    Hey Richard, thanks for the tour. I have a question, is there a way to tell the difference between a self pollinating and a sterile varieties? If you know how, would you consider making a video about it?
    I have a few varieties, but one of them won’t fruit no matter how many flowers there are, and it’s done that for years. I don’t know what any of them are called and last year I tried pollinating them but I didn’t cross pollinate them with the other variety’s, just the same plant 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @Wizradical
      @Wizradical 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try to guess what variety you have by looking at the needles, the shape of the lobes, length of the leaves, branching behavior and color of the plant (if you get a flower you can try to compare the pre-pollinated flowers, and post pollinated flowers). You have to match them to the most similar variety on these variables. If you have a cross between two varieties you will denote the similarities and guess that it is 50% H. Megalanthus and 50% American Graffiti. From there you can look up the fertility.

    Hi Richard very beautiful collection you have, I envy you. On asunta 4 I believe that tricia is the mother for asunta 5. they used asunta 4 as the father to pollinate tricia the mother, that's how asunta 5 came to be.

  • @xiaoli2142
    @xiaoli2142 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Richard, Does your Asunta 4 flower has trouble opening by itself? My Asunta 4 flower could not open fully. It needs help to open and the stigma seems sticking together also. After pollination, the fruits seem to have more frequent abortion than the other varieties. Does yours have the same problem? and how do you deal with the problem?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Xiao Li, Asunta 4 has been known to do this, even with mine. I lost 2 Asunta 4 flowers due to no signs of blooming or opening. When I noticed it was too late and I had try to pry it open to pollinate but they both aborted. My best guess is that this is a common unfortunate factor that happens with having the variety Asunta 4. My only thought around this would to be very observant on how many days it takes for the flower to bloom and and watch it like a hawk and pry it open to pollinate.
