i dont know what it is but i really like how they put up their bike of the year list this year compared to last year.. Its more addicting to watch over and over again, the kind of video that motivates me to ride my bike.. Its like your catering to a wider audience than only to the serious MTB and Road viewers
+ilikewasabe Glad you like it! There's still much more to come from TBotY, and even a bit more on the road side.
Loved how you categorized everything on price ranges. Can i expect seing it all in more detail on the magazine? thanks :)
Great idea guys!
Cant wait for next top videos!
Chain stay protectors should be standard it's like manufacturers couldn't care less once they've sold it. Attention to detail, a little effort that makes a lot of difference to keeping your pride and joy looking sweet that bit longer.
Love the orange and black scheme, beautiful looking bike. But man, if it takes that kind of hit from chain slap after a test session I'm thinking I would really beat this thing up over time.
+BK-XC paint-jobs have never really been their strongpoint, but the frames underneath are solid. a neoprene wrap or some invis should keep it looking sweet though.
I love the plus size tyres. roll so easy and you still get heaps of grip.
I never considered the potential for head injury whilst facing a camera. Good idea . Hope someone was watching his back.
Damn! Looks like that chain stay got the shit beat out of it, quick!
Just so we're all clear, i did get the rear axle spacing wrong in the video - I'm very sorry!!
It is 157mm, not 148 Boost. It was a long day in front of the cameras!
Entonces cual es la de enduro la crsfty o la foxy
What is the intro song called?
I think all the new MTB tech is awesome expect gear boxes those are so stupid I hate em but all the wheel sizes new wireless shifters eh I like new tech but the standards are building up and I don't like that
err 148 no there 157 rear end bit other than that all good glad I got one but the RR+
+Colin Barlow Yep, you're correct, my apologies! I did 12 videos all in one big go, so if that's my only mistake (so far!) I'm a happy man! ;)
+Thomas Marvin all good man I really love my crafty it's a real beast !
well I wouldn't buy this bike based on that video, should a highly placed bike as chosen by well informed cycle journalists have so many flaws? I'm struggling to keep up with wheel/tyre sizes, and I can't see the benefits to the current crop of Fat Bikes/plus sized wheel type machines, and I'm cynical that this isn't just change for changes sake. It's a well produced video though.
+Dave L Hey Dave. At £2799 it's a fair bit cheaper than most in TBOTY (only 2 were cheaper in the top ten), so while spec is compromised a bit, it's not as bad as it could have been, had the Crafty cost as much as most in the test. Yep, it's a shame there's no dropper, but, to be honest, the rest of it's foibles are definitely liveable with.
Why it did so well is the pure speed the Crafty can carry, while still being very controlled. The geometry is excellent (Mondrakers have often done well in TBOTY thanks to this, in fact, the Foxy won in 2014), and if you've got the pressures right in the tyres, they offer acres of grip both for cornering and braking, meaning you're simply able to carry more speed.
The rest of the package is also sorted - frame quality is good, suspension is excellent and overall, we just thoroughly enjoyed riding the bike.
In terms of the whole 'plus' thing, its worth bearing in mind that they ride far more like a very grippy trail bike, than a lighter fat bike - the two aren't, in my eyes, comparable. Yes, it's another standard, but it's not one that is going to be the death knell for 'normal' bikes - it's simply another option which has its advantages, and no doubt, disadvantages. Plus bikes can ride amazingly on normal trails, so we couldn't say 'No' when Silverfish, the UK Mondraker distributor, decided to send one in.
Hope this helps explain our decision.
+Thomas Marvin thanks for the comprehensive reply, and yes it does she'd a bit more light on things. it's amazing isn't it that these days riders, myself included, think that 2700 quid is a reasonable price to pay for a bike, non riders will never understand it :D
+Dave L Anecdotally (at least from the bikes you see on the trails), many people are riding bikes of these prices and up. Fortunately, there are many brilliant bikes for a fair bit less these days. We base our TBOTY test on the information we get back from reader surveys, which suggests that this price range is what the majority are looking to spend on their next bike - handily, it's also a price range with some awesome bikes in, making it a heap of fun to test!
Our budget bike test will be coming in the summer, £500-£1500 - we're already excited for some of the developments we're expecting to see in these more budget orientated bikes...
Sorry but that is one damn ugly frame shape..I couldn't buy it based on that alone..
+Trevor Bohnsack hunchback of notre dame-esque
+AssGobbler5000 yes exactly...You have to pay for that thing? haha wow!
First
+Thomas Marvin Oh, Thomas. Really?
😎
What's the intro song??
