Fred, I quite agree with you that the music supplied in the show rooms very seldom is something that is of my taste or that I am familiar with. I have been going to hi-fi shows for over 30 years, and almost exclusively on the West coast in the USA, and never to one in Europe. The last couple of shows have had a lot of focus on vinyl, which to me is rather ridiculous, but I will not go into that here. Even so, I always bring about 18 CDs with me - a mix of classical, jazz and vocals. I have an outstanding system at home, so I take CDs I am quite familiar with, and each has been marked with which tracks to play. For the rooms that are vinyl only, I just briefly look at the equipment and then walk out, for I think they are not true audiofiles, but just riding the current wave to take advantage of the current fad. These last two shows that had a lot of emphasis on vinyl, and also has reel-reel tape decks, and were playing near master quality tapes. I think this is another dead end, and not due to the medium, which can be VERY good. The trouble is that they are using tapes recorded at 15 ips, and are only 2 track! No one who owns reel-reel decks from the past has this type of unit. We have 4 tracks systems, and usually top off at 7 1/2 ips, so we cannot play these 'new' near master tapes. I own a reel-reel tape deck (which has been refurbished and works great) that is a 4 track (non auto reverse) unit that was near pro quality and functionality. My Tandberg (40+ years old and was the last model they made) has almost the same frequency response at 3 3/4 ips as the tape deck used today running at 15 ips. But the music these tape decks played was terrific! But most show rooms do have CD players and are usually quite willing to let you play your own CDs. I have been to several rooms where everyone stopped and were in awe! This is sometimes because the music I picked is a natural for the speakers and the electronics used in the room. One example was playing my special CD with Nat King Cole singing 'Unforgettable'. The speakers were the German Mbls (omni directional) and the sound was amazing, and everyone in the large room thought so as well! Another instance that I recall was when I had them play Carmina Burana. Again, there were many requests, asking about the exact CD so they could get one. Bellissimo suono.
On that note, here are my two cents: I would like to listen to "Have You Seen Me?" (track 4) from the 1992 album "America Must Be Destroyed" by GWAR on these speakers. The track is a mixture of Jazz and Trash Metal with a nice, ample sound stage. The lyrics might be a bit crude and offensive, but getting past that it is still a fun musical track to listen to. Then, of course, there is "Forty Six & 2" (track 5) from the album "Ænima" (1996) by Tool (I know. I know. Tool is not considered Trash Metal) or "One" (track 5) from Metallica's "...And Justice for All" (1988). I have spoken!

Dean S I think the tough part is they are playing to 40 people not just one that would be the major diffeence I think in terms of the experience. It was huge scale sound, very fast and dynamic and I was at the back fighting to film past heads that kept moving so I didn't really get a good listen. Sacrifice I make in every room for the benefit of the video. People still complain

A decent hi end system would sound the same and people wont be able to discern the difference. The demo music source playing is specially recorded. Take them home and try it in your own system....
if you feel like this my advice would be to get out and go listen to more high end systems because there is a level some systems hit and there are levels beyond that they dont if that makes sense. The scale of sound this system delivers is way beyond what normal speakers can produce
Well mates, the speakers are phenomenal indeed. But the real star of this show is Naim~Audio. Also I'm a proud power of Rega~Research, South End On Sea. Thanks Roy Gandy...
@@pkdude5334 not so much from this video as I had shit recording equipment at the tims but in my more recent videos you can get a good idea of how the whole system was sounding in this room on this day - which is not just the speakers, your never hearing just the speakers. Guess what it gives you a better idea than none at all. But it puts into question for every recording your only ever hearing it as good as the playback system so recordings of speakers are no different really when you think about it
The real test is when they play classical music. Of course it has to be an excellent recording but that's how you can test sound imaging. In terms of price quality ratio, I'm certain that my system compares with the sound of the Focal but then again I prefer the sound of vintage speakers. They sound more natural and better suited to classical music.
Well, they sound better in real life, but like all Focal products, they lack dynamic in the high frequencies, Focal tweeters are not exceptional, I prefer those JBL, ALTEC, or E.V, compression pro tweeters, I am a professional musician, playing a few instruments, drums, on a focal system, seem to have smaller diameter cymbals, and the impact of each stoke seems compressed, need I say more?
Yes,although i'm sure they are good speakers, there's nearly always a little cheating going on! Unfortunately, the better the system, the more the imperfections of recordings shine through. This doesn't tend to impress in demo's,but it's the stark reality. The best systems are let down by the recordings ultimately,so there needs to be some careful selection of the one's that the manufacturers feel sound the best. It's a shame that it means the music quality can ultimately suffer. The Bill Withers version of ''Use Me'' is alot more soulful, but won't sound as pristine as the recording used in this demo.
Precisely. My elac ub5 can eat up these tracks and make me wanna dance, not getting that effect here. Not saying it's the speakers but I believe I hear some ringing in the highs I feel like on this simple rock song demonstration. I'm using my Sennheiser hd600 which have always been very honest sounding, though, perhaps slightly reserved in bass. Could be the recorder.
With so very few sources of music to chose from, I am surprised that Focal allowed this miserable excuse for music selection to be used to demonstrate their premier speaker system. What are they thinking?
I love how focal can reproduce such highs, mids, and bass with no loss all at once. I think bookshelf can be good but nothing reproduces the spectrum of sound like floor standing speakers.

