Your tip at 2:28 of closing one eye to prevent the dominant eye problem is worth the whole video, IMHO. Thanks for that and a good video. I have learned something from every video on the Sharpmaker that I have watched. Sal recommends using the Sharpmaker below waist level so you are looking down on it and I have found that helps to train me on how to keep the blade perpendicular to the table. Still learning and think reprofiling on a cheap bench stone is more practical to make sure the bevel is under 40 degrees quickly. Thumbs up.
Very nice - a Sharpmaker video actually worth watching. Thank you brother.
nice video man i used my sharpmaker for the first time using your method because i was too lazy to watch the dvd and my spyderco tenacious got really sharp, didnt expect that, thx
Good suggestions! Thank you!
I sharpened the knife and than stropped on my jeans on my lap and it worked perfectly... actually better than anything :s.
nice watch...
Dusan Mihajlovic thanks
Good Tip thanks. But I Think I rounded the Tip when i was first using the Edge Pro clone to reprofile the edge. thanks again
Is the sharpmaker a good option to sharp a cold steel espada large (5.5)?
How does the Sharpmaker compare with the Lansky system?
I notice he makes many swipes on white rods, is it a good idea to get extra fine rods or just strop more?
Do you change your drawing technique for a knife with a belly like on say an Ontario Rat1?
Would you buy that sharpening system again or have you found something better for the money?
another question - was wondering if you ever used the WS Knife and Tool sharpener and if so what you thought of it? I have both now and started sharpening on that first, now I am practicing on the sharpmaker.
Wavester64 I have never had a WS Knife and Tool sharpener sorry
Can.you sharpen a.convex edge on this system ?
You must be Cuban American, your accent is from south Florida Cubans. So am I.
Daniel Gonzalez yes I’m from Miami funny I don’t feel like I have an accent. But I know I must lol
How about a carbide supersteel.
Like s110v or M4????
can you explain why you use the edge vs the flat side? nice video
Hello Josh,
From my experience and what I saw on the video for Sal the invented of the Sharp maker. The flat side is a lower grit / rougher stone and the flat side is a higher grit / finer stone. In theory there are 2 stone types but when you use the corners it's like 4 grits
Its recommended 4 step process. Meaning, you utilize both edge and flat side of a rod (2 types of rods+ 2 sharpening surface per rod= 4 step process).
But on a serrated knives, its recommended to use only the 3rd step of the process (the edge side surface of a ceramic rod, and not its flat side).
Are you from the part of the country where they say "Dontcha know?" and "There's a big snow stam comin?"
Austin B lol no I am from Miami might be my miami Cuban accent. We not have any big snow stams
you know that if you pull the knife the tip will rounden? sry for bad english
The diamond is for supersteels.
How do u clean the stones when your done sharpening?
Nick G Barkeeper's Friend and a non-abrasive sponge/scrubbing pad
Thanks bro!
Nick G the applications for a good
@@cameronshort524 big pencil eraser dry. Steel erases right off.
Hair popping sharp means you should be able to shave a five day beard with a nick or cut. Can you make a video of you shaving.
no one can see yo arm hairs bro
your rounding your tip off when sliding the knife blade off the stone.
Yes thanks I need to redo the video I was rushing and this would round the tip for sure if it slips off to many times
wud u recommend the spiderco sharpmaker , on a really , really , really , dull blade ( wot i mean is wud it sharpen a really dull blade ?? ) i bouht 1 of them " handy sharp " plastic things , and they r crap !!

The answer is not a simple yes or no. I would say if the knife has a inclusive edge ( total edge angle ) of 38° or under yes the sharpmaker would work using the 40° side. If you have an edge over 40 no don't get it. If you live I. The is send me the knife I will sharpen it for you if you like for free.
How do you sharpen the tip with this? (Not prevent tip from being rounded in first place).
I keep vertical by ensuring I cannot see the side of the blade
shakadoom
I have never seen anyone actually use the brass safety guards before.
Submariner? ;)
Yes submariner with date thanks

Hello Tad
I picked up this Rolex submariner 16610 pre ceramic bezel style 10 years ago before kids a wife and a mortgage. At the time it was $4500 not $7000 like today. The clasp is different in current models I believe and I don't know about the AR coding.
As for the knife it's a cheap one I just needed one to show how to use the sharp-maker. I do have more expensive knives on some other videos I have put up.
Thanks for the compliment on the video I have been meaning to redo it as on this one I rushed though it. As a result the knife slips off the stones quite a few times this can round the tip.
wrong direction on your leather, from the end to the front of your knife
4 now lol
Dude, get some paper to cut. You are running out of arm hair. Good video though.
KME Sharpener is 10 levels above this sharpener in quality and achieving a mirror razor edge.
I am between this system....and the KME......about 60 more bucks.....
You were using too much pressure and looking rushed the entire video. You also hand held the strop and are constantly changing angles between it and the blade. I wont mention the tip round off its been beat to death. Not a great tutorial lol
lal...this works only to maintain sharp knives. wont work on dull knives.....
