This demo version of Looking Glass is just fantastic and sounds similar to the album version, but with more prominent lead guitar and better acoustic guitar texture... Sounds so magical. Thanks for uploading!
Thanks for sharing this Tone, your pursuit of Lee/The La's, knows no bounds. I used to look constantly on The La's org, years ago. So much inspiring stuff. So glad you're still getting his stuff out there.👍
That's a mega book. I really need to get it. I'm making like a whole Gigography/Sessiongraphy list and I think that that book would make stuff less confusing
What freaks me out is they went into the studio for the first album in 87 before TSG was even written... in a perfect world, it would have been on the SECOND album...
@@ToneLa . Brilliant drummer Mo. I remember him saying Lee asked him to join after this but he declined. I've treasured that tape ever since and waited for them to pop up on one of the cds. This is the 1st time I've heard them anywhere else.
@@jonburrows2883 got everything from this era, currently going out to get lashed but if you want copies say the word. To me this stuff should be heard!
Many thanks Tone for posting all these , have been listening and enjoying these the last few years . Have you met Lee ? I for one I'm grateful to you for getting some of his lesser known music out there . Well done lad .
Love it. Wish that we ended up with this version of the album instead. Wouldnt have been as big but if they got dropped from whatever label they were on they could have pursued more of their music as they wanted to do it and not how the studio wanted it.
I fully blame the studio for dropping the album without The La's permission too. They could have waited instead they got greedy and dropped the album with no input from the band.
the version of Looking Glass on this demo, is superior to the one recorded later ..... Mavers was and is one outsitanding and sadly unknown genius of song writing and performance ! La, s Forever !
Is there a reliable timeline available out there of all these demos and studio sessions and when each was recorded? I’d love to see the timeline of what they tried and when, leading up to the Lillywhite sessions.
Everyone asks this. Been obsessed since I Was 18. Bought tapes off ebay for a tenner a go... traded... collected. Haven't stopped, but maybe I've got it all? Just obsession. And I put this online to make EVERYONE ELSE obsessed :)
@@ToneLa I’ve been completely obsessed for the past two years. Thank you for uploading these demo tapes, you’ve no idea how incredible it was hearing mindfield for the first time
was this done on one of those tascam 4 track tape recorders or in the studio? I know they recommended the album multiple times. The tape hasn't aged too well but the songs are great
Like gold dust this I’ve not heard these demos before made my day it has

wow. so clean and clear. great touches like the rhythm and reverb on “Callin’ All”. fantastic.
1986! So different than anything that was popular or on MTV at the time, and pre-dated Grunge by 4 or 5 years.

This version of Doldrum is so chilled out, don't know how to explain it but the vibe I get is like floating gently down a river.
Love it.
Sounds like JJ Cale, that Tulsa sound
@@TheeJamber the la's had a scouse cowboy americana vibe...outlaws
tex from alan partridge would of been the la's roadie
Wow, these demos are a revelation. They pretty much had everything nailed down from the start.
I Can't Sleep, before 'so' became 'sue'. :) precious stuff.

Got some boss videos you mate. Thanks for uploading all the boss La's content.
Lee could've released these just like this and it would've been a hit. This is all before he wrote There She Goes I guess?

Amazing, thanks for uploading 👌
The Mo and Cammy demo's!
Mainly Lee on a 4-track :)
@@ToneLa 4 of them definitely from the Attic with Mo on drums and Cammy on bass. Got the tape off Cammy after they did it
@@jonburrows2883 Ahh so that's who the drummer is on the Attic sessies! Nice one Jon! Cammy on bass, like the end, but right at the start!

Wonderful! How was this recorded? In a studio or is it just a home 4 track or even a single track?
4 tracks in a portastudio mostly I think. varies like

Thankyou for uploading...Is this the demo that Lee wanted to create in the studio but never could ???
Clean Prophet is very reminiscent of Rodriguez!
Sometimes I wonder where you get this stuff

Why couldn't they have just released them as they where
ask the business
