. Williams I owe you a great deal of gratitude for getting me addicted to F1 :)

I felt the same as i watched it as Murray.
The 96 season is still one of my favourites, after Damon and Williams's rough 94 & 95 seasons it was an absolute joy to watch.

Williams FW18 was a great car. Probably the best one of Williams' history. 12 wins and 12 poles, 175 points in 16 races
Front row starts for every race in 1996 for Damon. 9 all Williams front rows in 1996 for the team. 12 wins total, 8 for Damon, 4 for Jacques in his rookie season. Only two other men would win all season. Schumacher 3 times, and Panis in Monaco. I think I’m right in saying that this was the team’s most prolific season. What a car. And it’s so damn beautiful to boot.
The classic blue n white Rothmans era of Williams is my childhood watching F1.
Damon is an awesome nice guy.
Damon was my first motor racing hero - that blue and white Williams is so iconic. Amazing to see after all these years.
Damon was always my favorite F1 driver but I guess I'm a bit biased. I knew one of the F1 reporters at the time and he was able to get me a autographed picure of Damon. So Cool!
Looking for to seeing Villeneuve in a Williams in Montreal, in the future.
As an American, his Indy 500 win and Schumacher punt to win the championship, was memorable.
Former Indy 500 winner, Montoya, also a Williams driver, should have won the F1 championship too.
Both, honorary Americans in my book.
It's a shame, multi-CART champion, Zanardi, didn't find success at Williams. Loved him as well.

Fantastic to see Damon in the car which took him to the F1 World Championship in 1996. The car is beautiful and the beautiful V10 sound too. I use to watch him in that car 1996 and it was from a fantastic era. Fantastic memories 🙏😍

Fabulous seeing him driving his championship winning car. It does raise the unavoidable question - would he have won the 1996 title if Schumacher had stayed at Benneton instead of joining Ferrari?

Man that car was beauty and so was the Rothmans livery! I mean I do understand why tobacco sponsorship was banned, but man did they provide absolutely the BEST racing liveries of all time!

Great watch. Miss the sounds these cars produced, I actually think the mid to late 90s V10s sounded better than the last ones up to 05. They just sounded more melodic and less harsh than the last ones.
I agree. I also think the same about V8s. Schumacher's Benetton from 1992 and the mid-90s CART open wheelers sounded better than the 20,000+ rpm zippers from 2006.

It's amazing to think of it like a partnership, like KITT and Michael Knight. She (the FW18) won't age, but Damon will. It's so interesting to see them meet again. One has clearly aged and the other hasn't.

I wish Damon stayed in '97 as well, that Rothmans livery was absolutely gorgeous, I was so disappointed to see the Winfield red livery in '98.
What we have forgotten: This car is the most successful Williams ever had!!!...This masterpiece gained 12 Victories..! But it's a little bit in the shadow of the FW14...Don't know why...

One of my favorite Williams cars. In the 3.0L era these cars have the better engines. Didn't rev too high. But the whole car is too good, from design to the classic Rothmans colors.
How much better did the cars sound and look back then, I know today's cars are technical wonder's but I would much rather watch and listen to pre v6 hybrid era

I'd rather watch these 96 cars race today, than the engineering masterpiece no passion no sound machines of today. The 96 Williams was an amazing car, so it was pretty special to see Damon being out-qualified in the 96 Monaco GP by half a second with a much much worse ferrari.

It was the biggest mistake that FW kicked out Hill in 1997 and brought Frentzen into the team. Frentzen was the guy ruining team chemistry.

94 era pra ser o tetra do Senna, 95 penta, 96 o hexa, depois iria pra Ferrari em 97 e ficaria até 2001 e talvez ganharia mais um título por lá!
Impossivel. Damon Hill só disputou o título contra Schumacher por causa das punições (idiotas) aplicadas contra Schumacher, para tentar equilibrar o campeonato. Num Universo paralelo,em 1995, talvez disputasse o título, mas em 1996, talvez ele fosse para a Ferrari, e Schumacher para a Williams, onde com certeza seria campeão em 1996 e 1997. Agora, Senna não iria competir em 1997, 1998, 2000 e 2001, pelos simples facto de que não seria Ross Brown a desenhar aqueles carros, e sim John Barnard.
@@l.h.r-gamer8300 Senna tinha contrato de 3 anos com a Williams, e quanto a 94 o carro melhorou muito após Mônaco com FW16B, que seria a próxima corrida e sabemos como Senna era em Mônaco, provavelmente já iria começar a reagir, Schumacher era ótimo coloco ele abaixo apenas do Senna (dos que eu vi), mas era novo ainda e conforme o Senna fosse reagindo os erros iriam aparecer, as punições foram justas, mas com a melhora do FW16B Senna não iria precisar disso pra virar o campeonato, tenho certeza do que falo, quanto ao futuro é tudo muito difícil de saber, após 97 Senna poderia seguir o coração e ir pra Ferrari, ou quem sabe com a Mercedes na McLaren Ron Dennis poderia chamar ele novamente e Senna poderia balançar, Ron Dennis era muito apegado ao passado, tentou levar o Prost em 94,95, tentou o Mansell mesmo gordo em 95, cara o Senna era ambicioso, ele não iria largar a Williams depois das melhores, e os carro de 95, 96 e 97 da Williams eram superiores!

Roman Grosjean fez, sei lá como vou chamar, aquele desastre ferroviário em SPA 2012, e só foi banido de uma. E lembrar: Schumacher só foi desqualificado de SPA em 1994, por causa da prancha de madeira, que só passou a existir após a morte de Senna.
@@l.h.r-gamer8300 Um erro não justifica o outro, mas como eu disse com a Williams FW16B o Senna teria um carro estável nas mãos e com o melhor motor, a pressão no Schumacher seria muito grande, e ele iria cometer erros o que seria normal, 95 Schumacher só ganha o campeonato por o Hill era um piloto fraco, lógico que a Benneton tinha um ótimo carro com um ótimo motor, mas a Williams era muito mais carro e muito mais motor, mas Schumacher era fora de série e Hill era apenas um bom piloto!

@@danigonzalez4299 you have no idea how much this car made us dream, french car/F1 nerds! Of course they could re-launch these other legends as well, it would make sense. But Renault wants Alpine F1 to win in a near future so re-launching an iconic project from their glorious past with Williams would be a great strategic thing!
