    This is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual docs Crossfit HQ puts out. HQ’s stuff is okay but getting tired due to the same filmmakers.
    Taking a page from Marvel Studio’s playbook and going with fresh talent and ideas seems to be the way to go.

    I'll say this again: I am 6'3 and therefore I can stay completely unbiased and say: Tall guys do _not_ have a disadvantage in Crossfit. It might seem like they do, and oftentimes I would like to argue they do, but the statistics don't lie. The average height of a games athlete as well as the standard deviation are very very close to that of the average population, at least in the countries where Crossfit is most popular.
    So can all you people just stop complaining smh some of you are a measly 6 foot whining that you're at a disadvantage. Well, take some freaking ownership. Maybe it's your defeatist mentality that keeps you from winning.

    • @pauliinaautio1170
      @pauliinaautio1170 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have to disagree with you. As a female who is the same height as the average male Games athlete only lighter I don't see anyone my height at the games. And I know for a fact that there's plenty of Crossfitters my height. My box has a team that is going to the Games for the second year in a row (won Regionals), and guess what? These athletes are almost all on the smaller side. Its a fact that being taller (and most likely heavier) gives you a disadvantage. I know I would never be even close to the average weight compared to female Games athletes.

    • @Hoehihoh
      @Hoehihoh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, a quick calculation by tall.life (tall.life/height-percentile-calculator-age-country/) shows only about 2.5 percent of adult American women are as tall (or taller) as you are (assuming you're about 5'9.5, based on your statements). That means that, statistically, only one in 40 games athletes would be as tall as you. And since there have probably been closer to 200-300 female games athletes and I don't know of any that were as tall as you, it may seem to you that you do have a point. But you're still wrong.
      Because a similar outlier to your case in the opposite direction would have to be shorter than 4'10.5 to belong even to the shortest 3 percent, and I'm almost certain there hasn't been anyone that short who made it to the games, either. Kristan Clever was famously short, and even she was 5'2.
      So what you're experiencing is a different phenomenon, namely that _extreme outliers_ have a smaller chance of being really successful. And that is because being an outlier makes it more likely you have a few severe weaknesses, something famously and justifiably punished by the games (including regionals and open) programming. Nevertheless, you can still be somewhat successful, for instance Jess Towl, who is about your height and qualified for regionals despite her poor strength (something heavier athletes should usually excel at).
      While being taller (and subsequently, heavier) is a natural disadvantage for most bodyweight movements, it is an advantage for strength, power output, and distance movements (like rope climbs, walking lunges, swimming, cycling, rowing, even pegboard). The fact that the specific team from your box is on the shorter side has very limited significance in the larger scheme of things, and perhaps the person that picks the team even has a bias to lean towards shorter athletes. Likely, however, it also plays a role that tall athletes in Crossfit tend to sell themselves short and make too many excuses to become really ambitious and successful.
      Like you do for women, I belong to the 2.5 tallest percent for men, and thankfully, in the sport of Crossfit, that doesn't give me too much of a disadvantage. Much more importantly, though, it doesn't make me any less fit or healthy, which is what Crossfit is really all about. So, cheer up, we have nothing to complain about.

    • @pauliinaautio1170
      @pauliinaautio1170 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think its quite funny you think I am complaining, I am definetely not. And why do you think I am American? There are plenty of people doing Crossfit outside of the U.S. I am Finnish, live in Norway and we are generally taller compared to many other nations. As far as the "person" who picks the teams, they are picked based on performance, so no person picks them. Which is why my point very much stands, shorter athletes are favored in Crossfit, although I absolutely do agree on the fact that taller and heavier athletes like myself do have advantages as well. Point is the advantages are larger towards shorter athletes, something Chris Spealler example has expressed quite a few times. Just my observation, and my opinion. It's completely fine to not agree on the topic :)

    • @Hoehihoh
      @Hoehihoh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, no, I wasn't trying to say that you in particular were complaining (although some of your statements could be considered complaints), just tall crossfitters in general. And I'm not assuming you're American either (as I'm from Switzerland anyways), it's just that the American height is pretty representative of the broad crossfitting population.
      And no, your point doesn't stand. Can you understand what I explained in my previous comment? Who picks your team was just a little side question, and I still think you're incorrect, although it is okay to disagree here.
      Interestingly enough, Chris Spealler said in an interview about his retirement (th-cam.com/video/akcc6DphLIg/w-d-xo.htmlm34s) that he feels he is now too short and light to stay in the sport. Not that that was the main reason why he quit, but he apparently agrees with me that really short people are at a disadvantage as well.

    • @3fs557
      @3fs557 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not the height, it's poor programming! let's include some different movements in the sport for example heightjump distancejump and so on....
