    ERCOT Control Room
    Descriptive Transcript (English)
Voiceover: A power line above a suburban neighborhood, the ERCOT logo, followed by exterior shots of the ERCOT building, which has a flagpole, solar panels, trees, and flower beds.
Narrator: For more than 75 years, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, has provided the people of Texas with dependable, reliable electric services.
Voiceover: Shots of transmission lines, a generation unit with two structures in view, connected by roads. Next, a power line above a field of crops, powering the area.
Narrator: With 24 million consumers, over 46,000 miles of transmission lines, and more than 600 generation units, there are many moving parts to power the region.
Voiceover: Staff members at work in ERCOT’s control room, featuring an open plan layout of U-shaped desks, each with multiple computer monitors, all positioned to face a multi-screen video wall with charts, tables, video footage, and transmission and weather maps of Texas.
Narrator: To keep Texas running efficiently 24/7, ERCOT has implemented a state of the art control room that gives grid operators the ability to successfully manage 90% of the state's electrical grid.
Voiceover: Interview with Dan Woodfin, Vice President of System Operations at ERCOT. Then, footage of staff members seated at desks, focusing on their work.
Woodfin: We balance generation on the system with the consumers’ demand at every point in time. So on each shift, 24/7 we have nine folks in the control room to monitor the transmission grid, to monitor the generation that's being put into that grid, and to monitor the forecasted demand, and make sure that the grid stays reliable based on all of those factors.
Voiceover: Staff members collaborate or work independently in the control room.
Woodfin: There is a lot of information that flows into this control room. What we have changed over the last five years is designing new tools, new monitoring displays that get that information to the operators in a way that's actionable. That they can use it, that they know what they need to do. It has a lot of alarming features: green, yellow, orange, red type displays that will ratchet up as things become more pressing so that the operators can do their jobs better.
Voiceover: Individual monitors in the control room project closeup views of the video wall data.
Woodfin: We've put more focus on forecasting both wind and solar resources. We've added a second wind forecast, and then we've added two solar forecasts to be prepared for the growth of solar that is expected. The new Reliability Risk Desk, its primary focus is to look at things that are a little outside the ordinary. We normally operate the system for expected conditions and for unexpected things that could happen. But the Reliability Risk Desk goes beyond that, looking for things that are even more unexpected and try to maintain the reliability of the system, even in those conditions.
Voiceover: Staff members interact at computer stations, talk in the office hallway, or look up to analyze information presented on the video wall.
Woodfin: The promise of ERCOT is to be able to use the resources that are provided by the market to serve consumer demand in an efficient and reliable way. The control room is really central to providing that reliable and efficient generation, two loads for the 24 million Texans that are hooked up to the power system of ERCOT.
Voiceover: Panorama of the exterior ERCOT facility and two employees walking past a neon ERCOT sign in an office hallway. Then, power lines across a field in Texas, drone footage of a neighborhood, and the ERCOT logo and tagline, “Your Power. Our Promise.”
Narrator: With a state of the art facility, the latest forecasting and risk assessment tools and an innovative workforce, ERCOT is committed to providing Texas with a system that is reliable today and tomorrow and for years to come.
    ERCOT.
    Your power. Our promise.
