“People don’t change! You’re Charlie Kane. You’ll always be Charlie Kane! Now Charlie Kane I can handle, but Charlie Kane with a newspaper is like a chimp with a machine gun!”
That growl at 0:25 is priceless. "Ah, Mr. Thatcher, would you please tell the Committee about the background concerning the allegations made by Mr. Kane in The Inquirer?" "Hrrrrrrrr!"
George Coulouris was so perfect as Thatcher, striking a fine balance between Thatcher the robber baron and Thatcher the former guardian of his ex-ward, Kane. You see more than just the "greedy capitalist" in Coulouris' performance, but also his fatherly concerns for Charlie whom Thatcher thinks has abandoned all sense of responsibility and custodianship of the Kane inheritance.
Technically, it ISN'T his screen opener because the elderly and dying Kane / Welles is at the very beginning of the film; however, given the nonlinear nature of the narrative, this scene marks the "opener" for "young Kane" in his prime.
Wow, a lot of camera and writing flexes in this scene. @1:15 that was very subtle camera work when he was in and out of the frame, and in focus the whole time.
'the trouble is you don't realize you're talking to two people' that phrase must have been the greatest thing! since the conception of idealism, or of humanites, or even that of the languages, or even sliced bread/Asian rice whatever! Omg! F! Mr. Thatcher's character F! warm-blooded animals.
@@CJ87317 President Trump does care about the little guy. I am a little guy that got a tax break. The liberals say the tax break is only for the wealthy; that that is not true. I was able to keep on another employee with that tax break. President Trump is a billionaire and did not need this job. He does care about us and what has happened to the control of this country. He wants to put the control back into the hands of the little guy.
I guarantee you I'm more of a little guy than you are. And no, he doesn't. The average person got a very slight tax break. Wealthy got HUGE tax breaks.
**JUST A THOUGHT** I wonder what "The Iron Lady" (Margaret Thatcher/Prime Minister of the UK) thought about the portrayal of her "distant cousin", Mr. Thatcher in the immortal film Citizen Kane. (Has anyone ever looked into this?)...lol; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Iron_Lady_(film)
Breaking the fourth wall was priceless! Almost like Oliver Hardy looking into the camera, saying "MMhh!"
Or Stan Laurel looking flustered!
Happy 80th Anniversary, Citizen Kane!
Such great dialogue in this. And to think Welles rewrote scenes on the set.

One of the many details of this film, Mr. Thatcher, played by George Coulouris, looks at the camera several times.
**HOORAY!!**
Orson Welles takes filmmaking to new heights, and the "4th Wall" instantly disappears! We miss you, Mr. Welles! RIP...

Charles Foster: sly, devious, manipulative, underhanded, a dirty fighter, exasperating and a total genius.
George Coulouris Great Actor - Amazing in "Nobody Lives Forever" and "Between Two Worlds" opposite John Garfield.
@:58 marks both Orson Welles' screen opener and his cinematic, onscreen debut.

Doesn't Orson Welles have the best introductions in his movies?
🤔 60 years... Not long enough...
If you had an evil sister named Brenda who locked you in the basement forever and ever, you'd be the Prisoner of Brenda...lol
Damn, did both Deadpool movies have this many 4th walls?
You provide the prose poems I will provide the war

The comparisons to Kane and Trump are uncanny
@@65g4 Except that Kane didn't declare bankruptcy every 30 seconds, in order to screw-over his vendors, like Trump did...(ROFL)
Kane also cared about the little guy even if he was also out for himself. Trump doesn't care about anyone but himself.
