Diesel Dorris Donor Engine? Engine teardown / Horror show

- The Opel Rekord 2.1 Diesel (Dorris) needs another engine to remedy the massive oil consumption (or a rebuild)
I received this engine as a possible donor... lets find out if its any better?

I've seen Dorris piston surface pattern drawn on fences and walls, seems like those have some kind of cult following.
A bit sadistic to say but horror stories produce good stories. I am gutted with this! Looking forward to see how its goes, ultimately I know where to get hold of rebuit engines but increadibly costly
You just scored a nice table, clean it, a glass top and you are done. No more burning oil.

We All get old man, GM in USA years ago tried to convert their SBC into a diesel it was a FAILURE!!!!!! Agree this engine does not look good!!
Being as you're not experienced in engine rebuilds maybe this engine could be a sacrificial rebuild testbed/donor before working on Doris' real engine?
If you were stranded on the edge of the road somewhere, yep, one could run a 3-leg hone through it and throw it together and be amazed that it will probably consume about as much oil as diesel per 100km. But yep this engine needs pretty much "one of everything". Definitely salvageable though.
Just be careful as these old engines often had asbestos in the gasket and clutches.
Yeah, that is very bad. Never seen that big of a lip in a bore :D
Daft question, but woild the dual filters and odd smelling oil. Mean its been run on recycled "cooking oil"

Yeah, that engine needs a full rebuild, assuming the parts are available of course, and also assuming that they too wouldn't just wear out prematurely, the other option of course is an engine swap with some other manufacturer's engine, something long-lasting and well known for being able to reach silly high miles, like the ones in W123 mercedes cars... :P
A Doris rebuild is the way to go methinks.

why not Frankenstein the cood parts from both into something worthwhile?
It looks the same engine that was used in the Bedford CF/Opel Blitz?, they weren't the best of diesel engines, i fitted many in the Bedfords in the early 80's 40,000 miles (70,000 km?) & they needed replacing, there was a 2.0, 2.1 & 2.3 of these engines

@@SeasideGarage Where i worked we had 3 Bedford CF's with these engines as we couldn't buy Transit's as Ford were on strike, i can remember rebuilding many of these engines in the CF's & we were rebuilding them after about 40,000 miles, we had to lift the front of the van up, remove the front subframe & get the engine & box out, they cost the company a lot of money to keep them on the road
