Being asked to leave over actually expelling was so common at my school, I think in the 14 years I was there about 8 kids I know were asked to leave (so it doesn't show as expulsion on your record) over actaully expelling them up front. I honestly prefer that method as it doesn't put an asterisk on your record. But yeah, I've always found that funny and only at aussie schools.
So glad I’m done with high school. And the thing about “telling/asking students to leave” is accurate as hell. Had a bunch of people in my year leave the school instead of being expelled because the school wanted to have a good rep or some bullshit like that.
I graduated in 2006 and my school boasted about their "100% graduation rate." At least six of my mates weren't going to graduate and the school just encouraged them to get apprenticeships and leave the school so they could maintain their "100% graduation rate."

An explanation for the expelling, but not expelling is: When you get expelled, it goes on your permanent record and so your university can see this and stuff. So to stop that coming back to prevent the kid from going to the university they want to go to, they ask the student to transfer schools and basically tell the parents that you either transferred schools or you will be expelled and the expulsion will go on your permanent record.
Great news This happens in private schools too but maybe at a little lesser of a degree A teacher even calmly said put it away when she saw a good vaping on her class and apparently she used to go to a public school