Imagina isso tocando Luniz - I Got 5 On It ..................... Eita porra!!
Bright, fatiguing sound. Focal style.
Even if I was deaf , and I had the money I would buy these just to look at them . Beautiful design . Audio porn.
“Beautiful” is subjective. I know some people who would call these “ugly”.
@Throngdorr Mighty beautiful elf's slippers.
@@gwapster13me
Such beautiful speakers deserve a far better album than that first song from “music for the cloth-eared”
Quelle ambiance !!!
They sound just like my phone? That for 188k....
The scale of sound this system delivers is way beyond what normal speakers can produce
very nice
For once I'd like to see a demo of high end speakers where they don't play esoteric weird music.
you will find a few hundred in my channel
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Thank you! I will peruse and listen.
Well mates, the speakers are phenomenal indeed. But the real star of this show is Naim~Audio.
Also I'm a proud power of Rega~Research, South End On Sea. Thanks Roy Gandy...
Soy de argentina (tartagal -salta) cuanto valdria traerlo
Funny those speakers sound just like my phone speaker
maybe try listening on something better? Good headphones is about the best way to monitor my recordings
It's funny because he doesn't get your humour. 😂 😂
@@adamhamilton-smith578Thanks, i knew someone would come along and get it! Cheers :-)
@@pkdude5334 not so much from this video as I had shit recording equipment at the tims but in my more recent videos you can get a good idea of how the whole system was sounding in this room on this day - which is not just the speakers, your never hearing just the speakers. Guess what it gives you a better idea than none at all.
But it puts into question for every recording your only ever hearing it as good as the playback system so recordings of speakers are no different really when you think about it
Sony MDR V83D Best bass and all sound quality 👌 good price 👍 i have both brand product i go for sony
Sounds harsh and very bright!
do you speak English ? harsh is a negative word, it means it's an agressive sound
Because it's recorded on a shitty phone ...... 😴😴😴
I’m sure my iPad speakers are capturing what these sound like perfectly.
Do they capture the sound of anything perfectly, no
Bruh what the hell kind of response did you get 😂
I hate videos of audio shows as so many people are talking and not listening to the music.
Got to ask the question - why did you click to watch the video then... ?
Speakers are excellent but playlist is jst too boring😂🤣
As Usual :)
audiophile people just love percussion for some reason, I guess.
should have played Odessa show me
Yeah the first song is dogshit...
Charley Weinhardt or some Joe Bonamassa☺️
£199 on Ebay at the moment.
Can you send me the equipment by DHL?
Look amazing but i think they are to bright for me, amazing detail at the cost of low end and my ears.
I had rubbish recording equipment back when I made this video, that will be the why sound is not where it should be, especially bass
Decent
Sounds bad through my IPad I’m sure better in person, but if I have to comment,no sound achieved is worth the ridiculous price tag 🏷
👏👏👏👏👏👏
For y’all that don’t know, these speakers are like half a mill.
They cost 239.000 €.
Though with the NAIM setup, additional 150.000 €
Well, they sound better in real life, but like all Focal products, they lack dynamic in the high frequencies, Focal tweeters are not exceptional, I prefer those JBL, ALTEC, or E.V, compression pro tweeters, I am a professional musician, playing a few instruments, drums, on a focal system, seem to have smaller diameter cymbals, and the impact of each stoke seems compressed, need I say more?
Sehr schon.
Probably the best speakers on earth and they play for a demo crap music! WTF?
Czad naprawdę
Each unit is $229,000.00 before tax.!!
My sound system is better )
No, this is a pair price.
Its funny they always choose the songs that do actually sound good even on mid end speakers
What do you mean funny?? Obviously they aren't going to play shit music to demo $100k+ speakers. LOL
Would you expect them to play crappy recorded songs on 250k speakers?
When can we hear some Floyd or Simon Philips on a system like this?
With so very few sources of music to chose from, I am surprised that Focal allowed this miserable excuse for music selection to be used to demonstrate their premier speaker system. What are they thinking?
Note how sad no one seems to be tapping their feet to the music.
Naim sounds good
now why did I say that?
so this is a 230k speaker? lol
