Waylon was the real deal. Honest, blunt, tough as nails, but "the nicest guy I ever met out on the road" (according to Hank Jr.).
    Waylon was The Man.

My mother played "The Outlaws" album over and over and over when I was growing up- Willie, Waylon, Jessi Colter. To this day, this, along with Chris Stapleton they are the only country I can listen to. All other country music is crap.
And my mother always used to tell me "you have to be crazy- it keeps you from going insane."

Case in point the song "AIN'T THIS OUTLAW STUFF DONE GOT OUT OF HAND. Every word of the song truth he lived it most of his songs are like that ran with a bunch back in the day that came back years later and made a group called The highwayman went on tour 30 years after they ran together way before included Johnny Cash Willie Nelson Kris Kristofferson the original country outlaws they lived it The honky tonks traveling in a bus going on across the country and all the things that happened while they was doing it byand throw in the middle finger up to the country establishment the whole time they did it pure legends

This is my 1st videos of yours, new sub now. Interesting story Waylon has told during interviews: he had a huge coke habit. Back in the 80's when his youngest son, Shooter, was about 5 years old, he told his wife he'd quit for a month. After it had been a couple weeks, his son asked him to sit & color with him. He colored with Shooter for close to half an hour. His boy told him told him something like "Daddy you've never stayed still this long to play with me". He hollared to his wife "I'm done!". She was singing Hallelujah as she flushed his hidden stash down the toilet. Willie Nelson cut his braids off in support of his sobriety. Many blessings to you, Sir!

I grew up in Austin & dad loved Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash. They were considered Outlaw country, because they didn't follow the Nashville rules of country at the time. Willie moved away to Austin & they grew their hair long & smoked weed. Please listen to "Good hearted woman", "Momma's don't let your babies grow up to be Cowboys" & "Luckenbach, Texas". Outlaw County is really the best country. These guy's later joined up & became the Highwaymen for a couple of albums. But back in the 70's they all shared each others songs & recorded them & sang together, so only made since to do a few albums together as the Highwaymen.

@@DK-wr6qs Dude, I was SEVERAL years from being even a "twinkle" in my parent's eyes when Waylon released his first album. As a matter of fact, my parents were just YOUNG teenagers themselves when he released his first album!! PLUS, I had a very crappy association to Country music in my childhood, so I didn't want anything to do with it!
That being said, what I should've wrote was.... Waylon was way before my love for Country music began, so I'm not terribly into and or familiar with his catalogue...
Fortunately, and despite the bad memories I have that are tied to older Country music.... I fell in LOVE with it in the late 90's and never looked back!! It brings me great joy now!

Waylon's career actually had several different phases before inventing the sound of Outlaw Country. In the early sixties he recorded a few singles for the Trend label, then moved to L.A. when he landed a record contract for A & M Records in 1963. He made only one record for A & M, parting ways with the label due to pressures they were putting on him to come up with more pop-oriented material. By '65 he moved to Nashville and had a string of top 100 singles through the end of the sixties including, "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line", "Stop the World (And Let Me Off)", and "Walk On Out Of My Mind".

He was gonna play HIS music, and their wasn't a damn thing Nashville could do about it. Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, David Allan Coe, and others were part of the movement in varying degrees. If you look up Outlaw Country in the dictionary, you'll see Waylon Gat Damn Jennings face.

I got 3 songs that I can't decide which is my favorite, this is 1.I could bore you with Waylon facts,He is my favorite of all time.He was the first artist to fight for artistic control in Nashville after "The Nashville Sound"took control in the late 50'sthrough the early 70's,winning the right to to use his own producers, musicians and studios. He was part of the first platinum album out ofNashville,Wanted The Outlaws and the first Platinum solo album Ol'Waylon. He was never known as a prolific songwriter, but wrote many of his biggest hits, including this 1.His song Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit (Done Got Out Of Hand)is a true story about the night he got busted by the feds for a pound of cocaine, great song.I really admire him for his determination to get off drugs,by 83 he had a 1000$ a day drug habit. When he decided to quit he was asked if he was going to go to rehab,he replied"Why Betty Ford didn't get me on this crap, how she gonna get me off"and went cold turkey with just his wife and son's help.Anything he did I liked, but I would like to request Freedom To Stay, which I've never seen reacted to on TH-cam

My father and his many brothers were Northern Maine Badasses. Drinking, fighting, classic car racing, hell raising outlaws....Dukes of Hazard not tamed down for family television viewing.
I grew up with Waylon played regularly played in our house.
It was truly "Back in The Day".....to which Only GenX can Rightfully use that phrase.
